  1. IMHO electrics in most modern cars is an issue, no matter the marque other than Lexus who seem to focus on getting that right as much as the mechanics. I have heard the 300 is a poor mans Bentley, and assume just like Bentley after a bit of wear and rear the electrics will be the pain. Also I think the 300 looks like a proper pimps car, or TOWIE Taxi (but that is just my opinion)
  2. Totally agree, and worth a punt. Best of luck getting it sorted, and enjoy the drive.
  3. Good luck with proper investigation. I know from experience that everytime I hear a 'new' noise I start worrying what it might be, especially given my naff hearing (to many Black Sabbath and Status Quo concerts back in the 70s).
  4. I am using Maxxis on front, Nexen on rear (due to replace in 1500 miles). Nexen have worn really well, around 35K miles, only just had Maxxis On tyre noise, I think the issue if the cabin is quite, and the road isolation is not quite as good as with modern cars, and some road surfaces just make most tyres sound noisy. Did a 500 mile run down from Scotland yesterday, and the noisest section of motorway was from Twekesbury to Cheltenham, and i know from experience in a colleagues Golf that onthat section her car sounds okay but that makes me think this might be because the overall cabin noise a bit higher so it masks the difference on motorway surfaces. I do think Falkens were slightly better, but no longer made to fit LS.
  5. Looks nice, need to do something with mine, starting to look like a rats been lunching on it. I assume it makes for a much nicer feel when driving
  6. I assume that means you are going to really need the PWR boost to whip past lorries on single carriage ways having chanced your arm. Great for someone thinking if moving abroad to get away from our politicians and their total lack of running the country while arguing over (sorry for swearing), Brexit. Nice price ??
  7. Gordon Bennet, are they polished by the hands of a fair maiden sat in a pool of gold wearing goatskin gloves, or what😲
  8. Thanks for info, once I get back from Scotland trip next week, will get it sorted. Might also book car in with Osaka in Newport just to get them to have a good poke about and advise on other suspesion parts. Looking forward to nice steady run up to Rannoch for 5 days of Scottish Spring weather.
  9. I had a rear one go about 4 year ago, had just the one replaced, and no problems needing the other one done. It was my nearside that went, which tends to be the one that hits more potholes and sunken drain covers, so I guess it had more stress. When it went there was an almight bang, but at the time I did not notice, but was picked up on MOT.
  10. Just had car pass MOT (Brilliant). Car done 195K, but when I took it in I said to look at UCAs as I get a slight knock on speed humps and some road dips (not all the time) and what feels like a vibration, but is not a vibration, more a sense of road rumble. Mechanic says the control arms looking okay (which surprises me at this mileage). Mechanic thinks road rumble at around 40mph, is mainly tyres (could be right as this effect seems to have been there since new tyres 5 months back). However he did say anti-roll bars are looking a bit sad, and will need doing. Questions: Is it best to go for OEM anti-roll, or worth a punt on other makes and what sort of cost should I be looking at. My mechanic will use genuine when I insist, and usually he knows his stuff, as he sorted out my brakes, which no else seemed to manage. Tyres by the way are Nexen Maxxis, so if they are a problem, might move them to rear when I have to get new rears in next month or so, and see what happens. I know a few people have Nexen makes on their LS, anyone else ever had more road rumble than expected with Nexens, they are pretty hard wearing though, my current rear Nexen Blues have done around 35000 miles which is pretty amazing and still have about 3000 left in them. Any advice appreciated. Also to say - Had the sparks changed, and amazed at difference it makes, engine seems a little quiter and pulls even better, and 'odd' gear changes I have been getting seemed to have gone (mainly when negotiating steep downhill section on final run home).
  11. If you can get a MK4 in my view always a better bet. The only thing I liked about hte Mk3 of the 4 is the fog lights are better, other than that a 108,000 Mk4 will just be nicely run in, and in theory the suspension is another 50K to 80K off needing an over-haul.
  12. I have this Saris, but the one with three bike mounts. I have tow bar light fittings, so easy to mount a Halfords tail plate. I have carried bikes in daytime without the extra lights, but would be nervous about night time. I drove behind a Volvo V4 last year and in the fading light almost impossible to see when he was braking, indicating, so kept my distance. Also have a few bungees to secure the front wheel, and stop it from knocking bodywork.
