  1. Afternoon all, I've recently (yesterday!) bought a 2008 RX400h SE-L so hopefully I'll be around for a considerable amount of time. I think I got a decent deal, I ended up paying 10750 for the car, 66k miles, full Lexus history, a few options that weren't advertised were even on the car. It came with the towing pack, roof bars, boot liner etc and the posh rear dvd equipment that the kids adore. I've spent the day cleaning and treating the leather and giving it a good look over. A few marks which are to be expected on a car of this age but overall, I love it. Fantastic purchase. I'm considering both the Lexus service plan and the extended warranty - if anyone has any information on either of these before I get a change to pop over to the dealer it would be appreciated. Hopefully, I can contribute something in the future! Cheers

  2. @Huutch you can buy a small Bluetooth streaming device from GROM audio (installs behind the nav screen). It will allow you to steam Bluetooth from your phone/plug in ipod etc and change tracks using the steering wheel controls. Available on eBay/Amazon for about £100.

  4. With regard to bits of metal flying off and entering the A/C system just to reassure those of you that fear this could happen, it can't. The A/C compressor is driven via a magnetic clutch off the crankshaft via the serpentine belt. The compressor as a built in pressure switch that electronically disengages the clutch if the pressure drops for any reason, be it leaks or seizure due to lack of pag oil etc. The seizure is the main fault on all A/C compressors due to lack of oil and the Magnetic clutch is mainly there as a safeguard against further damage to the system. On the mark 1 Lexus LS400 the compressor would go on and off during operation depending on the loading but on later models a new compressor was introduced with balanced pressure features that enabled constant operation.

  5. Yep, the inverter recall was carried out in 2014, it's listed on the service. I have no idea what that is but I'm glad it's been done! Thanks :)

  6. The one feauture the LS lacks, including my 400, is heat insulating glass. Mercedes had it in the 80s and 90s and it should have been standard. I could not live without aircon and have spent quite a bit replacing seals, pipework etc to keep mine working. If I were in the position of not being able to afford a fix, I would have to sell the car, although I would investigate the possibility of heat reducing film for the windows first

  7. Exactly the same Brian happened to mine. Chasdad it really is worth finding out whether the compressor is just leaking or is it still turning, is the clutch working, has it broken up inside? as then you'll have shards of metal running around your system, any decent A/C professional should be able to give you a proper idea of what is occuring. Have a look at this site http://www.ac4cars.co.uk/ it will give you an insight and you can partly diagnose what's happening with your compressor yourself. I put this site link up here for purely educational purposes and if I am breaking any rules please edit it. The website is not the easiest to navigate so here's a better link http://www.airconditioningforcars.co.uk/ACpage01.htm

  9. I have led bulbs inside the car, you can buy kits off ebay does all the interior lights. Number plate are led i believe so are rear outer bulbs. There are loads of spoilers on ebay roof, boot lip painted or unpainted. There is a trd one on which is a larger spoiler also. Real carbon fibre as well. I know people who have bought the painted ones, for different model cars. And they are a brilliant finish and match for existing colour. Red is an exception and also pearl white. Is yours the 1G1 silver really light if so same colour as mine. I just bought some Team Dynamic 1.2 in Anthrasite. Absolutely transformed the car. Now getting 27 around town in pwr mode. Also fitted new Goodyear F1 all round quiet is an understatement. Are your wheels scabby its a known fault with them? Crap materials i bought 4 new ones when i purchased the car. They are heavy wheels thats for sure. Car should have had fuel pressure sensor gasket, and there is an airbag recall at the moment all free i might add. https://forms.toyota.co.uk/lexus-recall-checker. Just put your reg in.

  10. Don't the DRLs dim when the headlights are on. If so the car may think the headlights are on even if they are not.

  11. Have not been on here for a while as the car has been impeccable and beyond 2 tyres and an oil and filter change does exactly what is says on the tin (so to speak), a very happy Mrs A for sure, she's already planning for the 400h in about 2 years time. I've been distracted with alfa romeo's, more character but less reliability.

  12. I use Spotify via bluetooth on my LG G4. I need to have the app on the front screen of the phone playing or paused for it to work. Sometimes it will play anyway without having the app on the front screen but then does not show the track details.

  13. Out of curiosity, after filling up a couple of days ago, I put the car into ECO mode before a 30 mile cross country drive. Fairly flat, B-roads/country roads, light traffic, within the speed limit, but leisurely pace. The car definitely felt a lot more sluggish (relaxing?), seemed to rely on the hybrid system a lot more, and sounded a lot quieter too. Amazingly, the readout showed 36.2MPG when I got to my destination. Not sure I would do it again though, too much of a compromise. As I said, economy is not my priority and if it was I would have bought a different car. I'd find it a shame to spend my money on a RX, and then not enjoy its performance!

  14. Hi, I can't remember exactly what I did. Could have been the car battery. I remember that we changed the battery at some point. You can have a word with Lexus. They are very helpful. Hope you find your answer soon.

  15. Thanks PCM all sorted, car came back on Wednesday. Dealer has put almost £1k into the car. I will have ruin his Monday as the main window switch panel on the drivers door is playing up again, this was identified prior to sale and was swapped out but whilst I can open the rear windows from it I can't open the passenger one. A new one is about £700. it remains a very relaxing car to drive and Mrs A is delighted to drive it.

  16. If they sent you a video of the work that needed doing how can you assume they're fishing for work? The video serves as evidence of the problems does it not?
