Hi all. Anybody used apec or pagid front disc's. Seem cheap enough but are they any good. Wouldn't mind if they lasted a couple of years ad by then i would have probably changed car by then. I know you get what you pay for but as i say a couple of years is fine. Merry xmas to all

Yes.

They are totally different from the aftermarket parts. They may look the same but it is the materials they use. Remember this was a £45,000 ish car brand new. The parts you have to order in advanc as they do not stock these items, usually next day but being Christmas may take longer. £150 for front discs and £80 for pads and £20 to £40 labour from local independent.

No aftermarket parts will sort your problem out. I learnt this the hard way.

either use Lexus parts or from a breakers yard, no 2 ways about this.

Sorry, I've got to disagree. My lexus has had quite a few sets of discs over the years, and it seems that it doesn't matter if they are genuine parts or not - they seem to last about the same. I recently changed out Blueprint discs at 20k and fitted Pagid items - both with ferodo premium pads. Wheel wobble when lightly braking was solved (again) and I've since done about 3k and all still fine. Pagid discs did look a bit more upmarket than blueprint ones I must admit.

Blueprint pads weren't great though - squealed a bit hence I changed to Ferodo.

I replaced my discs with aftermarket ones and also used Mintex pads. This cured the juddering I experienced when braking from high speeds. One thing I don't do any more is sit in traffic or at red traffic lights with my foot on the brake pedal too long when the brakes are hot. Also, once in a while, at a safe and convenient place I apply the brakes really firmly -- this definitely helps to free off any sticking brake calipers. I found any slight judder disappears after doing this a few times. I picked up these tips from an on-line brake specialist when researching which replacement discs/pads to buy.

I am having rear pads replaced today with Pagid, so will know soon enough if that was a good move.

However I would go with original discs when they need to be replaced - though both front and rear are nowhere near worn.

I am not sure what my front pads are, or whether the disks are Lexus (car has done 150K), but I get no judder on braking.

But the idea of a bit of really hard braking now and again to free up things sounds like something worth doing (but not with the missus in the car!)

I can only speak of my own experience with my LS400 but I only ever used genuine parts from Lexus as I wanted to keep my car as original as possible

As a bonus, I actually found that Lexus dealer prices were competitive with other alternative parts too (my Lexus dealer used to give some good financial incentives including 20% off their labour rates and at least 15% off parts prices as a way to encourage me to keep using them to service my car)

I used Blueprint discs and OEM pads, never had any problem.

I think a lot of the wobble and similar problems is more likely calipers that need

a good clean and checking for partial seizure.

Also when fitting discs the hub must be perfectly clean to ensure the disc

runs true.

Agree with Roy particularly about the calipers and hub needing to be cleaned and checked too

I would hope that any decent garage / mechanic, whether it be a franchise dealership or an independent would always check that the other surrounding components are in good order

I had a nightmare experience with my Audi A8 where the brake discs and pads were replaced at considerable cost and within 3 weeks, I got serious wobbles and shuddering under braking due to a badly corroded hub which caused excessive wear and tear in the replacement parts. Audi did agree to replace the parts under warranty but only on if I paid for new hub

They never explained to me why they never picked up on this corrosion before they did the job though !

SOOOOO annoying! Why can't people do a PROPER JOB!!

Very annoying for sure and I was more annoyed with the Audi dealer for not even having the courtesy to apologise for missing this 1st time around and then making me jump through hoops to get the replacement parts

But this is a Lexus forum, not an Audi forum so no more on this !

I've found Mintex pads do a good job. I think my discs were Blueprint when I replaced them, I can't really remember now, but so far I've no complaints. My brakes are top notch on my mk 4 (has brake assist).

Lexus original pads and disks were rubbish on my LS430 - EBC disks and Green Stuff pads are great - make sure the disks have less than 4 thou run out or they will judder very quickly. This usually means you have to clean things uo before installing.
