Typical Tell Tell Signs

Right I have no idea, how many models and trim codes there are for the IS200, but can anyone clearly with confidence clarify how to distinguish between all of them?

List the differences or comparisons one should make, to figure out what the car is, without looking in the log book?

I'm referring to stuff like the rear tinted windows on the sport. Gearboxes? Wheel sizes? Lights? Body? The slight differences that Lexus have made from the factory to distinguish the different models on the market.

:)

Basically....

S: will have 16 inch wheels.

SE: 17 inch wheels, sunroof, better interior, heated seats

Sport: same as SE but with, tinted windows with Sport logo, small lip spoiler, slightly lower.

Thats how i remember it!

S : No sun roof, no headlight washers, no leather/alcantara ....... and 16" alloys (though that can be changed)

Sport : -15mm lower, rear privacy glass, metal kick plates, LSD (but that you can't see) - oh, and they only come in manual.

SE : Pretty much all sport has, apart from LSD, Privacy Glass, Metal Kick plates, and the SE also comes in AUTO.

As the others have said, the only models you could have diffculty telling apart are the SE and Sport, as people do buy SEs and then fit the sports pedals, scuff plates, spoiler and tint the windows (and some even put the sport stickers on the rear windows), but obviously this is not that likely :winky:

Thanks everyone, now i know what to keep my eye open for, when i see them on the road.

Looking at the specs, why would anyone buy an S? Is there a huge price difference?

Also did the SE ever come with LSD? and how important or much of an improvement do you get from having it?

Excellent replies guys, by the way.

The S is still a very good car, if your after the quality and reliability of a is200 then S,SE, or Sport, they are all as good as each other, it just a choice of trim, wheels and driver pleasure (Auto/manual ).

Buying an S ,then add the SE/Sport wheels make good economic sense if your on a tight budget :)

There is a good reason for getting an S.

There is a £3000 price difference between a new S and Sport. Obviously this affects 2nd hand prices too tho prob to a lesser extent. I bought a 2nd hand S that was newer and with a lot less miles on than I could have afforded with a Sport.

I wouldn't have used the sunroof and with kids I wasn't bothered about having to look after the leather.

Anyway mine now has 17 inch wheels that I really like, tinted windows that are darker than on the sport and with the other tweeks too I've got just the look I want and I've spent a lot less than £3000 modifing it. B) :)
