This is my 1st ever Japanese car previous car was a five year nightmare with a money pit Audi (bought because reliability belief) lost 1 litre of Oil every 650 miles and lost about 20k in total in issues with it mainly engine and suspension repairs Audi A4 2.0tfsi b7 Quattro. So this time I wanted four doors, speed and reliability I knew I wanted a Toyota and this 450h was the only one that came up. So I found the only low mileage one on auto trader At the time 53k 2012 drove up a month later and bought it without hesitation. Just spent £488 fixing thing the previous owners had broken or neglected at hybrid specialist WEST FIELD MOTORS
Unit 8 Westfield Cl, Rawreth Industrial Estate, Rayleigh SS6 9RL. they did a great job fixing all the broken stuff. I’m loving the car still trying to get mainly used to roundabouts this car Is bigger and a lot heavier then my A4 so braking and to slow it down is a lot different then I’m used to. Also in the Blackwell tunnel I could take my Audi going in right lane towards Startford easy but it’s a tight squeeze in the 450h so I stay in the left lane only now.

West field motors also sorted out the annoying Faulty tire pressure sensor Drivers rear tire that was stuck on the dashboard.

my next goal is to do a £520 full service with Lexus. Bought my car without a car jack so need a car jack. I need to find out what the jack points look like under the car and where’s the correct place to jack up for future reference. Lexus have quoted me a three year service plan of £189 deposit and £39 per month payments after that which seems reasonable.

the previous owner installed a Expensive apple car play kit and I found it hard to use, and simply no advantage to use. I have tons of my music on a 64gig usb sandisk card (max you should use) and I have a 6200 tomtom. for years I heard car reviewers going crazy over apple car play and wanting in their cars it was one of the things attracting me to buying the car but now I have it I find it useless really.

The last major issues I have to deal with is. When I drive off from park the doors do not auto lock. I checked the car settings millions of times no setting to change this I’ve booked in with Lexus in a few months to have a look at it as I’m told it must be done on a computer the Lexus mecanic said it should be standard to lock after 20mph. I secretly fear the previous owners have meddled with the cars computers messing it up some how. As the 1st time I took it to Lexus they said “not enough time to sort it out the computer kept throwing me out” .

I predict I’ll need new tires in maybe 6 months time. So doing my research now.

Hi I’m struggling to find out if you do my cars tire sizes for a Lexus 450h gs

Rainsport 5 I want.

Front 235/40 rear 265/35 both 19 inch

ideally the mitchlin ps4 would have been my choose but their £900 for four.

rainsport 5 I have my eye on for now at a more reasonable £600+ price range. Unless someone knows a better tire for not much more?

im told because rear wheel steering they will run out quicker?

on my previous 2.0tfsi awd Quattro I changed the fronts every two years and Rears every four years. I only buy brand new tires.

No not really. They don't move that much and if anything probably aid longevity as the rear wheels will better follow the fronts. Keep an eye on inner tyre wear, they can wear there due to the geometry.

I read that AUTO LOCKING was discontinued after Gen 3. You have Gen 4  I believe?

I believe this is not a possible option on Uk spec GS models.

I wasn't aware any Gen 3 model had it. Mine certainly didn't.

Really the Lexus mecanic that did not have time to resolve it for me was pretty confident it auto locks normally? I predict I’ll need new tires in maybe 6 months time. So doing my research now.

Re petrol and mileage I do 34 miles a day Monday to Friday (170 miles total a week). My average mpg is 31-32 with motorway and urban en routes. I am a super economical nerd driver when it comes to mpg but I also like to put my foot down when the road is clear. I have got into the habit now of using normal mode for town (with the blue dashboard light telling me I’m driving economical all the time), sports for motorway when I’m laid back cruising and sports+ when I’m in the mood to be playful.

So 170 miles a week or 34 miles a day mixed driving, urban and motorway, average 31-32 mpg and averaging £43 per week with shell v power.

The initial release series IV GS, in UK Spec, doesn't provide the ability for auto locking when driving off or moving out of Park. Seems some 'intelligent' person took a decision that a person cannot make a personal decision of what is of greater risk to them - to protect against unauthorised opening of the door or making it easier for emergency services to open a door.

It is a weird decision given that most, if not all, the other Lexus models at that time permitted this.

Only with the facelift models, 2015 onwards, was this feature added back to the GS.

Mine has Chris.

I'm confused. OP was asking weather the doors on his car should auto lock once a certain speed has been reached. My understanding is that UK registered series 4 GS models do not have this option available. I had a S3 450H SE-L and it did not have this feature either.  But you are saying that your facelifted S3 does automatically lock the doors after you reach a certain speed. So my apologies if I am wrong.

Yes Chris, mine locks automatically every time.

I understand that it was the Dealer which had the ability/facility to install/uninstall at the behest of the owner.

I wanted to ask question re engine sound does the v6 3.5l engine have a loud engine note as I know it’s not digital? This is my 1st automatic car owned and 1st v6, As when I’m driving spirted I can hear the engine give a nice growl. As I said my 1st automatic I’m sort of assuming if I put the car in neutral and floor it I’ll hear the engine note?

Re flappy paddles:

This is my first car with flappy paddles I’ve tried googling and YouTube to see it’s use. I’ve seen a million videos of shmee150 and Dmo etc lowering the gear with the flappy paddles for the purpose of showing off the huge engine note (which I’m not even sure the 450h projects outside to others a large engine note?) of said super sports car, apart from that is there any point of flappy paddles especially on the 450h? and what’s supposed to be it’s uses? And when and where do I use them? Also I’m guessing it won’t help make petrol economy good?
