  1. I think the exhaust tail pipes are still listed by Lexus here in the UK (I enquired a few months ago) but at over £400 each side may explain why they haven't replaced it yet. I would demand it replaced at any purchase price from any dealer if I was a buyer. Maybe they have it on order? Another reason could be that they are a right pig to fit without taking the entire rear valance off as they are bolted to the back it) I faffed for hours in an attempt to just take the tail pipes off for a thorough clean (sad I know) but gave up in the end. But as a tip to anyone with an older ISF check the two bolts you can see are still there and tight as you don't want your tailpipes falling off. Im biased but white is clearly the best colour IMHO
  2. @Jgtcracer Well that's a relief due consideration is given. My biggest concern at work today is should I use a bar chart or a pie diagram in a presentation. Slightly less risk if I get it wrong Sit rep with 98,000 on my ISF the manifold is in rude health and long may that continue. Slightly tenuous although temperature related it did surprise me to see a number of cars at LeMans suffer from failures due to high engine bay temperatures cooking starter motors for instance. I would think they would have that covered, so to speak.
  3. Any photo's yet @B1RMA. I'm excited for you so don't hang around for some moody lighting lets see them in all the glory an iPhone can provide.
  4. I dont think I've ever seen a 2nd hand aftermarket exhaust for an ISF offered for sale to be honest. I did speak to Quicksliver earlier this year about an exhaust for my ISF and at present they don't do one, and are too busy with other stuff to develop one. Shame as I would be in the market for one.
  5. I like it and as you say @Comedian not OTT at all. I have similar on my ISF and to untrained eye could easily be factory fit.
  6. @TwellsieThey are cheap aftermarket items I found on ebay which luckily the Lexus emblem wasn't moulded but clipped into the background. It wasn't clear it did this but I took a punt and it conveniently unclipped for me to have the centre pained at the same time as the wheels and I pained the emblem. Im rather please with them to be honest. @B1RMA Good should cheers. I have seen the OEM spec nuts in black on ebay USA which works out about £35 shipped but will try Prestige. Looking forward to seeing your wheels As an aside is anyone interested if I end up buying from the good old USA. there is a small Thanks @Britprius @steve2006and @PRT68 for the info on the cover caps. They might just do.
  7. Cheers Wayne, I have seen these and others similar but they have a tapered seat and not a flat seat like is needed for ISF rims. I haven't managed to find suitable aftermarket nuts with a flat seat although I bet they exist somewhere. I think OEM from Lexus are only available in chrome and are about £50.
  8. Well I finally got round to sorting my scabby wheels out having decided to go bronze a while ago. Subtly different in a bespoke matte bronze and not the shiny end of the bronze spectrum some might favour but I like them. But anyone found any decent replacement black wheel nuts as I gave my old ones a quick flash over with a rattle can by way of experiment and its already coming off. Photography not being a skill I'm blessed with but you get the idea.
  9. Watched these some time ago and thought why would you bother as the cost must be massive. (unless its his and he wasn't insured?) Add to that his rattle cans and hacksaw solutions glad he recorded it so everyone knows not to buy it.
  10. Agree with @Comedian but this is a Failing Grayling plan so doubtful it would ever get off the ground. and don't start me how many years not to leave the EU yet. I wouldn't trust this government to run a bath, and 2 more months now to decide who becomes chief fiddler of Rome while nothing else gets done. Ahhhhh. On the other hand I used to feel sorry for my neighbours when I used to arrive home in the early hours from my girlfriends in my TVR and reverse it up the drive. Ah happy days. Antisocial noise pest, I haven't changed then.
  11. Yep Paul @PRT68 that's where mine was corroded, and very corroded too. Strange as the rest of the underside of the car is in very good condition. I could have had the car recovered from Lexus Derby to somewhere else and had them piece in a repair up behind the arch liner for a fraction of the price but is done now. In engineering terms an extra joint would be fine but feels like bodging up your brakes so I have no regrets I went with replacing both pipes.
  12. The detailer guy suggested it was up around 320bhp. Just about 100 less than the ISF we giggled. All the same.......All that in the front of a MK2 Escort !!! WoW and double WOW.
