  1. Having been the victim of a car jacking, and having the car quickly recovered thanks to Tracker, I would have to say I never felt the same about the car. The only upside was that I was able to strip mods and get some cash back. I traded the Impreza in and got the Lex. Incidentally, the insurance were automatically going to scrap my car until I asked why. It had a burned out clutch, keys were missing and gearshift had been damaged when they tired to break the barrier deadlock. I think damage was approximately 1500ish, yet they would have opted to pay out. they repaired the gearshift, replaced the locks, replaced the alarm, and put in a new clutch/flywheel.
  2. I was always under the impression that the S didn't have the OEM amp & only six speakers. I am mounting two 8" subs in the rear deck, again to try to retain as much boot space as possible, and keep it stealthy. I will post pics when done :) Not sure how it will sound, if it proves to be crap I will have to rethink. Probably use stealth type boxes and mount them to the sides of the boot
  3. Hello mate, sorry for not replying sooner. Yes, you're right, lower the number, thicker the cable, higher the current rating. 4 gauge is good to at least 100 amps, so you should be fine. Terminate the 4awg at your distribution block, then use 8awg to connect each amp. Running cable is easy. Remove battery and make a tiny incision in the rubber grommit in the bottom right corner as you look where the battery sits, feed the cable through here, if you look nder/behind the glove box, you should see cable come through, looking up towards the base of the a-pillar. Simply pull up the trim panels and drop the cable in and run down the side of the car. If you gently pull back the seat near the top, you will see a hole giving you access to the boot. alternatively if you remove the seat, there is also access lower down, this was the one I used, and ran my speaker cables through the upper holes.
  4. I'd be interested... Tracker Horizon is the GPS one, I have the Monitor on my Impreza, police found it in about 30 minutes :) Would have been quicker if he helicopter had been available. I'd be interested, depending on price etc..
  5. Will it clear a supercharger?
  6. Just make sure the cable can run enough current. If you put in some 4 gauge you are good for 100 amps
  7. Sorry to hear about this Dave, best wishes.
  8. Will let you know if I get my tester out before your mate does :)
  9. Did you find out what the five connections were? I'm figuring that illumination will be one, earth, power for the 'on' light, and presumably too and from the relay? Just thought someone might know and save me having to get my tester out... I know, I know.. lazy git :)
  10. Cheers Zee... do you know the thread size of the adaptor needed?
  11. I have just received my nice new gauges, and want to know if anyone has a recommendation for the best location for the sender units. On the Impreza I fitted the Oil Pressure sender on a T-piece with the original OEM sender, can I do this on the IS? Again, on the scoob I bought a sump plug which was pre-threaded for the temp sender. Is there a recommended position for it? Thanks in advance for suggestions/help Edit: Forgot the obvious, can someone confirm the thread size for the OEM Oil Pressure sender switch, and the thread size of any aperature suitable for the temp sender?
  12. If you were to add an aftermarket amp, you'd be aswell installing all your own speaker cables. The rear 6x9 speakers are actually four speakers, two woofers and two tweeters. The Woofers are 2 ohms, the tweeters are 4 ohms, so unless you had a suitable amp you would have problems driving them, not to mention as Matt mentioned, the Lexus amp has built in crossovers, running the speakers 'active' rather than passive. You would therefore need an amp which had the same features, have a head unit which had crossovers or use a seperate electronic crossover so that you only drove the woofer with the correct frequency band. The midbass and tweeters in the door are 4 ohms each, and are again run actively. You'd be aswell to consider replacing the 6x9s with aftermarket units instead too to get the best out of replacing the headunit and adding your own amps (presumably two four channels, as I have never seen an 8 channel amp). There are a few of us going down this path. I have run my own cabling, and wiull be running two 8" subs in the rear deck hopefully, with a 3way active setup at the front. Fargo, RazRankin, Mr Singh & Brettster are a few of names to look out for, as these guys have a lot of expereince with in car audio
  13. Mr Rankin, you still want those baffles? I will be making up mine in the next week or two. I have been busy dynamatting ;)
  14. GPS systems do calculate position based on signal strength to particlular satellites in geostationary positions. Its a very lower power signal, and your GPS 'receiver' in your satnav does not output anything to be recieved. The original Tracker Monitor was based on radio signals, and used triangulaion to calculate position. I think the new Horizon system uses GPS signals to calculate its position then trasmits this data via radio wave to Tracker control.
  15. I will let you know/have a listen once I have finished the install Brett. If you EQ the system properly allegedly they sound the muts nuts
  16. Cool, which did you go for? I'm putting Phase Linear Modular Amps in mine, and having run my own cabling. Putting subs in rear shelf and going three way at the front with Mids in the kicks, and ID1Pro horns under the dash
  17. Err.. what does built in cross overs have to do with the loading? That means you can run the drivers 'actively' rather than using a 'passive' crossover. The amp would still need to be 2 ohm stable to drive the woofers, or could result in overloading
  18. Thats not an RS200 its an AS200.. it has 2 litre six cylinder same as UK IS.. not the four cynlinder trubo charged car
  19. no they are not, thats the issue. The rear 6x9s are two seperate speakers, the woofer being 2 ohms and the tweet being 4 ohms. Thats why you can have problems driving the original speakers if you are using the headunit amps or amps which are not 2 ohm stable. The resulting overload can blow the amp... so its not just simply using the existing wiring/speakers.
  20. Its all in the wrist getting it into reverse ;)
  21. Greenlight Insurance might, they are similar in approach to Adrian Flux
  22. Forgot to add, nice choice of subs.. they're really going to kick with 1500 watts running through them!!
  23. Have you taken a look a www.mp3car.com ? There are a bunch of guys on there undertaking similar ventures, where they are interfacing their computers with the car systems to control AC and other functions. I was contemplating this for my carputer, as I had considered linking in to the cars ECU for engine data to be displayed. Nearly all modern cars have an ODB II interface which can be linked to a PC. Go have a look on www.mp3car.com, you might find the answers you are looking for :)