  13. Is rock steady, as Nick says. The major exercise is getting the tie ropes sorted as they are rather long. Agree with the 3M tpae, otherswise you might chip the piant (like I did). Good to go at over 70mph, once fitted, and after 5 to 10 miles just check the straps. I assume you will have tail light plate mounted, as the rear clusters are pretty well hidden if if you mount the Saris arms as high as they will go.
  14. Kids and bikes do not go with an LS. I was lucky enough when I had my first LS to have a Passat Estate (great for bikes, horrible to drive). Now got a Saris Bones, but they only carry 3 bikes. Well maybe when the kids have grown up you can come back to the LS Best of luck and the journey to Sennen is always worth it, no matter the vehicle.
  15. Never hear of this variant, but clealy one or two around. Maybe the satnav has an American acent, and keeps telling you to drive to Iraq and invade or maybe suggests going to Home Depot and taking some fencing pales to the Mexican Border.
  16. I would be looking at Upper Control Arms and Drop links as the most likely major contributor, and then possible the transmission mount. I reckon my Control Arms have been causing vibration (mild-ish) at around 35-45mph for last couple of years, and they always pass the MOT. So next week in for it's MOT and have asked them to look at replacing UCA (possibly) drops links and see if that gets me back the smooth running. The one thing I have noticed in last 6 months is the vibration is less when tempature is around 4 to 7 degrees, so I assume that this is because the bushes are sort of the right stiffness to feel okay, but when they warm up then the bushes being warm are a little more pliable and they vibrate a little more readily. I know the cost of sorting is going to be a little steep, but worth it if I am aiming to keep the care for another 3 to 5 years. Still will make it the cheapest car I have owned. The joy of owning older cars😬
  17. I have never been in a 600, but I am pretty sure that if I drove one I would fall in love with it, not so much the toys, but just the luxury of it. And if I had the space would keep the 400, as though it is now quite an old design, but for the moment just going to stick with the 400.
  18. Check this link out, this is either number one or two First UK LS in 2014 review Looks pretty nice to me
  19. GDPR - being used by too many organisations (and no doubt countries) to be well over the top. I went to a Dr Surgery last week, needed to take a photo of their phone system and the person I was with started moving rubbish bins in front just in case my photo captured any details of Mrs Smith and her Lumbago. I appreciate that the Inter-web is the wild west (been using it since 1981) but GDPR was not meant to be used that way it is. Not sure if VPNs is a total answer and never investigated whether it is worth using TOR (The Onion Router) to get around petty restrictions. Any chance of copying the review as a PDF on this forum so at least we can look.
  20. This technology is what is built into modern lorry cabs to give the driver a softer ride, given the stiffness of the suspension of a 40 tonner. Given the state of our roads, the LS400 wouls till benefit from having this fitted to the seats, but I guess the LS400 would have to be heightened. Then it would look like a Peugeot Partner😲
  21. Adam, Do not beat yourself up, I have had wifes car with loose wheel nuts (done by a garage), and I almost did it myself a few years back (go distracted once I had dropped tyre on road), and being a bit paranoid checked my wheels after 10 miles to discover had not tightened up 3 of the nuts. So I now check then double check, and as I work a lot with electric at 240 volt, just get into the habit of being paranoid, as 240 volts tneds to pack you off to heaven pretty quickly. Your skills are fine as changing brakes though not difficult does need a level of cpability which sounds like you have.
  22. I do about 100 miles per week commuting (approx 12K per year for all driving), (400, not 430), never had LPG, not too keen on filling boot with LPG tank or losing spare wheel. I assume the citreon will be cheap to run until it starts to go wrong, where as 430 if looked after will be going for another decade or so. To me a no brainer, keep the LS, and just make sure you take it for a motorway burn very now and again to remind the car what it was built for.
  23. I would think this is the ball park price, makes swapping my 400 tempting, but gotta get the roof sorted on house, so no new motors for me just yet
  24. When that photo was taken it did look lovely, now it has a key scratch down one side, and a dent in rear near side pillar (tree strike), but it still looks great when washed and waxed. My previous Mk3 was silver, and that looked brilliant when waxed. I really wanted a bronze Mk4, but fell in love with the blue when I saw it.
