Portable Sat Navs..

Recommended Posts

I use the HP3870 with the Navman SE Jacket, completely portable aswell, the only thing that lets this down is the volume on the PDA but you can run through the stereo

Dell Axim with Tom Tom and Seidio mount

Advantages you get a GPS camera locator (poor mans Road Angel), and you also have got a PDA

Disadvantage looks a little untidy on the dash

I have an Ipaq with a Bluetooth GPS and TomTom Navigator 3 so it is truly portable. I use a wired mount in the car (see http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...owtopic=16974&)

Very happy with it, all the speed cameras plus other points of interest added. Door to door navigation as well.

I too have the Ipaq with TomTom3 using Bluetooth GPS receiver.

It works really well and it's very portable.

I'm interested in doing something similar and would appreciate some advice and links to suppliers of these systems at reasonable prices. Even some members of LOC upgrading their system and willing to sell. Don't want to spend a lot of money as the mapping for Ireland isn't really up to scratch yet.

I've got an Ipaq 2210 in my van with tomtom 3. Works allright after I added a postcode database (cause finding an address in tomtom is not good) and of course a speed camera detector. I fitted the plug under the dashboard and hidden the gps wires away (but gps needs to be somewhere near windshield - mine is behind rear view mirror). So it's not so portable but works very good. My work is very easy and it gets where I want. I tought about fitting one in Lexus JDM tray but cannot fix it for lifetime as PDA requires a reset from time to time and in order to do it you need to take it out of the cradle. The advantage is that tomtom jacket connects the gps and the charger by itself so you just sit it in the cradle and of you go. very nice.
