Throttle body might need a clean but as I said earlier Capacitors a possibly clue. You may want to go on to the clublexus site and look at thread "all my crazy Lexus issues solved" which suggests Lexus over twelve years old should check its Capacitors. OK it suggests also that if the Car won't rev out to beyond, or less than 2000 rpm, that this could be the cause. Your car is twenty years young, so.............

I will be most interested to read members opinion on this situation. I don't think I've ever reached 5k revs but when I get to the point of Overdrive kicking in and expecting a smooth drop in revs I do get a splutter and seemingly no change. For this reason the Capacitors are to be changed when the damp weather improves which on my much earlier car may be the reason??

I fitted the below on the basis that I was going to convert to LPG and they are supposed to run hotter. Two years on I've had no problems with them but as yet I've not installed the LPG kit - maybe soon. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/8x-Lexus-LS400-4-0i-y1989-2002-Brisk-YS-Silver-Lpg-Petrol-Gasoline-Spark-Plugs/371047599637?fits=Car+Make%3ALexus&hash=item5664290e15:g:OXQAAOSw-wJZ-9Dc

I'm using "Stop-it" which I've no idea how old it is as I got an unopened bottle for a £1 at a yard sale. Its Stop leak and Conditioner for Power Steering. A straw coloured liquid. Having replaced the washer below the reservoir tank )which is a bind to get too, believe me! and it still seemed to leak a small amount I've just topped up with this stuff. I'm lost very little after the last 1600 mile drive, but I can't say its stopped it altogether so will keep adding. Whats to lose if the P/Steering unit needs replacing or servicing which is going to be costly. I used some of the Lucas stuff (maybe a cupful) in my last Merc Gearbox after the radiator connection to the pipe rusted off, outside the Rad I was relieved to find. It was the same colour as the ATF fluid. Didn't notice any problems but always tricky getting the level right.

I did a little experiment recently having similar Beige seats the drivers side having Crackiere. I tried it on a seperate piece of similar leather to see if the idea was any good. Not yet tried it on the car I hasten to add. I used 50/50 PVA / Water diluted, and an artists brush to the cracks to firm up the backing. Wiping off any surplus. It left no trace of white colour and seemed to leave a good surface for possible colour addition with flexible paint. I did it primarily to stop the crackiere getting worse.

That timing belt may be overdue for replacement. I think six years is the period or mileage. I'd be tempted to leave alone as it is a costly job. If the belt does go, then get another Car might be best option. The belt taken off my Car looked in very good condition but I had no history with the Car so don't know if it was original or changed briefly before I bought it.

That a lovely looking Car and to my eyes very modern in its design (well I'm not keen on the latest Grilles on Lexus). Very envious. Someone said to have a Sunroof would be the icing, but head room i suspect is even lower than an LS400. I have to have an anti-static bag velcro'd to the headliner to stop my little amount of hair rising and creating a spark when I get out of the Car to fill with Petrol. Sunroofs or Moonroofs get very little use in the UK I would think? I rarely open mine and as a Car gets older the drains start to break up, etc, etc. Also, good they ditched those seperated lights on the boot which personally I thought as weird. But Beauty as they say...

This older one should have appealed to you Colour wise Phil. Pricey and I've not looked at the MOT history. Are they not a bit thirsty in comparison to the LS range? My prevoious S320 straight six was far more thirsty than the two 5litre V8's I owned as I recall. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-GS-300-3-0-auto-SE/323003009416?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D49129%26meid%3D651c8f68875d4d1a82bffdec2db7912f%26pid%3D100623%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D122802054605&_trksid=p2047675.c100623.m-1

It does seem to be becoming a habit drawing attention to Cars for sale. I don't recall it happening on a daily basis when I first joined. Makes me wonder if members are actually satisfied with their vehicles or want for change? Personally I seem to keep looking at C and S class Mercs even though I know that other than seating comfort (not made for small Jap bums) and Cabin head height, the period I'm looking at has the dreaded Rad, Air suspension and Rust issues. Then I come to my senses though this car has cost me a packet and still has issues. Leaking p/s , Caps when weather improves. Rusty drivers side wing - too expensive to get a new replacement so will be a bodge with filler, which probably won't make me happy. Better the devil so hey ho!

How noticeable is it when the Car slips into Overdrive, presumeably by the time you reach that speed? Is it smooth or jerky?. I've not gone up to that speed as I think I have a fault with overdrive which may have something to do with the Capacitors. Just too humid to take out the box in this weather as I don't have a garage I can get the Car into. Well thats my excuse though I've set out a workbench for the job. Four different soldering irons, wipes, cue tips, Isopropyl, bicarb, flux sticks etc.. Its the only noticeable issue I have with the Cars running, so I'm unable to have the occasional "lad" moment on those lovely French roads between Orleon and Limoges at 2.00am in the Morning, when I'd quite like to give it some Welly.
