  1. I would also add that this thread has been heavily moderated. Posts have disappeared yet posts are still being quoted by a certain poster. If you want to read a balanced debate on the issue of speed - then clearly you won't see it here !
  2. The rule of law is based on rights and responsibilities? Where did you dream that one up? As you quite correctly pointed out it is legal to cycle on the road, not just technically legal...but properly legal (not withstanding roads where cycling is banned) Now please point me towards this thing on rights and responsibilities that make road users that don't fit your imaginary law illegal ?
  3. What you fail to understand is that you should drive to the road conditions. That could be the layout, the weather or a multitude of things. Nothing will change that and as a result speed is indeed a factor in many accidents or collisions as they are referred to now.
  4. I have this engine in my car. Its a lovely engine without doubt and was enough for me to migrate back to BMW. To put this in an IS would be the perfect package but knowing Lexus I doubt it would come on sale in the UK . Reliability wise, its been proven extremely reliable but knowing German tech I doubt I will be able to say the same ten years down the line. The only issues of note have been a slight loss of coolant reported and reports of the oil filter disintegrating (some blaming BMW service intervals for this) . People are modding the hell out of it, tracking it and generally abusing and it seems to be holding up well. I thought Toyota took a risk on using it in the Supra but only time will tell.
  5. Wow I posted on this thread nearly 10 years ago and we are still none the wiser, I'm just 10 years older. Despite having nearly everything changed that could be changed it was still knocking when I moved it on.
  6. I had this with my 2015 IS a couple of years ago. I was told that the manual was downloadable (which it was) but its still not the same.
  7. As above. Perhaps they are worried about the practicalities and running costs of something they know very little about. I agree it can hurt. I remember buying a few cars back in the day that might have seemed a bit odd with a young family but I got support from my in laws and I still remember that now. Do you have another car, a runaround or similar or will it be your daily driver. You sound like an enthusiast or you wouldn't have stumbled across this car . Explain that it will be a safe / reliable car. I bet they would change their mind if you took them out in it. Its a head / heart thing that I still go through now that will only be satisfied when I eventually get that RCF. 😉
  8. That's Interesting but hasn't really been my experience of buying cars for the last decade or so and trawling the dealerships.Lexus rarely move on screen price either on a straight cash deal but you will often find a finance incentive and if there isn't one they will go out of their way to find one (even if it isn't officially listed as such) I'm a cash buyer but finance is king nowadays. I've secured much better discounts by opting for their finance then screwing them down on the deal or part ex. I then pay the finance off as soon as I can and usually within the cooling off period. The finance route will open magical doors for you, they would rather you take out finance than pay in cash and that's where the Incentives tend to be on negotiation.
  9. As above had stretching around the drivers seat bolster after 15k on my IS. I would have raised it as a warranty issue if I hadn't sold it.
  10. Spot on. BMW alone sell thousands of six pot petrol engine vehicles in the UK. I'd wager sales of 3 litre petrol engines aren't far off total Lexus sales in this country. There is a market out there. Why Lexus are ignoring this sector or just pretending it doesn't exist any more is a mystery but has been debated on here for years (with frustration for some) The fact Toyota lumped a BMW B58 straight six and gearbox into the new Supra is all telling .
  11. I have no idea but as I explained it was part of a multi car policy with my two daughters. I guess its offset against the other policies although to be fair I absolutely scrutinise each quote when it comes to renewal time. I've just updated an online single quote and without being part of a multi car policy its coming in at £200 with £150 excess and protected no claims. The car has now gone but my current car (a new BMW 340i) is coming in at £100 more when I do a quick online quote although cost to change for 6 months was nothing ?. I always, without fail call them come renewal time. Its amazing what someone on the phone will do to keep your business.
  12. I'm struggling here slightly. Are you hoping to get this resolved without telling your Insurance company and just dealing with theirs ? That will not happen my friend. The Insurance data base is linked and once you supply your details to their Insurance company your Insurance company will be on your back asking why you have not informed them of an accident. You will find as part of your policy that you're obliged to tell them of any accident / Incident . As suggested tell your Insurance company before they found out and let them deal with it.
