  2. Yes Newcastle - the LC500 was an approved used car. black with black, on a 68 plate. lovely thing, in very good condition too. Little short on headroom was my only complaint. Felt a little quicker than the GSF, was extremely comfortable and drove much better than expected.

  5. My recently purchased UK LS has a severe leak into the boot. So I dried it out, parked it facing uphill, bought and used a car cover, while I travelled for a couple of months. Unfortunately I uncover it today and the swimming pool is back! I purchased the seals direct replacement before I left and added it today, so fingers crossed it works enough for me get it dried out get the other work done.

  7. Interesting. When I picked up my car last March, having ordered and paid for the protection pack there was none fitted when I took delivery as they hadn't received them and didn't bother to tell me. The rubber mats were delivered to my home 3 weeks later. The mudflaps arrived and were fitted a month later. I still haven't had the bumper protector fitted because they have to send it away to a body shop to be fitted and they want to keep the car 2 days to get it done. I really haven't got the time to faff around taking the car back again what with the recalls and everything else. I really think Lexus have lost the plot and customer service has steadily gone downhill in the last 3 years. Only my opinion but based on poor experience after previous impeccable customer service.

  11. Further update, according to the app my new car has gone into build today. So that’s one month since placing the order. I’m estimating, a month to build and two months to arrive, so still looking like June

  13. Toffee, It just does not matter what arguments are brought up your answer always seems thesame, a rant about the batteries followed by full blown conspiracy theories. In this way a balanced discussion about the topic is just not possible so i am out.

  15. I presumed that the article by ‘Paul’ at ‘Critical Sway’ that you offered as evidence would provide the answer to this vexing question. Having read it, my conclusion is….. Philanthropist. So let’s have a look at that article. Before ‘Paul’ even discusses Gates he proceeds by describing the actions of Al Capone, who actually committed acts of both philanthropy and criminality. He introduces his Gates’ item by writing: 'Men and women, guilty of varying degrees of overt criminality, have long understood the value of the philanthropist’s playbook. Let’s take a look at a modern-day philanthropist - William Henry Gates III.' This is known as ‘Guilt by Association’. However, in the 1600 or so words that follow, he does not include ‘crook’, ‘illegal’, ‘criminal’, ‘criminality’ or even their synonyms. He even fails to provide any examples of ‘overt criminality’. In fact, 'Paul' makes no allegation of criminal behaviour by Gates of any kind. At one point he states: ‘I'm not begrudging another man's financial success. ‘ And yet that’s clearly what he is doing! In simple terms, it seems that the fact that Gates is continuing to make money overrides the reality that he is also giving much of it away. But there’s nothing illegal about that. What seems to inflame ‘Paul’ is that Gates is being given credit for his acts of philanthropy but not getting any poorer! In fact, many would say that it is the making of more money that provides the opportunity to indulge in philanthropy. After all, if charities were forced to rely only on what the likes of ‘Paul’ could donate, I suspect they would be facing very lean times indeed. Let’s take an example with which you might be more familiar. You have on occasions cited The Guardian as a source. So presumably you regard it as reliable, authoritative and independent. And yet – as I have observed before – The Guardian freely acknowledges and enthusiastically welcomes the decade-long financial support that it has received from Bill Gates. So….is The Guardian the complicit recipient of a crook’s largess, or the grateful beneficiary of a generous philanthropist? You decide.

  16. It's horses for courses and thank goodness that we are all different. My choice of model was the best for my circumstances but that doesn't make it the best choice for everyone. Likewise for the charger; most of the time, I charge from the domestic wall socket and it suits me fine but every now and then I really appreciate my wall box and being able to turn my car around in a couple of hours before going out for the evening. Certainly not an essential bit of kit in my case but in different circumstances or with a different vehicle, it could be.

  17. Another excellent post Bill. Sorry I had to laugh out loud with the last line. It brought back a TV programme I, and possibly you, watched some decades ago. Citizen Smith: Power To The People 🤘

  18. My 2012 IsF had the same issue and was corroded around a mounting bolt. The Lexus garage just put a bigger washer on the bolt and it was fixed. A year later and all still OK, MOT etc - all good. A new heat shield is over £100 but extra large turkey foil from Aldi is only £3.

  19. The full part number you want is 35970-50110. This site is not showing discontinued/unavailable like many others https://carmarka.com/en/toyota-housing-assy-35970-50110 or these people in Dubai https://toyotadxb.com/spare-parts/toyota/housing-assy-3597050110/ However, you may have to resort to breakers or eBay to find one.

