  1. If anyone is thinking of installing a dash cam then I recomend this one. I did not want any suction mounts or trailing wires. This one actually mimics the way Lexus have mounted the rain sensor and the rear view mirror so looks factory fitted. The picture quality is excellent. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/311193970960?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I cut some black fablon to stick the camera to and hide it from the outside. The wire tucks into the head lining and trim down the front of the door shut then across to the middle fed from the socket in the center console arm rest. A nice factory look installation. 2. New to the forum as I've just signed on the dotted for a 5 month old used IS300h Executive with 3k on the clock after a 24hr test drive in a demonstrator. Initially I'd not really considered a Lexus coming from 3 BMWs and was wary of the reports on the CVT transmission especially after coming from an excellent 8 speed ZF in a 2013 3 series. The reports are rubbish, the transmission is smooth with the engine only audible under hard acceleration; what swung it for me was the quietness of the drive - after the racket generated by the run flats on the Beemer - and the general level of luxury not evident in the current 3 series.

  3. Just got a quote from Adrian Flux and I will be taking that up starting the 1st september. Full comp, £300 excess 6000 miles per year and all the other bits for £416. Current insurer quoted £534, and £500 excess so I have saved £118....TOUCH!

  4. I had an exhaust added about two weeks ago and have a valve on a remote to bypass the silencers. This makes it louder and deeper around town but gets rid of the drone at 70mph. I normally drive in the louder mode but it is nice to have a more muted sound for early mornings/ late nights. The note from the car is much improved , up to 4000rpm in particular, with a great burble under load. It is not quite as good a note as I had with teh Larini exhaust on my last car but it certainly makes me want to keep the Lexus for that little bit longer.

  5. I'd not pay that for a 47k car, if you are happy with the mileage, that should be £19k all day long. But I'm a tough customer. I'm getting mine from Carwow, but dealt directly with my local main dealer. I got 9.6% of retail price. Basically £1000 less than the price of a 6000 mile, one year not so highly speced Lexus approved model. Under 2 weeks to wait now...

  6. Your quite right! I'm now on my 4th Lexus and stayed within the brand mainly due to the level of luxury and the toys you get far exceed the others but also the main reason is reliability!!!! Over that last 10 years with Lexus spread over 4 cars I can count on one hand the number of none wear and tear related issues even having owned the dreaded diesel version! I think that speaks volumes. My best mate is a avid bmw nut and won't hear anything other than bmw being best oh and golfs. He currently has a 1 series from New. With upgraded msport alloys When I asked him why he didn't get any other options like Sat nav or leather his reply was have you seen how much extra they all are! My simple answer to that was there you go then you get more than this in a vectra! Not knocking bmw, they clearly have a stratagy that works well for many a owner and business user galore. But put me in something that as soon as you sit in it and drive it just ooses luxury along with reliability then I'm sold!

  7. Makes sense to get a higher mileage vehicle if you only do 4k miles a year, after a few years it will be back down to average mileage. You just want to get a good deal for the high mileage in the first place. £20k seems fair, it will be interesting to see if they will go that low.

  9. I'd just like to pipe in here as I've recently just upgraded from the ct I got a late 2013 63 plate with 27k on the clock Fsport fully loaded with Leather heated and ventilated, full premium nav Memory etc in white The only option it doesn't have is the ML (I don't think it does anyway) For £21,495 So I would also say keep looking. I wouldn't imagine anything being mechanically wrong but the 3 year warranty only runs to 60k so if you do a lot of miles you could find the warrenty runs out very soon. Which personally is not something I'd want on a car I'm paying a considerable amount of money for.

  11. Depends on the spec. You can add £4k to the list price of an F Sport with options. You won't get a fully loaded one for £28k I'd say that price is high. This one has all the options (2k leather ventilated seats, premium nav and ML) with less miles for the same money: http://usedcars.lexus.co.uk/used-IS/IS-300h/2.5-F-Sport/Cardiff/3627529-605066456-1607064.aspx?srcmdc=se_na_re_ At 47k miles I'd expect a price of around £21k for a fully loaded example (without AVS as these are impossible to find on the early ones). If it had cloth seats then at least £1k lower.

  13. using an online broker a brand new F-sport can be had for around 28K. So 5K cheaper. But not much warranty left and 50k on the clock. Depends how you value those and how you calculate that into your overall cost of ownership really (Ie, cost after a set amount of time when you intend to sell). If you're financing as well maybe the newer might not be so much more expensive... https://broadspeed.com/new_cars/Lexus/IS/4_Doors/Saloon/Petrol/2.5/ Have you ever used CarWow, basically a reverse blind auction where dealers bid to sell you your desired spec of car. Both of these still allow trade in as well. I used both services to judge the amount of discount I should be aiming for at the dealer and played hardball until I got the discount that I thought was reasonable, which was a match of the broadspeed price at the time.

  14. I've seen this topic so many times and i had a similar problem. The fault was a current drain, as mentioned above. It turned out to be the pre-amplifier under the back seat. The bearing in the fan had dried out. I replaced it and have never had a problem since. Even three weeks at Heathrow!

