If you want to try the IS diesel engine test drive an Avensis ;)

But the Avensis, along with the new IS, won't have that engine until 2006.

Steve, how did you manage to test drive it when it's not ready yet?

Just got back from the launch of the new GS at Lexus Leicester. The cars looked fantastic, the pictures certainly don't do the cars justice. Hope some of the features and the styling are carried over into the new IS. I'm sure that most people who have only seen pictures of the IS will be bowled over when they see the car in the flesh.

Autoexpress this week say new IS petrol and diesel will be available at launch, is this correct? Thought earlier posts said diesel next year ....

This weeks Autocar says diesel in spring 06 (v Nov 05 for petrol).

I have seen the car and my first impressions were:

The front bit looks like Honda accord new shape --> not aggressive any more

The side view looks like BMW 5 series specially with the stupid thing on the roof . :crybaby:

No altezza Headlights …… killed it for me. :tsktsk:

Interior was nice but prefer aluminium or carbon fibre style gives it more sports feeling.

Finally, is there any difference between UK and Japanese spec in HP?

The way I see it 2009 I will Be getting one of those with TRD altezza tail lights and probably extra 50 BHP :winky:

:driving: Love the car but think the wood and the auto box sucks it needs a nice six speed manual and wood in a car makes me think of cigars and a copy of the Racing Post Whilst the exterior of the car is smart and contempary the wood harks back to the 80's dashboards of Rover & Jaguar Yuk!!

well, overall i'm not that impressed.

but,

obiously I cant wait to see it in the flesh so to speak.

i like  the interior though

:whistling:

Just got new Lexus owners mag - usual load of arty-farty rubbish, but does have some detail of the new IS220D.

Engine: 2231cc

Cyl: L4, 24V

174bhp @6400rpm

184ft/lb torque @ 3800rpm

Other than that the article says very little... a few snippets that we already thought were correct...

CD plays Mp3 +WMA

Diesel only gets manual box.

Petrol auto with flappy-paddle gimmick!

Heated/Vented seats mentioned as 'option'?

VDIM electrickery package.

I think the new one looks like a step forward. Agree with comments on wood interior - reminds me of Arthur Dailey's Jag! Problem is that there is a lot of it - replacing with black plastic would spoil the car, has to be gun metal!

Another thing, does the CD take multi disks and can I still play my old cassettes??

Will the diesel have the twin exhaust? Doubtful as being 4 cyl!

Glad to see they are sticking with 6-speed man box though.

BTW no mention of staggered launch of petrol/diesel in Lexus mag???

..........wonderv if they will do it in Kodiak Sky? (That is a colour for any who wonder!)

Enjoy Folks

Any errors please let me know.

http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/articles/..._lexus_is.shtml

Just the chap who designed the front bumper....

:lol::lol::lol:

I really don't like it.....

I hoep it looks better in the flesh and grows on me...... :crybaby:

the Toyota Avensis will be using the diesel fitted into the the new IS diesel which was tested in one of the big car mags (Autocar ?) and was quick enough to worry BMW 320d and 330d so i think performance wise the petrol units will up the pace as the Standard IS's are a little heavy for real performance.

Hey just had a look at the Autoexpress at lunch time… have a look at this

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/previews/57896/lexus_is250.htmlIS250 Review

i cant wait 2 have one  :D

The car looks cool, i looked at the autoexpress page and found the estimated cost £25K, blood and sand its gone up a bit from the original estimated costs to date of circa 19K-21K. The article also said launch date est., September not the November date that’s been banded about. I wonder what the MPG will be.

If its circa 20K i will have one no doubts..... :nuke:

This may have been posted before, but this is the response I got from Lexus UK when I asked about the IS 350:

"The Lexus IS350 is designed primarily for the US market. A final decision

on whether or not to launch this vehicle in the UK will be made in the next

couple of months. If the IS350 is launched in the UK then it will not be

launched until after 2006.

At the moment, there are no plans to release an IS coupe. "

:crying:

So, if you want an IS350, start hassling Lexus!!!

That's pretty much the same response as I got - "Insufficient demand" etc. So yet again Lexus drop their pants to Audi/BMW in the compact sports saloon market!

Seems like that Prolex blower is becoming more attractive by the hour :hehe:

Apparently, the new IS250/IS350 will be fitted with a Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system (read: Nanny monitor) that will not allow the TRC to be switched off. At all.

UK Brochure says VDIM only an option on the diesel cars...

Though as a UK brochure, obviously doesn't include the IS350.

Maybe the VDIM is only standard for the US models then?
