  1. sorry but id go for the discovery all day long anyway ( it does take 3 seats in the 2nd row ) and they are superb all round
  2. HPI checks not that expensive - 3 for £20 including a gaurantee up to £10,000 if car isnt what its meant to be after youve bought it when i got my disco in july
  3. Definately a good link - just been looking at 18s on there for my disco,,, very interesting and competative
  4. might be worth seeing if "autoprochassis" on ebay lists a nice cheap alternative on ebay if a last resort
  5. as the guys say mate, could be time for a new car !! once they rust you may cover it up a bit but that kinda problem allways returns,,,,your next car will probably rust eventually as well unfortunately cos thats what cars do a lot is rust - try and be a bit more picky next time you look around but in truth it is very hard to find a good un - or you could of course patch it up a bit and carry on,many do as the saying goes,,better the devil you know- good luck mate
  6. i think thats a good idea rajesh - also unfortunately thinking ahead in case the box does need reparing/replacing it might be worth your while going thru loot/friday ad etc to find someone with a flatbed truck to move it on from lexus to the specialists you mention - half hour on the fone now might save you a few quid later on. i cant see what else you can do really apart from get the car fixed as its not going to get much being sold with a duff gbox or for scrap
  7. rejesh you had the car repaired recently after an accident - if there were damaged pipes leaking autobox fluid from the accident it would eventually ruin your gbox as fluid runs out - might be worth a check for signs of leakage from auto box radiator pipes etc-you might have cause to complain about the repairs which were done
  8. lexus gave good advice tbh - many things would stop it driving ie low fluid- you need to get it looked at before deciding
  9. hi,sorry to hear this - if all else fails theres loads of is200s cw gearboxes at bridges scrapyard-its not a part ive heard fails very often so should be ok with a 2nd hand unit-type "spares galore" in search box for details of where they are - i dont know what they would charge for a box but as the cars are mostly complete id try and get them to start the donor car first and give it a whizz round the field before spending time and effort taking a box out - your probably looking at £400-£500 just in labour to take a box from one car and put it in another so still wont be cheap - might be worth having your box reconditioned or looked at by a specialist
  10. ive used lexus brighton and usually found them pretty good - i presume you dealt with peter the service manager who has the last say on everything - as you say 30,000 miles and £1200 (not £200) is possibly worth a moan - i can reccomend an excellent mobile mechanic who services my friends is300 - another mates subaru wr1 as well as numerous other high end cars owned by friends as well as my discovery - he is based in brighton but comes to you,pm me if you want his no and ill pass it on to you
  11. i seem to remember one of the regulars on here had his ecu reflashed for about £500 if my memory is correct some time ago - deckie maybe ? - so it is possible to do it - the ad reads really well to me in all respects except the price just seems too cheap !!!! why would someone who has spent years developing this software suddenly start selling it so cheap ??? maybe they have a terminal illness and wish to make some fast money ( in which case they wont be around to offer the technical assistance spoken of ) -- imo if you can afford a gamble on that amount of money and are quite good with pcs and cars i think it could be worth a punt - could make you very popular on certain forums as well as better off financially - especially woorth a punt if you yourself have no master key ---- ID CHECK AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE BEFORE I PLUGGED MY ECU INTO ONE THOUGH
  12. only the obvious ,,,,, has it got any petrol in the tank ? could be a faulty gauge/sender unit
  13. you are correct tango of course but the op started this thread in january so hes already been thru one lot of snow armed with this answer and either didnt take the advice or wishes to improve on it - not sure which tbh
  14. i saw a front wheel drive renault drive up a hill which was iced up last year - only 4x4s were getting up it - lots of "failures" parked in a heap at the bottom - so can say tyre socks work well on ice with fwd,, not sure how effective theyd be on rwd but not expensive so worth carrying for emergencys
  15. ian have a look at stavs wheels - rx8 5 spokes, very handsome and easier to come by
  16. 5nowy is300s arent that rare its just most people assume theyre 200s when you see em about as bodystyling is near identical apart from badging and extras - only thing to look for in an ideal world is satnav and a factory fitted bodykit like whiteys one - apart from that its just a case of choose your colour as the 300 does come with just about everything
  17. the 300 is really everything the 200 should be - i dont know any 300 owners who dont/didnt love their car with a passion and get repaid with a thrill everytime they boot it
  18. mbay you havent posted up on the subject for a while-hope you are ok and have contacted/informed the police of the accident as if they dont know about it they can hardly investigate or take statements - even with legal cover im not sure if this is a job your insurance co would be in a position to do - make sure you keep a record of incident/accident no and officer in charge (oic) jenko your point about the bike highlights what happened to me - i was on a bike - i went into the side of someone doing a manouevere from nowhere - i went over his car the hard way - i was at fault for presuming he wasnt an idiot - it hurt phsically and guttingly financially
  19. well spotted rory - hows your car doing, got a bonnet yet ?
  20. sorry to see this mbay - i think in the battle of 50/50 you will lose as effectively you were coming from behind,HOWEVER WITNESSES TO PROVE THE GUY PULLED ACROSS YOUR LANE WITHOUT INDICATING WOULD COUNTER THIS - i had someone do the same kind of thing to me when i was on a motorbike many years back and it was a painful lesson - i would hound the police by email and make them acknowledge when they have taken any witness statements-keep the details of the officer dealing with its name and badge no safe - sorry i couldnt be more help,,at least no one was hurt
  21. you can get touch up paint from lexus toyota and ebay- colour magic chipstick is just a wax crayon really so not a permanent solution