  13. There are far too many parameters for anyone to draw a meaningful comparison. Age , occupation, post code etc. I paid £170 fully comp for my 2015 IS last year, however it was part of a multi car policy along with my two daughters and I'm pretty sure the price was offset against a slightly more expensive premium on one of those two, although I can't confirm. Prior to that I was paying roughly £200 for 3 litre BMW and my cost to change back to new BMW a few months ago has simply been an admin charge, so no increase. Every year the price increases but I just get another quote online, ring them up and they reduce it back down.
  14. apologies I edited as hit the keyboard in error (No vino involved in this malfunction) but yes that was my point.
  15. I've just moved from a 3rd Gen IS (IS200t) back to BMW (F30 340i.) for my sins - I've had two Lexus and two BMW's since 2007 . I've been back and forth twice and its getting a little expensive . The previous move from BMW to Lexus was two years ago. Performance is night and day different as to be expected with the BMW and the reason I went back -again. Auto gearbox in BMW is sublime as is the straight six. Build quality - both seem similar but the forums will tell you otherwise- read this forum and you will see IS faults are as rare as rocking horse poo, unlike BMW . Cabin noise - as above, F30 shades it on the motorway, wind noise on passenger side of IS above 60 ish worth listening for. Infotainment / Sat nav- BMW by a country mile - if this is a thing for you it could be a deal breaker. Cabin : prefer Lexus although not much left leg room, it feels quite compact for a tall bloke. More room in F30 in rear. Looks : prefer the Lexus at some angles but its obviously subjective. Alloys - IS are soft, really soft - softer than cheese (the hard cheese) Boot space - Both practical within reason in that the seats go down - Important to me but not enough to buy an F31. Air con / heating : Lexus warms up very quickly but I could never get the temp right. One part of me was always hot or cold. Reliability : No issues with IS (or my previous BMW's) - there I've said it but wait - I've got a 3 year warranty 🙂 Dealers : Mixed experience with Lexus since 2007 - no issues with BMW / MIni (two minis in the house) To get a decent feel have a good read of the forum. Its pretty quiet because not much goes wrong with the IS its fair to say so it has to be an excellent choice (along with your monthly saving)
  16. What are the symptoms ? I'm just looking at @Malcs post above in this respect. A transmission drain / flush by an independent should be quick and cheap. Codes are quite indifferent in their meaning, often they will simply throw up anything if there is a change in the viscosity of the oil for example. Will Lexus charge you for the diagnosis , I guess they will.
  17. In the dim and distant past I recall a change of transmission fluid did the trick....don't quote me on that but worth a go first and foremost.
  18. 150 'exhaustive' checks but the inability to stick a multimeter on a battery......😉 Obviously my dig goes further than a battery of course . I wouldn't have raised an eyebrow if the OP had paid several grand less and purchased his car from anyone other than this mockery of a scheme that really doesn't deserve the name 'approved'.. Glad the OP got sorted
  19. Did it cost you ? Hopefully it didn't @scudney and @jackcramerr I appreciate your laugh at my expense but Lexus should not in any way shape or form be selling an approved used Lexus without basic checks like this. The problem is that they do, people get mugged off and people like you condone it. 😉 As I said I hope he didn't pay a penny.
  20. That plate WTF 😉..must be worth a bob or two Lovely car...lovely garage as well
  21. Can I just add that a Lexus dealer selling a 9 year old car with the original 10 year old battery is a little bit out of order ...
  22. Thats a decent innings for a battery...nigh on 10 years If they are fitting and disposing of the old one then yes go with the Lexus price for the sake of saving £20 elsewhere. I've ordered several from here...next day delivery and decent prices. (they also sell on ebay where the prices are cheaper) https://www.tayna.co.uk/
  23. I think they are trying very hard to stick to a set way of marketing and selling their vehicles. Some Lexus dealers can pull it off, some are sadly lacking. I personally think its a little outdated. I'm not sure I agree about the best deals being with cash. Nowadays its all about finance and cash is almost a dirty word. Most dealers make the bulk of their profit through finance...(although I've just seen the open mind bit to alternates and agree - ie finance 😀) However In that respect Lexus have traditionally offered competitive finance rates across the range. Do Lexus UK actually make a profit I wonder ?
