Completely Agree! The fuel cost at the moment is rediculous!!!

In Rochdale, Supermarket petrol is 91.9p and Optimax is 99.9p!

I really can't afford to have to keep filling up at those prices. I only put Optimax in...

I have seriously been looking at the BMW 330d which I like as a package since I can get one for a similar price to what my car is worth and I'd have 0 - 60 in around 7 - 8 secs and 42mpg. But I just can't bring myself to do it and I probably wouldn't anyway.

With the cost of petrol so high the governement definetly should reduce their tax on it - but that is just wishful thinking.

Keep hearing rumers about fuel blockades and protests..... anybody know anything?

actually, on the flip side - this would be the perfect time to buy if you were after a TVR or some other gas-guzzling beast... as i'll bet a lot of owners are really feeling it at the moment!

in that case may as well get LS 430 then ! :P

Fellas, stop bitching over the price of fuel......it is actually cheaper (in real terms - do you want me to explain that one to you?) since crude oil was first refined.

It is even cheaper (in real terms) than during the petrol "crisis" of the 1970's

Either:

1) Put up and shut up. You knew that the Lexus was never the most economical car when you bought it.

2) Buy a fuel economic run around for those trips into town. Our Starlet gives 45mpg and isn't troubled by speed bumps.

3) Sell your Lex and ude the proceeds to buy either a public transport ticket, or (2)

4) Travel by foot or bike

5) Write to your MP :tsktsk:

Not looking forward to getting mine and having to fill up. The tank was only half full when the car died, was thinking off keeping her off the road now and only using her a few time a month, anything to keep the feul bill down. The prices in MK are 101.9 for BP Super and 96.9 for Unleaded. It's going to cost £68 for Unleaded and £72 for Super    Think I'll stick to the Fiesta for a while longer.

Bad news is that petrol goes "off" sitting about so if you don't "use it you will lose it" :crybaby:

this email was sent to me last week --

PETROL REVOLUTION INFO FOLLOWS.....................

We are hitting 95p a litre in some areas now, soon we will be faced with paying £1 a litre.

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy petrol on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.

BUT, whoever thought of this idea has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read it and join in! Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea:For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP. If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of

Esso and BP petrol buyers.

It's really simple to do!! Now, don't wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!! I am sending this note to a lot of people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)... and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people.

That's all. and not buy at ESSO/BP) How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8days!!! I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.

PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 69p a LITRE RANGE

It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your petrol at Shell, Asda,Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrison's Jet etc. i.e.boycott BP and Esso.

I've stopped using BP and Esso for what its worth.

There's another thread somewhere on why that's a waste of time. The petrol stations are franchised so you mainly hit the individuals running them, the petrol comes from the local refinery (eg Total) regardless of the name on the petrol station (eg BP) etc etc

thats just silly, because we drive lexus's, we can't complain? some of us think the price of fuel is rediculous, but have no desire to sell up, we'll just use the car less, and continue to bemoan the price of fuel.

5 Months should be enough to pretty much kill it.

What happens is the volatile elements in the fuel evaporates so it won't burn. Won't harm the engine it just won't run properly if at all. Very common in old motorbikes that get laid up for a while.

petrol at £1 a litre

stella at £2 a litre .......dont hear many complaints

LOL! Nice one Bazza.

TBH,I do remember the days when it was like 60 odd pence a litre, but on the other hand, I would asume most of us are reasonably well off (driving a prestige make for starters), and that £1/litre for petrol for us, is gonna be a lot "cheaper" to those that can only afford a cheap little old banger type car... (even if their MPGs are better!). :duh:

I noticed on the news this morning that they are threatening to start blocking refineries again from Sept 14th unless the gov reduce the tax on fuel whilst the current crisis is on.

The govs response was that when the US get New Orleans sorted we should see a reduction in prices then.

I think greed sets in - 17.5% VAT of current prices is a lot more than 17.5% VAT of what it was a year ago, the gov can't lose.

I have no problem with the oil companies and the prices they are currently charging but I do have a problem with the goverment tax added on to the price of fuel.

THe goverment is morally weak and cowardly by hiding behind the cost of fuel and trying to blame the oil companies.

Why didn't they just bump up direct taxation and leave the fuel costs alone. they did it because its seen as an easy way to fool the masses.

the real question are you willing to see a increase in general taxation if they reduce the fuel duties and a possible welfare reform.

I personally feel I have nothing to lose I feel I am in a position where I don't get any benefits as I like the rest of us work and have a few assets ( which the courts can use to penalise me with eg broke dolies in a rented accomodation don't have to worry about loosing anything)

I reckon the goverment are taking maybe another £600 off me a year in tax through the fuel duties
