  1. 1. How do you think the moderators should respond

    • PM the person and leave it to them.
      0
    • PM the person, and if no action is taken, edit the post.
      13
    • Just simply edit/delete as they see fit.

Since this is a public forum, i would like peoples opinion on how the moderators should act if they see a post which they deem to be 'unacceptable'.

I do however accept that the first two options may not always be practical..

And I am in no way critising the work that the moderators are doing, I'm simply looking for opinions..

While my vote is representative of the masses. I would like to add that I have great respect for the time commitment already afforded to us ingrates by the modderators. I guess the obvious argument is that to pm each dodgy post would be a major drain. I amsurte these people have families and Jobs and what not.

Lets not forget that they are facilitiating the second best club on earth.

Hey, we go to the pub too Loz!!

:D

But sometimes, mods aren't always present online.

And with the speed you guys can post, there can be 4 or 5 posts before either a MOD or the person who postsed will have had a chance to react to a PM.

We are erring on the side of caution, and if a post IS boxed, it's done so we riskj only upsetting one individual, rather than more than one.

As I said in an other thread, there is no great increase in the number of boxed threads, and MODS DO have to justify to other MODS why a post was moved in the first place.

If you think it's rowdy on the Public forums, you should see some of the posts in the MODS room!!

I have voted to simply edit without notification. Why? Because I think it woiuld be unrealistic to expect every post that is ever changed, moved, boxed etc to be communicated. Out of politness, yes, they should try, but hopefully, people would understand why it has been done (and if not, they can always PM a mod and ask).

In all fairness Moderator's are here to do just that....Moderate!! They have rules for this site and if we don't stick to them....then really it's just tough :tsktsk: the post has to be edited/deleted...IMO!

They are not picking on people just sticking to a club standard!! As Loz says they have lives too....well some do I'm sure!

But seriously, if a post gets edited/deleted there will always be a perfectly good reason for doing it...i'm sure...if needed a quick PM will let the person know....as GRiM has stated already!!

I know some people are feeling very strongly about all this, but at the end of the day guys....it's not the end of the world!!

Finally, I really must say......please lets stop all this bickering and name calling, nothing is being done to be personal.....let carry on having fun and enjoying the site and BEING MATES!!!!!

Neil

Okay, I think people may of taken this poll the wrong way....

As I said in the first post, I am looking for peoples opinion, and we all agree that a moderator must take action against an offensive post, demonstrated by the results, as no-one voted for option 1.

I think we all agree that moderators are here to do a job, and we are grateful to them for the hard work they put in, without any compensation.

As for the PM, as I said in the first post, we accept option 2 is not always practical, and Zee's comments (in this and the other thread) are very valid.

For anyone that thought this was an attack on Mod's, my apologies, this was not the case.

I voted for immediate action by the mod (gee - what a surprise eh? ).

Simple reason is - everyone says they love the forums - and, belive it or not, you have come to love the forums because a small team of mods do exactly that - remove / edit anything that is offensive, advertising - you name it - the mods get rid of it - most of the time before most of you see it - and leave the forums sparkling fresh for you.

Change the way the forums are moderated - and you will change the forums.

Just to re-iterate... ... everyone who has voted has agreed that a moderator must take action against an offensive post... and I think the majority of Option 2 votes are simply because people would like to think if their post was deleted they could find out why...

We all appreciate the job you do??? surely this poll demonstrates this???

poitless thread when really it makes sense to remove beforehand doesnt it.

remember.. THESE THREADS ARE NOT DELETED! They are held in a private forum for review and each mod has to give reasons why it was removed.

I have no idea why you're wasting your breath on this.

This Club isn't a democracy, it's run my a committee and we've made a decision about what we want to do. People are giving up their time gratis to moderate the forum and make it a good place - we have to spend a lot of our time deleting and editing inane crap posted by a small minority of ignorant small-minded people.

I for one am not prepared to spend even more of my time explaining why I've deleted a post.

Get over it - there is no point voting.

I actually agree with what Rodders says there - you can't put additional work onto people already giving their time for free.

I still think that declaring we shouldn't discuss Honda cars anywhere except the Honda forum was out of order - but as I responded, I don't agree with the sentiment, but I will abide by whatever rules are imposed.

editing inane crap posted by a small minority of ignorant small-minded people

I don't agree with this bit though ...... I think it is being harsh and I and my fellow chatters are certainly not ignorant or small minded!

Sammy

I don't think anyone actually said that you should only discuss Honda in the Honda forum. If it was me, I certainly didn't mean to and I'm sorry.

In the interest of moving along, I'm sorry about the small-minded / ignorant comments. It certainly wasn't aimed at you or anyone in particular - rather more at the general unpleasantness that has been around over the past few days.

I am closing these threads.

I shall be moving them in 24 hours but just so you all know that these threads will no longer be on the forums.

We have all made our point and we have all taken notes including me.
