Changing Air Filter Is200

I wanted to change the air filter on my SE Navigator to a K&N but cannot find any info in the handbook on how to accomplish this task.

Is it fairly strightforward for a novice mechanic like me to do?

Also does £35.99 sound a good price for a K&N filter?

You unclip the section of the plastic box ontop of the engine that has the (L) logo on it. There's a clip at the front and a different one at the back. Once unclipped just pull that section up. The filter just drops into it. It really is very easy.

Thanks for that mate. I was 1/2 way there then! :D

Did adding the K&N filter add any extra power? or make the engine smoother?

Not a great deal increase in power -maybe a little and the noise is only different when "digging deep" for power - and not much at that. Iwas expecting better and was dissappointed TBH.

thats the reality! just changing the air filter isnt doing to provide a noticable power difference ( if any at all)

supposedly, it will last while have the car atleast, so its a saving of about £17 every service, so its still worth it.

Lads, how do you clean the K & N? I didn't keep the instructions when I installed mine................. what do you wash it in? I seem to recall they recommended some K & N stuff for cleaning but surely there is an equivalent?

Car in for service this week so want to make sure they clean my filter and not just chuck it in place of OEm one?

Advice?

Yes, there is some solution you get from K&N .........

Cheers Scarface (at least my memory hasn't failed me ............yet)

Anyone know what this K & N solution consists of? Is there an alternative? (Had a bit of hassle getting the filter so can anticipate same hassle getting fluid.......any Halfrauds alternative?

Not as much as I thought it would. Still get the lovely kick back in the seat feeling at 4500rpm...smoother yes! I did replace the filter just after the 100000 mile service so the Lex is running as sweet as the day it came of the production line.

Just tell the dealer to exclude the air filter ......... that way they wont touch it, and wont charge you for it either !

I got some filter oil off eBay for about £1.75 + P&P......the bottle should last a couple of washes (about a year then!).
