  1. wo! all those years I thought I was saving petrol and and engine wear ← When you come off the accelerator and the engine is revving over say 1300 rpm the ECU does a fuel cut - therefore zero fuel is being used. If you drop it out of gear the rpm goes to idle and fuel has to be used to keep the engine running. This fuel cut is why you sometimes feel a jolt when coming on/off the accelerator.
  2. different countries have different service schedules.
  3. don't do it, it is not good for the transmission. Also doing it on a manual uses more fuel than if you leave it in gear.
  4. but all the models have corroding wheels, even the latest wheels on the current IS still corrode. The only way I can see them fixing it is if Lexus GB source their own wheels from a European manufacturer and put them on the vehicles as they come into the country, like they do with the GS sport.
  5. They won't fix the paint and probably not the alloys.
  6. It's possible that dirt sitting at the bottom of the transmission can be mixed up and forced into the valve body. Also if the equipment isn't cleaned beforehand with T-IV you will get non-spec fluid in the box. As the UK doesn't have many auto transmissions there aren't many places that would have the equipment anyway.
  7. I like DVD shrink. Easy to remove bits you don't want (other languages etc) so you don't have to lower the picture quality too much to make your backup fit on a single layer disc.
  8. Is that price before shipping, import tax, VAT, work to pass the ESVA test etc?
  9. when you pull away slowly what rpm does the engine sit at? Also when stopped hold the brake pedal down hard and try to accelerate, at what rpm does the car pull away? (Don't do this for more that 5 seconds as it will overheat the transmission) Stall speed on the GS300 is around 2700 rpm.
  10. The Toyota fluid would not be made by them but an oil company or the gearbox manufacturer Aisin AW. Using anything else is at your own risk, it states in the owners manual not to use anything else. This isn't just because they want you to purchase their fluid, all other fluids/oil they give a spec that you can use - Toyota or not. I have heard of several people that have tried different fluids, including Mobil, and have had poor gearchange or complete gearbox failure as a result.
  11. Recommended change interval on UK vehicles is 60k miles. I believe it is 100k miles in the US. I would stick with Iridium plugs, either Denos or NGK. Changing plugs is not an easy task on that engine so don't use cheaper plugs that need changing more frequently, it will be false economy.
  12. Could be a buckled wheel. Get the dealer to check the runout. Have you checked the tyre pressures?
  13. Nothing cheap about Speeding, products are retail price - just no delivery charge. Seems you can now get the full range of products in the UK - including bodyshop products. http://www.meguiars.co.uk/
  14. most swirls come when washing the car. When you wipe you pick up the dirt and then scratch it all over the paint work. You should rinse off the car first to remove some of the dirt and use a deep pile cloth/mitt so the dirt is drawn up into the pile rather than staying on the surface.
  15. Dealers in the US seem to suggest every 20-30k miles. I will probably do mine once a year, although I will do 2 or 3 this month to try and get most of the old fluid changed - don't want to risk having it flushed which would change all the fluid in one go.
  16. Don't put Bosch plugs in there. Either use the OEM Denso or NGK (part numbers in the owners manual) or the uprated Denso IK20s (buy them from ebay.com)
  17. looking at the state of my fluid I would say yes although I've only heard of one failure, one of our members in Ireland - although it was being used as a taxi.
  18. It will cover coolant and brake fluid change, even a spark plug change. One dealer said it wouldn't cover a cambelt change but the web site suggests it would.
  19. Don't think you can get discount on service plans http://www.lexus.co.uk/owning.php?page=prepaid
  20. not if you are going to add an intake or a supercharger in the near future.
  21. You may be able to fit a K&N cone filter to an induction pipe.
  22. Like in the US you have the choice of 2WD or 4WD
  23. I only counted 7 options, the US models always have more options than the UK.