  20. When the engine/gearbox mounts go, there can be a more direct engine/gearbox to chassis coupling which leads to greater transmission of vibration to the chassis. Since the LSes are so quiet, even a minor change in the state of the mounts can cause this. One of the guys on the US forum complained of an increase in engine noise in his LS430 and when he swapped out his engine mounts there was very little rubber left in them and on one side the mount had completely separated.

  22. I am a fairly recent convert to Lexus and the joy of owning such a fantastic car . Very soon after I got the car I joined this forum which made me aware that Lexus is a very special brand with lovely owners who have all sorts of opinions on cars and everything else but one thing in common is a love and respect for the brand Condolences to you Sarah, Margaret and all the family.

  23. This is Sarah Williams, John’s daughter although I think you all knew him better as Roy of the Rovers. Thank you for allowing me into the group and for all your messages of condolence which are hugely comforting at this very sad time. This community was an enormous part of Dad’s life and was very very important to him. As his health deteriorated and he couldn’t do much physically he spent longer and longer with his online friends. Being able to contribute to the group and help people out with their cars brought him so much joy - not least because his own children would regularly disregard his advice and buy totally unsuitable cars which he would then have to chastise us about! My husband (his son in law) has a mini. You can just imagine what he thought of that 😂. my mum, sister Liz and brother Andy and I are all keen to hear any stories you might have about him and find out more about the time he spent in this community so please do share your memories. We would be eternally grateful for them and they will help us get to know a different side of the totally wonderful amazing once in a kind human being we called Dad. I thought you might all like to see a photo of him - will try and share some of him with his cars in later days. if anyone would like to know about the funeral let me know and I will share details in here once we know. The staff at his local Lexus dealership have all said they are coming so I think we might need to arrange a Lexus procession to the service!

  24. Nice one Herbie! Learnt a few things there for future reference especially about the aircon regas. I'm no DIY mechanic! Other than changing bulbs that's it! The rest is at my local dealership Lexus Birmingham. I'd be too apprehensive to do anything else! Your explanation is why I think joining LOC is a must for all Lexus owners to help increase their knowledge of ownership 👍🏽

  25. Ok... what I mean is that continuing incompetence is not strictly an "austerity policy". As I said I generally agree that roads and to be honest everything else is not becoming better, but it is more of issue of corruption, laziness, incompetence etc. than it is a well thought out policy. At least austerity had a clear and measurable goal (that was reducing budget deficit), nowadays we are increasing deficit, yet we still don't spend anything on any core areas of economy. Saying it is anti-democratic thinking kind of implies that we live in democracy, which I am sorry to say but we are not. And I do agree that the "western way of governing" is still the best way that human race ever had, but it is kind of far from being actually democratic, or even representative-democracy. I personally would describe UK system as parliamentary-dictatorship (also known as elective or executive dictatorship) and it is very evident, simply said our supposed "representatives" do not represent shaite - they get elected and then they dictate what they want to do, not what they were elected to represent. Let's now look at the tactical voting... okey... what is out goal? to bring down Tories? Sure that may work and what is next? Get Labour in? What is going to change? We going to have another 15 years of the same shaite and then we do some tactical voting and bring Liberals in... and what that achieves? Tories and Labour already woke enough. My point is - it is not about ruling party, they issue is more fundamental, our system is rotten from it's core, there are no checks and balances, the elected "representatives" faces no consequences for lying, no consequences for corruption, even outright crimes. They are literally above the law... okey maybe they not going to get away with murder or rape, but apart of most extreme crimes they can get away with pretty much anything else. Most importantly for democratic system - they can promise things and never deliver and with first past the post they still getting back into power, despite not delivering anything and usually only based on maybe two topical issues of the day... which they still don't resolve. Simply said - there are no consequences for anything, so why do we expect them to do right thing?! Basically I am saying it is naive to believe they are there to represent anyone but themselves and their own interests... it is called "politics" for a reason - nothing good ever comes out of it.

  28. I made the move last year for very similar reasons to yourself, although the decision was mainly driven by my wife who wanted a smaller car. She always found the RX to be a bit on the large size for the narrow country lanes around where we live. I would pretty much agree with your assessment after your test drive with the exception of your “a little slower” view, I find the NX450h a little quicker if you take it out of eco mode. The tech still has some limitations. Overall my preference is still the RX for the reasons which you state but the one big upside of the NX450h is the much better fuel economy, even in petrol only mode on long journeys. The 4cyl engine is not as refined as the 6cyl one in the RX but it isn’t far behind and is still much more refined than most 4cyl engines. However, the CV box does seem to be more refined over the 2018 RX we had.
