  2. The two main reasons are the rear ones atleast are badly designed with a blind slide bolt design and awful rubber boot which is fiddly to get on, and the second that most mechanics including lexus technicians arent very thorough and don't do things properly ! As far as Im aware greasing the slide pins with silicone paste or appropriate lubricant isnt part of their service itinerary, which is why they tend to seize up. If you can successfully refurbish the brakes one time and just periodically grease the pins every 6 months to a year you should have trouble free brakes EDIT: Binh from the US has a good video on the rear calliper slide bolt maintenance thats worth a watch

  4. Hello all, I've been looking at Lexus IS for a while now. Going to see a 2013 Premier with 66k on the clock and looks like it's in good condition. Is there any red flags I should be aware of, what sort of condition would the hybrid battery be in now that car is 11yrs old? Many thanks😁
  5. This ^^^^. Having looked at all the DIY and a few professional fixes, I have reached the same conclusion. At the moment I only have the driver's door to do, and when this fix comes to the top of my "things to do" list I will get a fresh blade and give it a try. Then get some of the de-chrome vinyl strip used for wrapping/blacking out chrome trim, and see how that works. Even better would be to find someone local who wraps cars. Go to see them carrying a box of beers and get them to apply the strip of vinyl 😄 Cheers...
  6. Interested to see this installed and your verdict.
  7. Well we took a 2 hour test drive and I have to say the LBX is a lovely car to be in and drive, smooth, quiet, responsive and very refined. But - had to be a but - my wife could not get comfortable in the passenger seat. Tried it every way and found it was most comfortable at its lowest setting, but then too low to see anything! After much scrabbling about we found that as the seat is raised the rear of the seat rises more than the front so it begins to "slope” downwards from back to front, you then lose support along your thighs and behind the knees. Couldn’t find anyway to adjust the tilt of the seat to compensate. The test car was a Takumi trim with an electric drivers seat and on that as well as raising the seat you can also tilt the squab to maintain support behind the knees. Great for the driver but not available for the passenger. So sadly we are reconsidering our options, booked a test drive in the new Mini Countryman so will see how we get on in that. Incidentally how they can call the new Countryman a Mini escapes me! It is longer than a Qashquai which is hardly mini’ish. Probably end up just keeping my Skoda Yeti as this rate!!
  8. ….have received a most appreciative note from NRRArchives ! they were thanking us, as a Gang, for increasing the number of View’s of their video ‘ ‘Danny and The Juniors’ - ‘ Rock’n’Roll is here to stay’ by a staggering 12.000+ View’s in just 21 day’s ! 😲😃 well done, Gang - like them, I thank you for your continuing to support viewing this fine, 1958 early Rock and Roll performance - surely, in the day, talent at it’s best ! 🤔☹️. anthony
  9. This is what happened to me. And the coolant leak manifested itself as liquid around the condenser pipe and the bumper area like Rowley posted Friday
  10. Quite surprised it’s only 100% Malc
  11. So I believe. I was going to get them when I had my 250. Still considering them for my 450h actually. So what would a brake improvement involve on yours? Going to ISF brakes?
  12. According to the Service history my 2018 RX had the fuel pump replaced as a recall.
  13. My May 23 car looks the same. As John, no issues with that.
  14. Hi Stephen, we had a dealer fit, Lexus approved, tow bar fitted when we bought our RX last year. We use it with an Atera 2 bike carrying rack that we have adapted to carry our tandem. We toured France last year and it was secure and quiet. You do need to disable the rear cross traffic assist otherwise the car slams the brakes on which is a tad disconcerting 😏. Also the blind spot monitoring system could “see” the bike and was flickering like crazy - so, another assistance to disable.
  15. I would like to think that we will get more than 27,000 miles out of all 4 tyres but as you say - we will see.
  16. They are usually a similar price to the tyre fitters. In addition they will be responsible if there are any TPMS issues.
  17. I'm going to get a wheel clamp and/or a steering wheel lock
  18. Calling IS200 experts! 2000 IS200 is dumbfounding mechanics with over revving issue. timing belt changed vanos unit changed throttle chamber cleaned out vvti solenoid has been checked Current mechanic (Toyota trained apparently……) has had car for 2 weeks now and has had a number of differing opinions as to why the car is not running well - losing the will to live and worried about his bill……… Any words of wisdom would be most gratefully received! Thanks
  19. Yes, that's a quality unit but there's other companies doing similar for a bit less: https://www.innerwolf.co.uk/dog-transport-crate/ Then there's TransK9 who supply the police with their dog crates: https://transk9.com/ something similar from dogboxuk: https://www.dogboxuk.co.uk/product/db304-single-transport-cage/ Finally, of all places, B&Q do them! https://www.diy.com/departments/dog-crate-single-transport-box-black/4260182874318_BQ.prd That's for a 90cm x 54cm detail in plan view The B&Q one looks good and is by far the least expensive of those options
  20. Yes it's a 12v battery. Just a starter battery to get the engine going. Like I say it's not going to cause any long term issues if it's been replaced as it was probably a dud in the first place. These things happen and as long as the car is fine now just keep it.
  21. As above one was recovered from a container bound for Dubai. From what little I know the cars are stolen to order then shipped overseas either whole or chopped into big chunks eg the front end with engine and suspension still attached so unless the evening’s shopping list includes an LC along with the usual half a dozen RXs I think the LC could be classed as low risk comparatively speaking. That doesn’t stop me worrying that my bumper will get ripped off the car though, or the car vandalised when they realise an immobiliser is fitted…
  22. The Which? magazine website has a useful guide to Consumer Rights. It looks as though the website will also help you draft a letter of complaint if necessary.
  23. My temperature and fuel gage stopped working. It was working and I haven't driven the car in a month and have had 2 rainstorms. Went to drive the car today and the gages aren't working. 2006 430sc
  24. I was informed by an air con mechanic its best to keep the system running permanently for longevity. Just a tip for the future perhaps. 🙂
  25. Hi everyone have eventually fitted new top control arms front and back, plus coil over suspension. Taken about 5 days around other nesscary tasks and compulsory overtime at work. Rear top control arms are not easiest to remove or fit. Rear subframe has to be lowered as only way of getting to bolts hold control arm. Had to resort to using angle grinder to cut bolts off 🤔 as heating bolts wasn't working. Bushes where smoking badly. Having a fire at back of car would not be helpful. Replaced with stainless steel bolts with a film of copper grease to ease possible later removal. Ride is very good compared to air suspension. Need to soften rear springs a bit. Hopefully later this week I will have lightweight rims and tyres ready for fitting. It is good to be behind the wheel of my LS430 again. 🙂
