  2. Thanks for the replies - yep, the lock switch was the problem! (Or, rather, the idiot who'd pressed it and not noticed!!) mea culpa :-) Cheers - Dáithí

  4. Just thought I would say hello as I have just joined the site. Looking forward to spending yet more time away from doing what I should be doing! Have been a Lexus lover for many years but after just buying my first Hybrid, I felt it be necessary to join the club. Bye for now.

  5. Having a MIG welder and a cylinder of CO2 I put this in my tyres, being heavier than air this makes the tyres produce more ground force which greatly improves the feel of the steering and vehicle stability. OK I made that up but am enjoying the debate.... Keep it civil please :)

  6. Thank you for that Robert. A very thorough reply indeed. When I checked the Lexus Portal your map data (2015/2016 ver 2) matches that for the 08 HDD system on the GS450h. I think mine is the EMVN (11 HDD) so the updates will, presumably be different. When I bought the car last November I understood, apparently mistakenly, that it would have the maps updated. When I realised, earlier this year, that they were still the original 2012 versions I contacted Lexus Leicester from whom I bought the car and have negotiated the update for about £80 (half price because of the misunderstanding). They told me that the latest version was Feb 2016 but because this differed from the (May 2015) details on the Lexus portal I deferred assuming that the updates would be yearly but here we are in June and the portal still claims May 2015 as the latest version. I await some further information. I hope you get on well with your GS. I'm still getting used to mine. I'm much more familiar with cars that are a bit rough and in my GS I feel I should be wearing a peaked cap sitting in the front while the real owner sits sedately in the back! I like the calm female voice on the car navigation but I don't find it as intuitive as Google maps on my phone. My girlfriend can usually sort out navigation on her phone before I've got the Lexus nav sorted out but that could be a bit of lack of experience. Had I got the earlier GS like yours I think I would have invested in the Vaistech equipment which apparently permits one to mirror one's mobile phone screen on the Lexus screen and control the phone from the remote or touchscreen in the car. Seems then one can have the latest Google maps for free. Sadly it won't work on the Mk 4 model I have (or rather what they sell for the Mk4 only provides the ability to programme the Navigation system or play a video with the car moving. UK models already permit the former and I've no intention of watching videos while I drive (My car does permit me to listen to them when in motion but I need to park to view them). Thanks again and happy motoring. Barry

  7. Yep, link is fixed. Sounds really good that - I thought you already had a CAI put on?

  8. I was thinking about BMW 330 at least, but the main issue for me about bmw, audi, vw is the reliability: too expensive, and it crashes in the worst moments. the FD2 would be a very good option, but I can't find something good for sale here. That's one of the reasons for which I want to stick with Asian cars: reliability and performance. They are so f*** good!

  9. Ofcourse if you really want a car that combines comfort and speed you have to consider the BMW 340i and Audi S4. Despite reliability issues my old 335i is/was the best petrol car i ever owned/driven. It was as much at home doing the daily commute, but loved been thrashed on a twisty B road, yet still refined enough my wife feel aspleep whilst I was doing 140mph+ chasing after a S5 on the autobahn. In the USA Lexus offer the IS350 which is supposd to be just as good as the BMW/Audi. But sadly here in the UK we don't get that option :(. I truly loved my old 335i, if I haven't been converted to an EV addict (my current and future cars have to be full EVs), I would still be in the 335i, probably would have gone down the modified turbo route and chasing 500bhp+ on normal unleaded

  10. not played that video, will do tomorrow (doubt its as good as my boxer flat 6 though. ) , dont see the whole point of messing about with sound creator things myself, why not stick on an induction kit and get it done with. Its my reasoning on this topic. The car looks very well anyway, sound creator or not.

  11. something like the CU2 will be the Legend and thats even better as it has more power than CU2, 4 Wheel drive and a V6 engine which will sound good with a Mugen CAI. am quite surprised you dont like the Legends. what i like about them is they dont shout look at me. theroad tax and mpg is high but decent ones with respectable mileage could be picked up for half your budget and money saved could be used to run it and dare i say might drive better than an IS250/200T. have you also considered Infiniti G37/M37 ?? another understated Q luxury car which has been shunned by European car buyer but does very well stateside.

  13. I see this being mentioned about seals in master cylinders, but never in all the years I've done brakes have I ever undone the bleed nipple or flipped a seal. It would seem very odd for seals to be so slack they could flip under such small back pressures. The pressure of applying the brakes would be massively greater and should flip the seal if it was that way inclined surely? Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC

  16. This is all going to sound very contrary and as with everything its a personal preferance so bare with me. I know a bit about this (not all but some) having worked for 3 top flight motorsport and manufacturer race teams over 8 years as a chassis dynamicist tyres were basically my focus. All F1 teams run nitrogen in the tyres but to acheive any benefit at all from this the fill has to be at almost 100% purity and completely dry, this is very important. To cycle a set of 4 F1 tyres to 100% purity takes about 1 hour with a stupendously expensive rig and a twin valve system on each wheel. Now this of course is largely irrelevent to us as we dont have this sort of tech at our local kwik fit, however a proper setup should pull air from the sealed tyre first to purge as much atmospheric gas a possible before filling, if this is not the system used then its not worth it. At best you will see a dispacement of about 25% atmospheric gases through a standard nitrogen fill process. This is maybe sounding like I'm on the negatvie side of the fence when applied to a road car but this is where the contrary part comes in. I use Nitrogen. There are other benefits to nitrogen filling, the first is mentioned in previous posts, its dry and wont support moisture, moisture is the worst enemy when it comes to consistant tyre pressure and wheel bead corrosion, the second is that tyre pressure loss will be less, it doesnt stop the defaltion over time but does reduce the rate of loss to the tune of about a 1/3rd less loss over the same time period. My personal synopsis, I buy expensive tyres, £6 for Nitrogen is nothing, you have nothing to lose and 'maybe' something to gain. I cant feel any difference but knowing its there somehow makes me feel better.

  17. Back on topic lex28. I'm not a wealthy guy and I use the bank to finance the purchase of my cars. I budget £300 every month for my car. My present loan is based on 3.4% apr so is not into rip off territory. I tend to change every 2 years and it works for me. It's a bit like a company having a £300 pcm lease budget, but I own my vehicle at the end. With careful purchase of a six year old car, the depreciation is usually less than my bank payments. Then I move on to the next one using the last vehicle as down payment on the new one (to me). Not sure I'll change this one though, quite rare and only done 37k with full LSH. We'll see when the time comes.
