How Can You Have Your Fog Lights Only On.

Recommended Posts

Isn't it just putting your side lights on and then switching the fogs on?

Might be different as aasim305 appears to be in Miami so lights may be set up differently.

Yeah, could well be. Didn't notice the post was from Miami.

Hi, you'd probably be best asking over on LOC USA or Club Lexus as I know quite a few of the guys over there have their cars modified for what you're after :)

Alot of new cars now look like they have only fogs on lately with all these DRL's being fitted. I saw a bus today with DRL's which i first mistook for fogs!

The new E Class has DRL's where the fogs are too!

The whole idea of fog lamps is to have them on with the headlights off. They are for use in foggy conditions and have a flat topped very wide beam designed to illuminate the edges of the road rather than further ahead. The flat top and their low position gives less back reflection off the fog than normal dipped headlights, which should be switched off in conditions suitable for fogs.

Having said that, the lights on GSs don't really look like proper fogs since then have clear reflectors: proper fog lamps normally have moulded patterns on the front glass.

Some cars have 'driving lamps': 205GTis for example had driving lamps which were below the bumper, but designed to supplement the main beams: they were not fog lamps and were automatically switched off when the headlights were not on main beam.

Indeed, front fog lights are rubbish in the fog. They are pretty much meant to be used like the rear fog though..... so other people see you! However the steering fogs on my MR2 are quite funky on really tight glen/highland roads at night, actually aids in seeing where your going ;)
