New symptoms on my 98 LS400: one of the two temperature displays (on the dashboard) is no longer lit though the numbers are clearly visible; the various gauge needles are no longer showing bright white, just the night-time blue in either setting but it is still possible to change the level (for day or night) of dashboard illumination; the windscreen wiper fluid light permanently on though I have filled the reservoir; finally when I topped up (not a full tank)the fuel yesterday it did not notice it! (i.e.: the mileage since last refueled did not reset and the approximate range did not change either). No, I was not/am not on empty, yet! Does this sound like fuses, sensors,....? I will be most grateful for any ideas/suggestions. Thank you. (The Battery was replaced at the end of last year and installed by Lexus)

Hi guys!

Based on one write-up, 72 views and no replies that makes 73 of us who don't know what the problem/s or fix is... I suppose this suggests that Lexus doesn't give too much trouble and is well suited to non-mechanically minded owners - just my kind of car. Have to admit that the little problems do not in any way interfere with my enjoyment of the car.

All the best,

Only suggestion I can come up with is a faulty earth wire somewhere. They usually throw up al sorts of nonsense

This sounds a little like the troubles so common with the '93 and '94 LS400s ! The dash lights sometimes failed and it might be worth your while contacting Chris Vince ( on here but I can give you his email addy ) who has a "fix " solution for those models.

Maybe worth a try !

Myy 99 LS 400 has a non illuminating drivers side temp gauge, but i've not found a cure for this yet. It also has the washer bottle light on all the time - it is apparantly caused by the float in the bottle becoming porous and sinking. I'll be fixing this now the better weather is here.

Just noticed - no headlights either! The hazard lights work, the fog lights work, the side/parking lights work but turn on the headlights and nothing.... any thoughts? (the headlights do work on "flash" just not on permanently)
