Not at all. As I mentioned the chap doing the conversion is the same guy that does the Hilux conversions. 9 so far. he has looked into it enough, including photo's of the underside of my truck, and he is happy to do it for the same price he does the Hilux's. £3,500. Which is his labour charge, but includes fabrication of engine mounts and a custom exhaust system.

So;

£3,500 labour

£500 - £1000 for donor LS400.

£500+ on bits n bobs:Electric fan and thermostat.

Possibly a new rad.

Anti freeze

Fuel filter

Fuel pump

Belts, tensioners

Spark plugs, leads and dizzy

Coils, caps

Engine oil

Various hoses and clips for the 'adaption'

ATF

Tube and silencers for the exhaust

So £4.5 - 5k for the actual conversion.

In my case I will need a load capable vehicle to run around in for a month. So budget £1k for a Transit (reliable running gear but crap body). When all is said and done though I get to sell the transit. I also can recoup £1200 - £1500 by selling my old engine, gearbox, and dieselveg conversion fitted my to truck.

Brilliant info, thanks.

Do you have any links to stuff he's already done by any chance?

I love these type of conversions especially if there are you tube videos to go with them.

Loads of stuff mate. Lets start with this:http://www.hiluxsurf.co.uk/showthread.php?t=64519 - Pics of all his Hilux installations. I found out today he's also on Lextreme.

There's a video on that page too.

Oh btw, I spoke to my insurance company today. The extra premium for the conversion was far far less than I expected. Very happy with the quote.

Not got normal insurance these day's myself, however a few years ago when I was trying to insure an old omega I was told by the insurance company that if a car had 3 modification's then the car was classed as modified and therefore my insurance went down ! can't think which company I used, but the 3 mod's I had were LPG conversion, alloy's (not standard fit for the car) and a tow bar, from memory it brought my insurance down by £200 a year (was only 26 at the time)

they explained that a person with a modified car was more likely to look after there car

I have come across this before actually. My best mate has a Holden Commodore. Its on an unlimited mods policy with a specialist insurer. The unlimited mods include horsepower. It currently puts out 650bhp but he pays the same as he did when it was 300bhp. The insurance company actually told him that if he personally does the mods or has them done then that works in his favour because it means he cares about the car. It would be different if he bought it with all the mods all ready done apparently.

My truck is on an unlimited mods policy as well. But it did not include horsepower increases. So that's why I am so happy with the additional premium they quoted me for the 1Uz conversion.

Whose the policywith mate?

A few years ago when I ran my metro engine'ed trike I used Adrian Flux for insurance, good price nice people to speak with but this was a few years ago

My truck is with Brentacre insurance. They specialise in all things modified and although a broker they have their own underwriter. Each time I've added a modification I call them, they note it on the records, job done. Literally.

The Holden I mentioned is with Bridle Insurance in Southampton I think. To get the unlimited mods policy you need to be part of an owners club or the like and state that you do take it to meets etc.

Hi,

I've got a Mitsubishi L200 3.0Ltr V6 which the engine has given up the ghost :msn-cry:

Thinking of fitting a Lexus LS400 engine in and was wondering how far you've got and what problems you ran into.

I was hoping to use my gearbox in my truck as its a good strong one will the Lexus LS400 fit straight onto this box or do I have to do other things???

I'm based on the Isle of Wight so not a million miles away from you, if I could arrange to come over and have a look at your conversion.

Thanks

Paul

Checking his profile, he's not been active on here since mar 31st 2014, so you'll be lucky to get a reply.

Could always try a pm, as he might get an email telling him he has a message.

Pity, I'd like to have heard about his conversion, assuming he actually went ahead.

Well the Good News, is that I'm going ahead with this conversion and will do a build diary on here as well as L200 Forum as well.

I've bought the engine + everything that is needed to get it running The project will be starting this April 2015 :D

I'm sure there will be problems and will have to find answers for? :yahoo:

Hopefully aiming for the Summer / Autumn to be finished, but the list of jobs is getting longer and longer I must be mad :shutit:

Hello everyone. This went on the back burner due to illness but I'm happy to say it's back on now.

The conversion is now being handled by http://www.sunderland4x4.co.uk. They've got plenty of experience with the 1UZ-FE engine and know what they're doing. Its booked with them for late November early December, once they've finished their current customer projects.

I'm now buying in everything I need. I've just ordered today a Spit-Tronics ECU and TCU from www.race-systems.co.uk. This was recommended by James at Sunderland4x4.

I need a doner car now. LS400 pre vvti. I've got a few ear marked online but if anyone has anything here for sale let me know. Last time I was on here Benfur did offer me a palet with everything I need delivered within England. I've tried to contact him in the past couple of days it so far haven't heard anything.

Does anyone else know if there are reputable Lexus breakers around who would do a careful removal of parts?

I would prefer a palet if possible as it savesa lot of man hours and hassle.

I'm going to dress the engine up myself pre fitment so again if anyone knows of any decent dress up kits give me a shout.

The conversion is going to use the Torque converter, bell housing, input shaft and pump from the Lexus box and fit those to the Mitsubishi Auto box from the 2.8 Pajero. Which, as mentioned previously on this thread is the same box as the Lexus and will retain my four wheel drive. In theory at least the Transfer case should bolt to the Lexus box. If that does turn out to be the case then I can re sell the Mitsi box.

For now that's about it I think.

I'll update this as I order everything and post pics as we dress the engine up.

Good progress today. I found a company that imports low miles vehicles from Japan and then breaks them for the UK market. Nippon AutoSpares they are called. An LS400 doner car from the UK will cost £1000 - £1500 and have anywhere between 100k and 170k miles, from what I've seen.

While I'm not at all scared of that sort of mileage, Nippon currently have an engine, box and ancillaries ready to go with 80,000 miles for £1k. Less work, less hassle. Less miles. Less time dismantling. So I've basically called them and said I'm happy to take that package but can I have a couple more things added in. I have to call him back Monday for that.

Which brings me to the next question. Can anyone link me to a service schedule for the 1UZ so that I can see what should be done before its fitted. Oil, filter and coolant is a given but the rest probably depends on whats coming up due vs how awkward it is to do later.

Good job on the progress and glad you are well again.

Re: Benfur - I've contacted him as well last week and haven't heard anything back either .... I hope he is well

Thanks for replies guys. As said hopefully he's ok. No great panic on my end though. I'm quite happy to purchase from Nippon. However since yesterday I've received a reply from another chap who breaks LS400's. They're UK vehicles I believe so not the low miles you get on a Jap engine, but he's selling the whole kit for a good deal less. It's good to have options.

Due to time constraints and the last straw was the cat to exhaust bolts rounding off I have now decided to break my 1994 Toyota Celsior, engine has done 170,000 KMs and has FJSH and a comprehensive UKSH.

PM me if interested.

Am I right in thinking that you can't get a belt, tensioner, and water pump kit in this country outside of Lexus dealerships?

I can't be the only one considering ordering from the U.S. Please advise. Evidently still have a lot to learn about all things Lexus.