  13. I dropped my ISF into ATD Detailing in Derby for some pampering while I was away on holiday last week and this little beauty was nearly ready for collection. Should bring a smile to any Petrolhead so sharing it with you all. Is a Chevrolet 5.7 ltr Small block V8 LS1 motor. In a Mk 2 Escort !! Major bulkhead and transmission metal work to fit it in mind you. And still on teeny tiny 13" wheels and brakes. Didn't get chance to meet the owner but WOW I bet is a challenge to handle Got to love it though haven't you.
  14. I share you pain @DarISF as it was me who just had my rear brake lines replaced by LEXUS for the same £1300. Priced to me at 10hrs labour (and I believe it actually took 13 ) I sucked it up knowing it says Lexus on by bill as provenance for the next owner. While its not beyond a quality non franchise operation to remove the exhaust, rear diff, prop shaft, petrol tank and numerous heat shields and cover plates and put it all back together in the right order its not a job for the faint heated. As for the discs I would agree that's not a job for the Lexus biscuit fund and I would save the labour and do it myself as a job any competent DIY car man could do on a Saturday morning (I enjoy fixing stuff). Or any garage you trust in. And the exhaust should be an easy fix but the cost of the exhaust is the pain. It must all be put down to the joys of buying an old (but very nice) second had car. Agree with Paul @PRT68 though with a preventative greasing, Oooo Errr, but steady with the wire brush.
  15. Interesting as I wondered about finding out how many in my colour. Might it actually be based on cars registered in the UK, rather than sold, and the 2016 ISF was a later import and registered in the UK in 2016 ?? That aside I'm prepared to believe I have one of only 8 2009 White ISF on the road. In fact one of 7 as one was written off earlier this year. My IS300 Sportcross in Grey (which is a more blue grey to be honest) is seemingly 1 or only 2. and explains why I have never seen another one in the same colour. Must remember that for the add when I sell it.
  16. I toyed with the idea of buying a late model ISF but went 2009 and am very very happy with it and will sit on the £10k difference for when I trade up. More important to get a good one than a newer one I think. I guess the low miles dealer one has a warranty which is a plus although some quality cars on here being offered for sale now.
  17. As has been said you buy the right to use the registration and I found Plates4Less cheaper on plates offered by multiple dealers. You require your documents to buy the legal plates themselves to the correct legal spec at reputable outlets or Halfords if you have one nearer. If you want your plates that vary in any ie with spacing differences, logo's or other such styling you need to buy " Show Plates" available from anywhere on ebay which are not legal for road use and it will say that somewhere in the small print. I chose to risk a life of criminality and go with this. Of course for the MOT I changed them and if Mr Plod ever has the occasion to speak to me "I have the real ones here officer. I just forgot to swap them back when I left the show. I will swap them now" is my plan. To note registration recognition technology at car parks reads my plate V8 000 GB as V800 OGB anyway and prints V800 OGB on the ticket. I suspect I'm not fooling police ANPR either so why its still illegal who knows. 6 months on the car and Im still on the run from the law with no trouble from Mr Pod yet
  18. Step away from the battery Wayne, Step away! No really, Step Away.
  19. Well my plan is to keep my ISF for 18 months or so and then change it for an RCF and when I decide I'm too old to hoon around in 2 door coupe (or my lad is too big get in the back) I could get a GSF. So why not hatch a plan to have all 3
  20. Nice one, Bet you have been pounding the roads of Yorkshire since then with a broader grin than usual. As for a second hand gearbox? I think the one from the ISF written off a couple months ago was being offered for £3K. but go find another second hand one somewhere if you needed one.
  21. @Shahpor you are surprised I was gutted. The service team weren't confident from the off on a 10 year old brake pipe and I let them make the approach (I was in shock). So yes @giorgoXXI normal wear / corrosion, and yes the Lexus Extended Warranty but I'm considering another approach as of course there could be a conflict of interest? or at best they are not as interested as I am in £1300 10 hours labour according to the Lexus service bible (It took the technician about 30 mins to work it out) so £95 / hr then. It's what I was quoted at the start although I gather from the technician who did it that it actually took nearer 13 hrs !! Fair enough they didn't amend the bill. Good points @doog442 and @PRT68 I did ask the question if they could just piece out the first 6 inches" (which I might have done on a daily shopper car) and was politely told there were no straight bits long enough to do so rear of the diff so wouldn't be any saving. And they did ask if I wanted to trailer it somewhere else but in for a penny in for a pound. I bought the car with full Lexus service history and warranty in place and will sell it similar having wanted for nothing. I don't mind buying 50% off pads but wasn't compromising on this. Yep @lotusdave and @Texas I had both sides done. The nearside line is a little longer hence the slightly higher price. I disconnected the calliper / flexi at the calliper end so hadn't tinkered with the connection the other end. However I had dosed the union at the other end, as I had with all the other fixings with WD 40. If that's was dislodged any rusted steel to the point it blew out so be it. @Malc its the fun you have getting to 30mph that makes the difference. A visceral experience tingling all the senses. Hybrid / silent electric wizardry ? No Thanks !!
