  1. Sounds like a potential South West LOC meet to me ;o) Still not convinced - hope I'm proved wrong....
  2. just earnt yourself a nice £500 Anees ...How easy was that :winky: LOL Cheap car if they get it for that though....
  3. I find it good to summarise things sometimes - as points often get lost through the thread - so here we go; Old lady who lives in a village where people dont lock their doors - She doesnt do that because its safe around there She calls you (this old sweet lady) at nearly 11pm at night She knows places like Manchester are (in her opinion - not me casting aspersions) possible high risk - but because she lives in a safe area shes willing to hand over £500 to someone shes never seen, for a car she's never seen - and doesnt appear to have asked many questions about (service history etc?) - all to a person who lives near to Manchester - that "horrible" place she says is dodgy. (again - not my thoughts - I quite like the place) She agrees to meet you right by a bank - a supposed old lady trusts a complete stranger to stand over her whilst she takes the money out of her account and hands it over. She also offers you a lift to the station - Telling you the sob story about an accident and says "drive carefully on your way down". Hmmm..... Edit: I was writing this prior to your last comment Anees
  4. Like being cheap to mass produce and bucket loads of understeer? LOL :winky:
  5. Assume you mean for a car? If so, I have a Kenwood at home sitting doing nothing - Originally bought for the missus but never actually got round to fitting (current car is double DIN and just couldnt be bothered with the hassle - plus bought an iPod cable to go straight in the back of the OEM unit anyway. I'll have a check what model tonight and make sure still have all the bits - Live near Stafford.
  6. Get a can of tyre weld - Much easier than replacing a wheel by the roadside.....also (and feel free to correct me everyone) I dont believe its a legal requirement to have a spare in this country? Its just if you have, it needs to be legal (ie ok tread etc)
  7. Still sounds a tad iffy to me - but perhaps me being negative .....Would you send someone £500 that you didnt know for a car you havent seen thats located 100's miles away.....but hopefully all alright and wish it goes well - conveniently a sweet old woman - even adding the "drive carefully". One thing that should be checked is the origin of the £500 bank transfer - Could of course not be their account and "stolen" - In which case the bank would come after you for the money.... Have I always had this little confidence in human nature ??? Seriously, good luck and hope all goes well.
  8. In that case; Its either failure by KwikFit ("mechanical failure" as the insurance company put it) and he gets his money off Kwikfit or Its nothing to do with KwikFit and "non mechanical failure" and the insurance company need to fork out Cant have it both ways - Also, not sure how the insurance company could get away with that - ok, if you had fitted a mod (eg Turbo) and the car caught fire can understand - but general mechanical failure - surely quite a few accidents are caused by mechanical failure? If youre brakes faile and you hit a load of cars or a wall - they saying they wouldnt pay out then? Finally, I would have thought it was up to them to prove its mechanical failure
  9. To be fair - so far, KwikFit havent really been bad to your brother....they have provided him with a courtesy car and are obviously looking into it.....but from your account they havent actually said they are not going to pay anything or help in any way. True, they dont have the best of reputations - However, IMO you need to wait until they have provided a response before having a go or thinking about having to go through the courts.
  10. Yes they did - I did - I was simply saying whenever "I" buy any CD / DVD or software (on CD-ROM for example) I always make a copy and use that instead. I wasnt suggesting buying any software to fix the original error or indeed copy the CD/DVD because that would be a little stupid given the free stuff around that also circumvents any copy protection. DVDDecrypter and DVDShrink to name but 2.
  11. First thing I do with any DVD/CD/Software I buy - Straight in the PC and make a copy.....original goes back in its case and stored safely. That way, whenever the copy gets damaged, I just go and retrieve the original and make a new copy. With 2 young kids in the house it happens quite regularly ;)
  12. My gut feeling - somethings iffy about this - and I wouldnt take the risk. Most normal people are eager to ensure they know the address of where the car was purchased - to ensure all the ppwk matches up etc. Its the number one thing to consider when buying a car - so for her to be too eager to buy a car several hundred miles away that she hasnt seen and isnt exactly a special or rare car - doesnt make sense. Rather than pay you to deliver etc - would make more sense for her to come to come to you on the train and drive back....not the other way around. Best case - you sell the car to her - but its taken a good day of your time and the risk in driving all that way. Worst case - You get attacked, car nicked and you end up in a Hospital in Exeter. Its not worth it - someone locally will buy the car - think I'd be willing to wait - For a couple of hundred quid its just not worth the risk and effort.
  13. What about the "UP / WIRELESS" immediately after the "DOWN / WIRELESS" - Just not available in the US - possibly for local safety reasons?? But ok in the UK.
  14. Chris.....have also noticed my mail being tampered with just recently - Slits in the sides as if someone has checked whether a bank card in ......plus mail definitly not always getting to me - had a few c/c statements I've never received. So far, nothing of value taken - wonder if you are same sorting office as me?
  15. Hi, Welcome to LOC.... Can you descibe the noise a little more - Is it continual pitch as whatever speed you are at or does it change. How loud? Not just noisy tyres is it? One of the things in having such a quiet car is that you hear things you dont hear in other cars because their engine and other noises drown them out.
  16. Tried QuickPwn last week on my 3G phone..... - excellent piece of software - now Jailbroken and loads of free apps installed. Didnt unlock but I'm not fussed about that too much at the mo....If the new one unlocks as well then great news for people who want to though.
  17. Yes and no. Yes I am part 'exing it and no I didn't get a good price for it!!! £5100 which is rubbish but then it is an 05/05 base model with 4 previous owners and a few scuffs here and there. I could have got a few hundred pounds extra but I'm sick of trying and failing to sell privately. Also, What Car reckons that the S80 2.4D SE on an 07 plate should be £14025 at a dealer. Mine has the following additional options extra: electric sunroof, full leather, winter pack, upgraded premium stereo, heated seats metallic paint etc. With all the optional extras at the main dealer I paid £13331 for it which I think is exceptional value for money. All together it cost £32000 new and it's 14 months old and has lost £19000!!! Ps if anyone else is thinking of it, there's loads of these S80's around for around the £12800 mark for a 56 plate. So no, I didn't get a good price for my IS but I made up for it with a good price on the S80. Thats one hell of a lot of car for the money - glad I've not had to pay the depreciation on it from new.... Lovely car and can see why you've done it.....driven a few volvo's myself and have to say they are solid feeling comfy cars - you can drive for hours and still feel refreshed when you get out the other end. Always liked Volvos ever since my dad bought one years ago - 760 estate with the 2.3 Turbo Petrol - We used to call it the pigeon catcher and we surprised many a BMW/Merc driver - Only trouble with it was I thought they were ugly cars - but theyve definitely sorted that one out now......Good luck and I'm sure you'll enjoy.
  18. In the interests of closing off the post.... Garage had used the old gaskets - They've inspected today and determined thats where the air leak is (using aztec's suggested method by the sounds of it) So 3 new gaskets on order - (2 x lower manifold/cylinder head + 1 x T.B/Manifold) - due in Weds.....then I'll have my car back ;) saw 3 GS's on my short walk (~1 mile) between work and the garage
  19. Thanks....... not in my eyes and I definately wouldn't say mine resembles one. Tongue in Cheek comment - was taking the proverbial about an earlier thread on the forum - Seriously - Looks very nice and definitely not an old mans car ;)
  20. possibly an air lock in the system - another loc member recently solved his by raising front of car (ramp) started the car with filler cap off and topped up accordingly. I had same noise but was due to low coolant level- but as you've just had yours done that shouldn't be the reason.
