  1. Perhaps the time has come. Mine is going into the dealer next Thursday, so will ask about it when I am there.
  2. Well, have a look at this: We are definitely in the minority here age wise. However, I think that just shows that we have developed wisdom at a younger age.
  3. Poor thing definitely could use a clean Is that Windsor Blue? It is the best colour you know. New windscreen? Also, are you replacing the whole sat nav unit? It is going to be interesting to see how it looks after you do the mods.
  4. Welcome Kevin Yeah, they are not the most economical cars out there. A mix of town and motorway driving gets me between 36-38mpg on average. Although if the previous owner did so few miles, I am not surprised your car was a little clogged up. I afraid I can't comment on the remap personally, but I have heard that it improves matters somewhat. You do need to make sure that it is a dual system that includes boost control though, not just fuelling. Oh, and any pictures you can share with us?
  5. Clean looking car you got there John. Some interesting modifications you have mentioned. I look forward to seeing how you get on with them. Do you have some engineering experience then?
  6. I too would be taking my car with me if it was anything like that That is a seriously nice ISF. Although, are you prepared for the shock of fuel prices over here? Certainly won't cost you £6.5 to fill your tank like it does at the moment.
  7. I agree. Although I like the sentiment of your post Roddy, I wouldn't go around freely admitting I did 130mph on a UK road. Also, you did 26 hours non stop?
  8. Excellent news Always nice to hear about good dealer experiences. I can't remember where you bought it from?
  9. I agree John. I personally think it is madness to service a car only once every 20k miles or so. Yep, it has been a while since I have heard of a chain snapping. In the case with my friend, the chain stretch had worn out the sprockets on the cam gears as well, and it had jump a tooth or two, causing a misfire. Still, it wouldn't be a huge job if the chain can be removed from the front without having to remove the engine, unlike the affected BMW's.
  10. Thanks for the info. Always nice to hear about good indy garages. I had a rear caliper replaced at my last service too, luckily under warranty for me. Shame considering how reliable the rest of the car is.
  11. I am sure the others would help if they could Ok, I have had a dig around the manual and have found the switching valve. It is located here: Funnily enough, this is one step in replacing the fuel filter. As for that, you can't get to the fuel and sediment filters from the wheel wells. When mine was done, it required a lot of laying on your back and swearing! This is where they are located: Hope you have a better time of it than I did. Mine was in a right state when I got it out:
  12. I didn't actually mean the position of the chain contributed to its failure What I was bemoaning was the fact that it meant taking the engine out to change it rather than just the front timing cover.
  13. Welcome Aaron. Unfortunately, there is no way to know if the mounts have failed without swapping them out. I had mine done because I was getting a bad juddering when pulling away. Even after taking them out, the technician told me they looked fine. However, it did solve the problem, so they probably failed internally. To make matters worse, the sub frame has to be dropped down to remove them. I don't suppose you could get a video of the car making the noise? It is notoriously difficult to diagnose noises without hearing them. By the way, do you mind telling me who the specialist in Droxford is? It is about 40 minutes away from me. Thanks.
  14. Glad you got yours sorted in the end Azza. This is really frustrating because it has been stated in the past in no uncertain terms that previous service history is irrelevant to the warranty, and the only requirement is that it is serviced by a main dealer during the warranty period. So many people are getting conflicting information during claims these days. Although it sounds - in your case at least - like someone came to their senses and realised they made a mistake denying the claim. Did you car go through a visual safety check prior to the warranty being offered? I ask because it sounds like your head gasket was at least partially failed before the warranty started?
  15. What other fuse did you use? The relay requires a specific resistance to work properly. The resistance is as follows: If that is fine, then it is recommended to check the fuel route switching valve, but it doesn't tell you where it is! As for the fuel filter, it is such a bugger of a job that I wouldn't be surprised if it hadn't been done for a while, if at all.
  16. A friend of mine has a 2008 118d BMW that had this timing chain problem. What drove BMW to install the chain at the rear of the engine is beyond me. Anyway, his car also needed a new dual mass flywheel, 2 injectors and engine mounts at the same time. Total bill was £4500!
  17. Very nice. If I am being totally honest, the rear F Sport badge doesn't do it for me. The rest is spot on though. Now, go find somewhere to take some pictures from further away.
  18. Welcome. According to the manual, it is located here:
  19. Hello, All Lexus is220d's have a DPF fitted. There is no specific warning light for it because the car uses a generic light for all faults. The engine management light will illuminate, and the centre display will say 'Check VSC' if a fault occurs. Based on previous cases on here, it does sound like a 5th injector fault. Might be worth checking with a dealer since it is possible it can be reprogrammed to cure the problem. A good run on the motorway is a good idea, especially if all it has done is town driving for a while. Between 15-20 minutes at around 2000-2200rpm should get the DPF nice and hot. DPF's and EGR valves really are the bane of modern diesel cars, not just IS220d's.
  20. Welcome MadCar. Lexus did acknowledge that there was a design fault, and extended the warranty on the engine. Unfortunately, the extension only covers the engine to 7 years or 110k miles. However, it might be worth taking up the case with Lexus UK directly. There are plenty of examples of people getting the work done free on this forum, albeit quite some time ago. (If you do a search on Google for Lexus is220d head gasket, this forum comes up first in the results). Still, you have nothing to lose by trying. I am surprised you have had this problem though; It has been a while since we had one on here, so it seems that most of the effected engines have been replaced by now. If Lexus still refuse to play ball, then it is probably worth finding a local garage that can do the work, since it would most likely be much cheaper. Good luck.
  21. £850 excess! Have you tried lowering it to see how much the premium increases? I have found that in some cases, the rise in premium price is no where near as much as the drop in excess.
  22. Always wanted one of these: Perhaps go full 80's excess and get the AMG version:
  23. £2500 a year? I remember those days. You must really love your car.