  15. Having paid £26K for my 9 month old 14 plate F Sport with < 7000 miles I would say keep looking for a better deal

  16. I feel that Bluesman has been taking hostage by our Robot overlords. Unfortunately the Is200 may have 2 extra cylinders but dosnt quite give the same power. If you're looking for more power with the looks of a Lexus try looking for a manual Toyota Altezza. Its the exact same car but with 4 cylinders and 200+bhp. That being said tho if you supercharge/turbo the Lexus you get a good 200+ bhp. I'm looking in to an Eaton M62 charger from a merc as they're pretty cheap i just need a cradle fabricated (Zip ties wont cut it lol) That being said tho yesterday my IS200 pulled like a train from 50 all the way to 120 very quickly and with ease. (Private road) Lexus has the luxury. If you really want a car that's RWD, luxury, high bhp, low maintenance then try looking in to an RX8. I've been looking and apart from engine problems if not looked after they seem to run nice with lots of power from a tiny tiny engine and BIG BIG turbo.

  17. Ahhh ive found the reason for OUR medical problems..... All related to being LS owners hahaha, As some of you are aware I HAD Lymphoma cancer this time last year, and had the decision wether to sell or park my LS up.... Many kind people volenteered to run it for me whilst I was poorly (cheeky bar stewards lol) I informed DVLA as well but my condition didn't require notification to DVLA or my insurance company Which I thought was odd as I'm also a HGV driver.... Anyways I got better (didn't sell my car) and now back to terrorising car drivers on motorways in my lorry

  18. As far as I know the security / immobiliser code is stored on the chip inside your key / fob. You might need to switch ignition on and off (or similar procedure) to start the car after reconnecting the battery, but the code will not be lost.

  19. I wouldn't tar all tyres made by one manufacture with the same brush. It's a bit like saying Lexus vehicles are all noisy after just test driving a CT200h. All manufacturers have made good and bad tyres in the past and their current ranges are all built to certain prices - a low end Michelins is no match for a higher end Pirelli for example. I'd had some shocking Michelin tyres in the past.

  20. Not exactly - I paid £990 for 3 services - 2 majors and a minor as I paid for the 10k one myself so have 20,30 and 40k in the plan. What you pay for is - if something gets botched up, they'll fix it immediately - not like the independents who sometimes refuse to say they've caused it. Also, you get the hybrid healthcheck included free which is ESSENTIAL for the hybrid warranty + they take care of your car - ive had 3 services, an MOT and a full tyre change - not a single scratch on my car. I went into the work area and they cover the whole car with cloths including the interior to make sure they dont get it dirty. Having said that - if you have a car over 5 years old you may as well go for Lexus Essential Servicing which is cheaper than the full Lexus service.

  21. Warmth most definitely affects hybrid battery packs as it does any battery really, heat is a big killer, cold makes them Lazy. I have seen posts on other models where the unsuspecting owners believe they have "extra speakers" as the vent covers often unfortunately do have that kind of appearance. Your car actually has 3 separate cooling fans that run together to cool the battery pack internals, quite powerful centrifugal ones too. :) A very good thing.

  22. That's very kind of you to look, but I'd rather pay the extra for a new one. I know what the couriers are like and USA is a long trip for something that's seemingly a little fragile. I have already instructed and paid the Levinsonian Elves their fee and they are beavering away in the hills above Levinsonia expertly fashioning my new speaker out of lark's vomit and truffle oil. I understand they are distantly related to the endangered Bavarian Pixies that occasionally find the time to make little plastic bits for my classic 911 and bring them to Stittgart every 4 months (at a price). I will be keeping my eye on eBay to see if any cheap ML speakers come up, that way I won't be scared to turn it up above 45...

  23. Not to worry - power now restored to the DVD unit and headrest screens. Either the under passenger seat replacement fuse was not seated fully or there is/was a loose connection under the seat somewhere. Power now good and now on to the faulty DVD player now. I have ordered a replacement 13way flex ribbon cable for inside the player. Looks to be intermittently open circuit causing the dvd's to eject whenever they are pushed in. I wil let you know if it works when replaced.

  24. I like this piece:- It is finished with the most luxurious materials, but it is designed to age gracefully – and very, very slowly.

  25. Just thought I'd let you all know that it was indeed a wheel bearing, the Mrs eventually got it looked at by our local garage and they sorted it out, no more buzzing/humming ! Thanks everyone for your advice and input

  27. Hi. Just an update for anyone who is interested. I had a Olympian hoist put in my RX 400h and it is great. No trouble with battery drain. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk

  28. Well £70k is the top of the range Premier though so other versions are going to be cheaper. Im predicting the Luxury version to be about £60k. However, I wonder what the 200t pricing will be! NX200t is slightly more expensive than the 300h, due to more performance I think. The RX450h has more performance than a 200t so Id expect the 200t to be about £3-5k cheaper I guess you could go to Porsche but no Porsche SUV looks as good as that RX - period! Actually, I think its the best looking SUV in the segment - bags of presence!

  29. I can see that nobody knows anything about it, so I want to share my research with you, maybe it will help someone in future. I asked same question to lots of Lexus Dealers' parts departments and that's the conclusion. Half of them did not respond to this question, 4 said that shock absorbers are mono tube, 2 said they are twin tube and one technician did not know what I meant. Lexus dealers wants over 700£ for all 4 shock absorbers. I know the genuine parts are made by KYB. KYB in their catalogue shows Gas A Just (mono tube) shocks as an Recommended OE replacement. Unfortunately they are not on sale in UK and has to be imported from US. Their price is 360$ for all 4 so even with import taxes are much cheaper (Around 430£). Finally I am going to import shocks from Japan for same money but they are definiately genuine OE. I am not really sure if these KYB Gas A Just are made to OE specification so I decided to get OE shocks from Japan for around 400£. I just do not know how can Lexus dealers have so high prices if these parts can be bought for 3 times less. I hope it will help to anyone interested :)
