  1. seeing it's our beloved gold members that pay for the bandwidth - let's keep this to gold please
  2. The legal term is "Errors and Ommissions Excluded" often shortened to "E & OE" which means that even though they've made a mistake, if you owe them, then you owe them. You'll probably find the "E & OE" on the bottom of the invoice / receipt / contract. If it was a genuine mistake on their part, and they take you to court, they are guaranteed to win.
  3. Could it just be the difference in speed between upload and download dsl - even on most 2MB connections, upload is only 128K
  4. Ignore what goes on on the screen. Services, 4, 0, 1, select. Now the installer menu appears. Same goes for all Sky Digiboxes. ← got the special secret menu, but still no 'housekeeping'...............i therefore assume its either: sky+ planner rebuild or full system reset............... and do i have to have a special handshake now? ← sorry mate - planner rebuild defrags the drive and recalculates free space etc. there's no need to format the drive (and no option to either)
  5. it's gonna be the discs mate - they seem to warp very quickly on the GS. I've tried a few different ones, I'm using Mintex now and I'm pretty happy with them
  6. If you do a "services 401 select" and then select "housekeeping", the box will do a disk defrag and reset the capacity indicator properly.
  7. Yes mate - it's perfectly legal - you have to buy the Sky+ box and therefore own it. Aido - I upgraded the fan on mine to +12v and to keep it "always on" too - as bigger hard drives can make more heat. The standard Sky+ fan isn't big enough to cool a large drive properly.
  8. I saw Albert Lee live a few weeks ago - awesome - hailed (apparently) by Eric Clapton as the best guitarist in the world.
  9. You can borrow foriegn map CDs free of charge from Lexus - call customer services
  10. I got some very nice stainless ones from here:- linky
  11. Have you thought of supplimenting your income by teaching / training others? Loughborough University run an Automotive Engineering degree course - I bet they'd bite your arm off for some of your knowledge.
  12. If you would like some help producing a business plan to see if it's viable, feel free to PM me. I have a gut feeling that sticking to geometry on it's own pay not pay enough to cover your costs and make you a living.
  13. It's the brake caliper - the floating side can rattle if it hasn't been packed properly with grease. It's harmless (if annoying). I'll delete your other post.
  14. If the water could make the taps live then it will also earth them to the nearest bit of copper pipe, which will be bonded :D ← providing that the earth bond is still in place of course... ← which it is - thanks guys
  15. The REN (Ringing Equivalent Number) value is to do with the number of phones on the circuit mate, not the number of points. A domestic installation supports a max REN of 4.
  16. Apparently it's a common / known problem, and only happens when it's hot. Needs the whole steering column to be changed, had mine done on warranty.
  17. I have a plastic bath, and the mixer taps are connected via plastic pipes. The copper pipes below the plastic section of pipe are earth-bonded (to the central heating system). Should I earth the taps???
  18. I'm off to see it tomorrow - can't wait!!
  19. Thanks guys I got a fibreglass repair kit - I can get some on the outside - and I've got some epoxy for the inside - it's a tiny hole so I'm hoping that I can seal it without too much trouble. I'm very keen to avoid having to remove the bath
  20. My fibreglass bath has been chipped and is leaking - does anyone have any advice about how to seal it please - it's a very small leak (just drips a little when bath is full)
