Hello! New Person With Lots Of Questions

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

i have been looking at buying a new car and i have seen some very nice is 200's about and i would really like to get one, but i do have a few questions which im hoping you in the know might be able to help me with.

1) i want to buy brand new, is it worth it or should i get one with as few miles on a possible?

2) i have seen pics of supercharged 200's, whats the deal here? are they special additions or bolt ons?

3)who are tte? and im pretty sure i know who toyota racing development are but are there many tuning bits from them?

4) i dont want to ruin the appearance of the car as it is really nice but i get bored of cars after about a year so are they easy to tune up?

thankyou for any help you can give.

dont worry im not a billy bolt on chav i would just love to have an is 200 which looks standard but can really go when "da saxo and civic massive" turn up if you know what i mean.

Ta Gary

1) i want to buy brand new, is it worth it or should i get one with as few miles on a possible? dont know

2) i have seen pics of supercharged 200's, whats the deal here? are they special additions or bolt ons? they are bolt ons,, some very good deals going on them at the moment via this site,, expect to pay around 2k fitted for 50 extra ponies.

3)who are tte? and im pretty sure i know who toyota racing development are but are there many tuning bits from them? colin answered that one..

4) i dont want to ruin the appearance of the car as it is really nice but i get bored of cars after about a year so are they easy to tune up? not much available really, TTE s/c, nitrous, or turbo although the turbo kits around are pretty damn new to the market, there is a choice of zausts and suspension jobbies, not much inthe way of induction kits for non s/c cars.

have you considered an IS300, if your gona buy new and add another 2k for a s/c ,, it may be worth getting a used 300 as the they have the same output as a s/c'd 200. or even look at getting a tezza they are 2L and have the same horses as the IS300 although they are 4 cylinders instead of 6, but there are a few more s/c and t/c ktis available..

have a look at people garage links on the bottom of there posts, might give you an idea of whats out there.

if its tuing potential your after, i would either go for the is300 or the altezza mate...

Which ever of the 3 you buy, you`ll be made up...

I personally would never buy a brand new car... i just cannot justify the amount of money tyou loose as soon as you drive from the forecourt!

I honestly would buy a 6-12month old car, and with the money you save... MAKE YOUR FIRST MODS!! :D :driving:

I went for brand new, they had a good deal at the time with 1000 towards teh Lexus finance so I went for that.

Now there is a post regarding the new deals at Lexus for new cars, I believe they include a front arm rest for the manual SE and SATNAV and a boot spoiler... more details here

I have checked the lexus GB website and there is no mention of a new package but the press might be a bit ahead of the website.

wow thanks for the quick response guys! not much on in the office then?

i have issued the 300 but i would prefere manual and its my understanding that they are all autobox.

i have looked at some of the galleries about and on cardomain.com and at your garages nad im impressed with the cars on show.

insurance is abit scary on the 200 but im sure i will cope. being 20 that is.

stumbled across prolex as well which looks really good.

anywho cheers peeps. you've been most useful.

I'm about to turn 20 and have an IS200 Sport.

The cheapest place I found insurance is with egg.com , paying approx 1500-1600.

Quotes for the IS300 were around 2k - if it was a manual i'd get it.

The IS200 is a pretty good performer for its insurance grouping.

What car's have you had before? I went from driving escorts and a mondeo.

The difference is uncompairable!!

If you go to Lexus Stoke web site you get a pop up

http://www.lexus.co.uk/lexus/stoke

pop-up here if you get it blocked:

http://www.lexus.co.uk/lexus/stoke/dealerbannerinner.php

Also if you look at the price of the IS200 SE on the main site you will see there is only two options, manual with nav or auto with nav.

You'll find the Sport is cheaper to insure than the SE, higher IG but lower premium.

I've got 3 points, 1 Theft claim and 1years NCB.

My post code helps!

I would defo buy a pre-owned IS200, and I will probably buy a preowned again, but then again when the new IS comes out I probably won't - If that makes sense.

Anyway, in 2003 I bought my 02 IS200 SE Strath Blue with 6k on the clock for £17k, and that's circa £4k less than new! You have to weigh up whether you want to save money or want the full 3 years warranty - it depends on how many miles your gonna do!

If I was in your shoes, I'd look at preowned IS300's as they have a lot more poke than the IS200.

Good luck!

im currently driving a Fiat Bravo HLX which is supposed to be the flagship model.

its quite a nice car but i get bored of cars after a year and i ahve found its easier to tune up a moped than a bravo hlx so i decided to go car shopping. whilst out i made a conscious desicion that i want to move up to a saloon body and after at least ten seconds outside a lexus forecourt i decided it was clearly the way forward.

my best insurance quote is from confused.com, 20yrs, 2yrs ncb, no claims or bollockings and car value at 23500., quote was 1560. none to shabby me thinks.

I previously had the same problem, get bored of the car after 6 months to a year.

No signs of me getting bored yet, had it 6 months, grin every time I see some one look at it.

Worth every single penny.

Get a quote on a 2nd hand one with a lower value, you'll probably find the premium cheaper.

Cheapest I found for insurance were:

http://www.egg.com - Alow mods (who I'm with)

http://www.virgin.com (You won't be for long driving a Lexus)

http://www.elephant.com (Do a 10 month policy)

http://www.directline.com

http://www.tesco.com (underwritten by Direct Line but a few quid cheaper)

http://www.churchil.co.uk (Cheapest but no mods alowed)

the quote i got was from confused.com which are supposed to check lots of companies for you. i put the value so high because thats about how much a new 200 sport with everything would cost. it will be lower because i will be 21 when i go to insure therefore more age and ncb's.

i dont know why you wernt allowed any mods with churchill! i have been with them for the last two years on third party and they will insure any mod you want to do as long as you let them know. the only ones which they will charge extra for are a change in car colour or an engine change (not including like for like).

im interested to see what the new model will look like. if its really nice then i might as well wait for that to come out and buy it. if not i might buy the current shape because they will be cheaper to clear room for the new ones so there will most likely be a good bargain to be had.

who/what are/is altezza?

is it like in import version?

what engine is in it?

whats the insurance likely to be?

Altezza import version of the IS200.

The AS200 is comparable to the uk IS200 i.e. same 1G-FE straight 6 engine smooooth

The other is the RS200 with the 3SGE dual vvt-i...........210bhp (ish) 4 cylinder high revving, think along the lines of the type-r v-tec feel, hi-power na

The RS200 is the sportier version but less refined.

AS200/IS200 smoother more luxurious, sense of lesser urgency.

Oh yeah insurance for me was less than my FTO and the civic type-r (ukdm one!)

Not 'that' bad....but in my opinion as you are quite young I would go for the IS200, secondhand one as there are soooo many bargains out there and when you have the style of the IS you don't really need to prove anything to the boy racered up chav mobiles..........

all imho!!!! :winky:
