  1. Snow tyres would help, but it's a combination of rear wheel drive, auto box and the sheer size and power. Although its been some years since we had any real snow on the West Sussex coast.
  2. The LS is a real nightmare, even just a forecast of snow gives it a slippery back end. I drove mine in snow once, never ever again!
  3. I thought it was only the UK that came to a standstill with a millimetre of snow!
  4. It's Lexus price. The "rebuilt" ones were £75. You may do better buying from the States. There are some used ones on eBay for £75 but for the work involved I would want to fit a new one. Have you tried the Lexus eBay shop?
  5. Sadly it's not that easy, certainly no easier than a 400 and will need a new motor. A bargaining point though? Facelift will have 6 speed. I was under mine yesterday having a good look as I replaced the rear pads (easiest job ever) and it looks so good for its age. I think good history is more important than mileage and year. Mine came with full Lexus history which gave me more confidence. Both look nice.
  6. Got mine 4 weeks ago with two stickers.
  7. That'll never happen again! And the same colour as well. Just don't bother with the lottery this weekend, it can't happen twice to one person....
  8. The earlier LS400 was repairable, sadly the later one isn't, and that unfortunately goes for the LS430. There was someone on eBay claiming to sell rebuilt ones for the 400, but I'm afraid it may be dig deep time, the motors are around £300 I believe. Or you could just set it where it's comfortable and disconnect it.
  9. It's not really. The cam belt replacement is all at the front, whereas the starter is all at the top. I think very little is removed from the top to make it worth doing the starter at the same time.
  10. Lovely car, although too scary for me to own. Interesting how apart from the rear section you can still see something of the early LS in the side view.
  11. It's the same with every model, there are always comments that get the hackles up, it's just not worth it. All Lexus models are fine cars, we should just agree on that instead of the "my dads bigger than your dad" thing.
  12. I don't know why you can't just all agree that any Lexus is faster than walking! I thought the LOC was for helping each other rather than making abrasive comments.
  13. I had the privilege of being taken for a spin in Philip's IS today (roof down and up). What a fab car. My first time in one and I was most impressed, it oozed quality!
  14. It's always interesting to read about the comfort of other models not being as good as the LS. In all honesty I've not driven anything, even very modern that comes close. But then it was always their flagship which had ridiculous amounts of money put into it. I wonder how the very latest LS would compare in terms of comfort compared to a 20 year old one. I can't see how it could be much better unless a pair of robotic hands massaged your shoulders!
  15. That's a great system for parking etc but I meant more like my system where a light blinks on either door pillar to warn you of a vehicle/bike etc approaching.
  16. It's that sound that even the people sitting downstairs hear!!
  17. Don't Lexus fit blind spot cameras on any of their models? My Volvo has them and they're brilliant.
  18. I found the Denso blades suffered from bum in the bath syndrome almost immediately, but the Bosch ones are silent and fit well.
  19. I had Denso wipers last time, hopeless in my experience. I then changed to Bosch when Eurocarparts had a wiper sale. £11.50 for the pair, brilliant wipers!
  20. You're as bad as my wife, she'll spot bad grammar, typos and incorrect punctuation from a mile away. It's a daunting experience typing when she's watching over me! And now she's got me at it!
  21. My dog loves lying on the back seat of my LS! Not the most practical car if you've got dogs though, so probably the right decision. I bet you'll be back though!
  22. Glad you got to the bottom of that one without the need to spend money. It's surprising how little it takes to run a battery down. It means you can afford to get me something bigger for Christmas now!
  23. That's certainly true. I changed just one and it looked so different I had to change them both. I think the Lexus eBay shop do them for a decent price, as do Halfords. I know you can get really cheap ones, but as fitting them is awkward I personally would fit some decent ones.
  24. I need some rear brake pads, has anyone bought the mintex ones and found them OK? Or maybe Pagid at about the same price?
