  2. Unfortunately the RCF TE was as quiet as the electric cars when I watched it go up the hill on two occasions. If Lexus wanted to promote the car in the super car run they should have ensured it sounded good considering the company it was in. Strange because the LC 500 sounded great & I was looking forward to hearing the TE as everything I have read to date suggested it is also supposed to sound good 🙄A couple of photos👍🏻

  3. conclusion..... went back today to re-work it with a clear head ..... the fuse that was ok yesterday was blown today! .... replaced that and I then got 12v on the wires. Then took a file to the mountings scraped off the paint and put it back together... all good now (phew). if it keeps working for the week, I'll put some waxoil onto the exposed parts. So, yes, seems like they get so much grief, exposed at the front, those contacts need serious cleaning if you ever disturb them

  5. UPDATE Got the kit from America. Had to pay an extra £4+ and taxes and import duties AND the Post Office's £8 administration charge to collect the duty! Anyway did the repair exactly like the American video and I has worked out perfectly. Just put everything through the rear woofer speaker and there is no distortion whatsoever. When I cut the old gasket away it really was quite fragile and fell away easily. Some tips. Get a really sharp modelling knife or new Stanley blade. Always cut away from the centre of the speaker. It is so easy for it to slip and cut into the cone. Get all the old gasket off the metal ring by scrapping and then using nail remover as this works a treat, but it is a bit messy. An old thin clean rag worked well to remove the old stuff. Take lots of photos, because when it is all in bits, refitting it took ages. A 15T torx screwdriver is good for removing the 4 holding screws. Wrap the 4 bolts that hold the speaker to the chassis in kitchen towel before the 10 mm socket goes over the bolt head. This really does hold it in and stops bolts shooting under the felt and away. Let the glue dry for about 3 hours for the inner ring and overnight for the outer. I only used about 3% of the tube but it is fantastic stuff, and specially designed for speaker repair. You can buy these gaskets on ebay for £2-3, but the glue really is the key. Overall, it cost me about £41 with taxes etc. Expensive, but the American kit is a perfect fit, and the glue is amazing. If anyone wants to borrow the glue, let me know.

  6. It makes me laugh that they had intended ditching fm radio several years ago until someone realised DAB wasn't the panacea for all ills. Today I drove from Shrewsbury to Gloucester and until I got South of Gloucester City I had perfect reception on BBC Radio Shropshire on FM. 👍

  7. Thank you very much, sure enough it was that. Now I have to find the knob who pressed it, oh wait a minute, it could have been me.

  8. Maybe I should have said not bad for a car not made in Japan!

  9. 🤣😁 As for the fails it was the advisory's that got me as they seemed to be consistent and that would lead me to believe the car was not looked after at all - any of my cars that failed on something small (we have a different way of doing MOT's over here and they are VERY strict) it was immediately rectified and therefore would not show up again. Another one (possibly me reading into it too much) was the one about the number plate - usually done here by the boy racer types so adding 2 and 2 together (bad tyres, spaced number plate) I have expected to see it videoed sliding round a B road somewhere driven by a baseball hat wearing yoof 😎

  10. Just to follow up this thread, I had great success with my exhaust and eventually and have just enjoyed a lovely journey down to Dorset with my exhaust just a distant whisper even during sport button blasts. ARO exhausts in Buckingham is actually one very good egg working out in the middle of nowhere and who’s got a lot of experience with our cars and really impressed me. He gave me a ballpark quote and I said if it goes over, just do it and we’ll discuss later.. he said, if it goes over then he’d have messed up and he wouldn’t charge! In the event, it sounds like there was a bit of welding and a fair bit of realigning the aftermarket exhaust that had been fitted a couple of years ago. All in it was £120 and I was very happy indeed, I’d thoroughly recommend and am booking in my wife’s Golf soon. Just got the wheels, service, cam belt, battery, power steering leak, central locking to go...

  12. I don't think it is inevitable. If yours haven't gone by now they probably won't. I'm a big believer in this being linked to how well a car is looked after and if you regularly clean your car with decent quality shampoos and waxes/sealants and any previous owners did the same then you're good to go. However, if an easy fix for cloudy/yellow lights is required then I can recommend ArmorAll Headlight Restorer kit. It's 3 wipes, two for removing the unpleasantness and one for sealing. It really does work and it's about a tenner from Halfords. Naughty chemicals though so mask your paintwork. Any more severe damage (where the surface of the lens feels rough/damaged rather than just yellow) then you need to wheel out the big guns like the Autoglym kit and your drill. And funnily enough I did my 9-5 today. I'm considering buying the ArmorAll kit again just for the sealant wipe.

  13. I clean mine with liquid metal polish (or paste such as Solvol Autosol) about twice a year, followed by a coat of wax (as used for bodywork paint protection. My 13 year old lights are perfectly clear - car is parked outside facing North-ish. Sent from my PSP7551DUO using Tapatalk
