Boy Racers Cars!

got caught out very recently in a race with a 1.2 nova merit

stopped at the traffic lights and the little oik in the drivers seat gave me a nod and reved his brown painted poobox up, i thought this should be fun and got ready

it got a worse pull away from the line by me and i thought he was going to be spedning some time in the rear view mirror, only to have him pull past me within 100m

after racing upto very illegal speeds and coming to another set of lights did i find out he had stripped anything out of the car but a single bucket seat and rollcage and he had transplanted a 2.ltr turbo calibra engine into it running almost 300bhp

all this and a brown 1.2merit shell!!!

gotta give him respect for having such a street sleeper catching lots of cars of guard i bet

I have to say the worse car is the old mini. I saw a mini van in bright orange complete with spoiler on the roof (why?) faired out wheel arches, alloys, lowered suspension, the neon external lighting and the blu washer jet lights. Ruined a classic car. The spoiler I could understand if it was on a race track but talking to racer who races a modifed mini in the Europa engineering series, he said it did nothing and was more for show.

On the other hand the best midified has to be Tony Sugdens (a racing driver who retired this year who is above the age of retirement) skoda. he put a cosworth engine in it. When he lft Oulton park one day a couple of "Youngsters" in there XR2i or whatever, tried to race him from the lights. They did the useual reving on the engine trying make their car look good. Tony left them standing . He says when they cought up at the next set of lights they looked embarrised. He was not sure whether it was they had just been beaten by a Skoda or it a pensioner had done it.

I've got to say it's the Novas that I find silliest. Unfortunately, my son is just getting to the driving age and he rather likes the thought of a Nova. :yack:

Despite the temptation, I rarely race them.

Firstly, they'll go to insane speeds to beat you, even in built up areas,

Secondly, I'm willing to bet that not all of them have declared the mods to their insurance company... So any error on their part could be costly... :crybaby:

Thirdly, they'd probably beat me anyway. Letting them go is less embarrasing than losing. :)

Still, when the Altezza gets here... :whistling:

well I have to say nova.. total waste of time.. buy a cheap car for insurance then mod it up so much you might as well buy a decent car with the performance to match..

Talking of giving peeps a glimpse of dont mess mate!!!!

A work mate has a festa xr2i chipped with body kit and front splitters kent cams and such .. he was forever bleating about how quick it was and how he could wipe away anything..(well I suppose compared to his old 1.3l escort) it is quick..lol anyway on sunday we were all out doing paintball and on the way back down the duel carriageway he kept trying to play... so I motioned for him to stay level.. and in true f and f style dropped my hand out the window and we went for it.. well we had only gone 500yrds or so and he was about 4 or five cars away..lol .. funny he did not say anything at work on monday

:offtopic: I had a pooh brown Datsun Cherry 100a in 1980 with a full Janspeed conversion fitted BHP was 85 from 45 :whistling: looked bog standard from the outside apart from the exhaust pip being a little bigger

The number of cars I "had" in that was something else............ :whistling::offtopic:

Back on topic................Any car with neons & enormous roof spoilers

There are loads of gay looking Nova's round here, don't know what it is but they must have a competition when they're younger to see who can get the biggest exhaust on the crappiest car - think I missed that part of life so must be due a massive mid life crisis

A BAG OF NAILS!!!!!!!!

you dont know your 6R4 THEN......

the best groub B rally car ever built, yes even better than the ford RS200 and the Audi quattro swb

the 6r4 is still a killing machine on rallys today

imagine a metro with a turbocharged v8 engine where the rear seats should be......then add 4 wheel drive

I hate Honda CRX !

I fully understand ..... must be disheartening to see an elderly car turning more heads and giving so much pleasure for so much less outlay! :winky:

I have my Lexus for day-to-day transport .... and my CRX comes out for special occasions, fun and justthe joy of driving a superb car. :D

Sorry mate I'll be honest I haven't got a clue what that is but I saw the dustbin lid and thought it was something along the lines of this:
