Mk4 LS400

Hi there :)

I've decided to make a topic so you guys can see the changes I'll be making and updating to my mk4 LS400 over the coming months. I haven't done much and because it's such a good example I don't plan on going totally crazy on it like I first envisioned. I mainly post from my mobile so each new set of pictures will probably be a new post to this thread in itself.

If you have any suggestions then please be my guest :)

Thanks for reading and here's a few pictures of the day I first got it.ade114eb04df06e61f0d2d5b439921ce.jpg7e6a10bac1eb9a4dc2a81dc7d674aea5.jpg425dd0cdcaae0d4e4ff62fc4d7c50212.jpgcf9b512093d41569139a1b1b8f482793.jpg5dbfe6edf5b9ef60560c125c2595da43.jpg17776826c86ff9c11c6f649c0eecf8f0.jpg920a87e9af260cab12920c88f3faf4f2.jpg

Have the engine bay a good clean the other day as it was dire. The pictures don't do it as much justice as I'd hoped but you can see there difference! me being a bit " old school " I rather like the unmolested touch :winkiss:

Lexus spent billions designing these cars and for that reason alone they are near ( or really are ) perfect at inception and perform at optimum being unmolested I guess

I am sure others on here with the Mk4 will have differing views and suggestions ..............  best wishes with whatever you decide

Hi Malc,

Whilst I'm all for untouched examples I also see a car as something which can be personalised in the right way.

I'm not going for anything that can't be undone such as flaring arches or drilling holes for daft wings (Or anything similar to that army camo one that was posted the other week! Lol) or crazy camber or anything of that nature

I would only be doing things that can be reversed or are practical. As an example the next thing I'm doing is changing those very orange side indicators to a clear lens just to make it a bit more modern. Whilst I love my LS there are a few areas that could definitely do with updating :)

My LS400 is exactly the same colour spec as your, I love it. I am for keeping these cars as bog standard with the exception of LPG conversion especially to try and keep the value in the car. Standard models will always sell easier than moded cars, but I am old.

Anything that I do to the car wouldn't be permanent as I'm aware it makes reselling a heck of a lot easier and also retains value. After modding my celica for a few years I've returned it back to standard and she is now worth more and made a small fortune off selling various parts, so I'm quite happy to mod within certain limitations :)

As for the milage the LS has done a little over 97k, not bad for a 90s cruiser!

I've updated those yolky side indicators for some clear ones that tidy up the sides much better :)

I see you've got a separate transmission cooler for towing.  A good sign, it means someone bothered!
Yes in the original invoice there Is a towing pack in there! Came with the towbar, hook and the cooler. So it should have all been dome by Lexus when new :)

Mines the same year and colour as yours and I must admit I didn't know it had Amber side indicators [emoji3]. The only mod I've made was to replace the all leather gear shift with the wood/leather one.
I didn't know there was a wood/leather one. Think I'll leave mine on for a bit I don't know what I'd replace it with if given the choice lol

A small mod but still a mod, smaller plate up front :)

Got rid of that plate surround and trimmed the plate to fit in the original recess. Will eventually get it fully smoothed off when I can afford some paint [emoji16]2b4ddfe0eb863fbbfcc6062d6cede757.jpg

Looks good, I like it!
Thank you :)

Whilst claybarring the car this week I've realised the rear bumper has been sprayed at some point (there are some very small runs) and also I feel ashamed it's took me some time to notice but the rear bumper and front bumper have been matched to the top half of the car. So my thoughts now may be to monochrome the whole car and go green all over. But then doing that I may aswell change the colour for the cost involved, so a bit stuck on choices now

So over the past few days I've still been tinkering here and there. I replaced all the interior lights with led's. Unfortunately my camera on my phone had a cracked lens so have took a more recent picture where you can see the difference, you can see the original old warm style bulbs. I heard about someone who replaced these with LED ones and it blew some form of lighting ecu, but not heard about anyone having issues with LED lights elsewhere. Can anyone advise on this? :)

I have also removed the old rear plate which was stuck on with god only knows What, it really didn't want to come off. With it off I can now see all the holes drilled for aftermarket things in the past and also holes to fit number plates, which have now very nicely rusted and starting to eat under the paint, so it's somewhere else that's going to need a makeover [emoji102]

Can also see the LED number plate lights in effect [emoji6]7fb5dce3d0b62c6a365d0097a9e3a6be.jpg653a541a17d6d18d19274c742b661b19.jpg1610e9c802616511f869edd54023056e.jpg1d0012c711963c8872f3a0a5eb8e551d.jpga9a5fb96d756758fc670ecac8f608602.jpg

So a bit of time has passed since my last post but it doesn't mean I haven't been busy!

Found it difficult to source a ucf20 plain grille over here so decided to make one untill I can get hold of a proper one! Not an amazing job but definitely not bad for a first attempt and a home made job :)

Got some more mods coming over the next few weeks so keep an eye on this thread [emoji6]

Did you do the tints yourself?  I'm told the back window is a pig to do.
I didn't No, I've heard the whole car is a hard job but it was done at a good price and I've no complaints so far. The tints are warranted until I sell the car aswell which is great :)

Finally got round to adding some tints to the car, it's dark but it's to my taste. I'm old and as my son is always pointing out to me that it's different today and because of that I don't know anything. I have exactly the same colour LS as yours and I really love it but tints? they just make it look cheap.  It's just my opinion.