  22. I consider my 2009 ISF with 97k miles in very good condition (as do Lexus Derby) but here's a tale for all you early plate cars to be mindful of. Before the MOT I replaced my brake pads all round with Brembo pads from Euro Car Parts. Said to be not to be the same spec friction material as Brembo pads from Lexus ? but should be quite sufficient for me and Less than £80 all in which I was happy with. However one of the rear pad retaining pins was seized and no amount of penetrating oil (for nearly a week) and persuading would shift it so I had to take the calliper off to sort that out. On the bench it was much easier to safely knock the pin out although it was bent by the time it gave up the struggle. £46 for a new one pin (2 in fact and the spring clip which I didn't need). I took the opportunity to dose any nut and bolt within reach with WD40 as it seemed a good idea. Incidentally I measured the disks and the fronts were 28.6 mm and the rears 26.5mm, both still within the tolerance as specified by Brembo (28mm and 26mm respectively, I gather they start at 30mm and 28mm). Conclusion: A good job well done. Took longer than it should but would have cost a lot more if I had Lexus do it. Maybe do the disks next year. The MOT test A short 3 mile, 30mph drive (its the law) into town and the good news at Lexus Derby was the confirmation the test itself was free as part of the extended warranty. My frothy coffee and courtesy biscuit enjoyment was ruined however with the news the car failed. The look on Oliver's face told the storey, I think she had already worked out the bill). Complete brake failure, pedal to the floor during the brake test. My first though was "that could be expensive" but quickly turned to "Oh **** what if that happened while I was driving at speed" By the time I was in the workshop looking at the offending item I was grateful I was having the conversation there rather than being up against the back of a bus. On reflection I think I was lucky. The Details The off side steel brake line had burst just above the union where it joins the flexi, which connects to the calliper. The first 5cm are unprotected from the poly coating which covers the rest of the line. I did notice when I did the pads this was corroded but not massively so. Anyway the line disappears up behind the rear arch liner to who knows where ! Well I now know it goes all the way to the front of the car in one piece and needed them to have the car for a week. Yikes. Result was a total rear end dismantling. Both arch liners off, Cat back exhaust off, back axle off, prop shaft off, fuel tank out, numerous heat shields and covers off. Sadly I don't have a photo but I'm told it looked a picture. We all agreed this would write off a 10 year old bog standard model. Lucky for me its an ISF then. I was pleased to hear from the technician that everything came to bits very easily with nothing seized and the underside of the car is as solid as every. Well that's good news then. The Cost and by the way the warranty company said No. Doh. MOT Free OS Brake Pike £67.39 NS Brake Pipe £75.36 Brake Fluid £9.31 Labour £950 VAT £220 It not happening at high speed with me driving Priceless! A £1322.47 investment in my safety is the way to look at it. And of course good for another 10 years. The lesson and the point to take the time to tell the storey. Proactively check how rusty your rear brake pipes are if you have an older ISF, or any IS and put a few quid to one side if you ought to change them. But most importantly Stay Safe.
  23. Just had my MOT at Lexus Derby and got an excellent customer service experience, no sweets on my passenger seat though, although they delivered her back home to me as I couldn't get back into town and I was impressed with that. Its good to see so many getting such great comments. The details of the MOT failure are another storey for another time mind you!
  24. Thanks @Cezar B that's another reason to justify my future step up to an RCF. I have seen 30 mpg and 12 mpg on my ISF and stopped looking after that as 12 was closer to the norm. My man maths however equates this to a high 20's average which covers conversation within earshot of the wife.
