  1. I hope that rev speed isn't right. Are you sure he set up the equipment for a 6 cylinder engine?
  2. GS is about 8cm wider so may be difficult to get it to fit.
  3. Not much talk about it at the moment. I think all models will have a hybrid option - may use the 3.5l engine that is going into the new GS350 / IS350 (maybe). There is also talk of the new LS420 for mid 2006 and possibly something like an LS500. Should also be a new SC soon as that is being launched as a Lexus model in Japan soon and the car the existing model is based on isn't made any more (series II GS)
  4. being vvti or not has nothing to do with the valve seats. All Toyota engines require a flashlube.
  5. Yes I believe they come with a full tank now. Would have thought most salesmen would give you a full tank anyway (or at least half) as part of the deal.
  6. Not that many, most are because they are just modified . Three of the best benefits of a saloon are less noise, better security and better safety because the boot is sealed off.
  7. you DISLIKE the wood? what would you rather see? ← I agree with not having the wood. It's meant to be a modern car not an old Rover. May look okay with black wood but would rather see aluminium, CF or just the dashboard material. They messed up the series II RX by having wood and aluminium together without giving buyers the choice of just alumunium. Hopefully there will be a choice this time.
  8. Just looks like a cheap version of the new GS. Lost it's own identity.
  9. It would be a multichanger. The only specs are what the press release states so you know as much as the rest of us. Best thing about the new IS is they have stopped wasting time/money/interior space by putting in a cassette deck. MP3 quality is bad enough without making it even worse by using a cassette adaptor!
  10. It may be that the shape of the new IS doesn't catch as many stones as the old model but the same paint is used throughout the Lexus range - all water based and too soft.
  11. What does it do Colin? Is this why you're not supposed to tow an Auto for any distance? ← You shouldn't tow most autos because when the engine is off the fluid is not being pumped around the transmission. Putting it into N is not a bad but fluid is not going around as fast as it perhaps should which could cause temperatures to rise.
  12. wo! all those years I thought I was saving petrol and and engine wear ← When you come off the accelerator and the engine is revving over say 1300 rpm the ECU does a fuel cut - therefore zero fuel is being used. If you drop it out of gear the rpm goes to idle and fuel has to be used to keep the engine running. This fuel cut is why you sometimes feel a jolt when coming on/off the accelerator.
  13. different countries have different service schedules.
  14. don't do it, it is not good for the transmission. Also doing it on a manual uses more fuel than if you leave it in gear.
  15. but all the models have corroding wheels, even the latest wheels on the current IS still corrode. The only way I can see them fixing it is if Lexus GB source their own wheels from a European manufacturer and put them on the vehicles as they come into the country, like they do with the GS sport.
  16. They won't fix the paint and probably not the alloys.
  17. It's possible that dirt sitting at the bottom of the transmission can be mixed up and forced into the valve body. Also if the equipment isn't cleaned beforehand with T-IV you will get non-spec fluid in the box. As the UK doesn't have many auto transmissions there aren't many places that would have the equipment anyway.
  18. I like DVD shrink. Easy to remove bits you don't want (other languages etc) so you don't have to lower the picture quality too much to make your backup fit on a single layer disc.
  19. Is that price before shipping, import tax, VAT, work to pass the ESVA test etc?
  20. when you pull away slowly what rpm does the engine sit at? Also when stopped hold the brake pedal down hard and try to accelerate, at what rpm does the car pull away? (Don't do this for more that 5 seconds as it will overheat the transmission) Stall speed on the GS300 is around 2700 rpm.
  21. The Toyota fluid would not be made by them but an oil company or the gearbox manufacturer Aisin AW. Using anything else is at your own risk, it states in the owners manual not to use anything else. This isn't just because they want you to purchase their fluid, all other fluids/oil they give a spec that you can use - Toyota or not. I have heard of several people that have tried different fluids, including Mobil, and have had poor gearchange or complete gearbox failure as a result.
