  1. Don't know about anyone else, but to me this sounds like an electrical problem - like there's no power going to the unit. Have the fuses been checked? Has there been any work done that may have interfered with the wiring?
  2. I've noticed key problems if I have the key in the same pocket as my mobile phone.
  3. Is there any reason you couldn't fit the same tyre size all round? Doesn't the GS version run the same tyres front and rear?
  4. I've had my IS250 for just over six months now and my driving is mostly town with a bit of A road driving. Now I remember being pretty pleased with my new motor when I first got it, but then I had come from an old battered Ford Focus. Having become used to the fairly quiet drive of the Lexus, the most annoying noise for me is tyre/road noise. On all but the smoothest/newest surfaces, I find the noise quite intrusive. My tyres are currently Dunlop Sport. I have read others comments that seem to suggest that tyre choice can have a big influence on road noise. I'm due to change to winter tyres soon, and I have a set of Vredstein Wintrak Extreme to put on that I'm told are very quiet. So we shall see. I think also it makes a difference if you are on 17" or 18" wheels, so it might be worth posting which you are running on
  5. Damn! I live pretty local to you, and I've just bought a set of alloys with winter tyres. I thought I'd got a decent deal but "free" trumps that easily. Still a very nice gesture and I wish you good karma :)
  6. This looks like what you need LEXUS IS220d IS250 BOOT LINER FLOOR CARPET STORAGE http://r.ebay.com/CkK9Hz (note: it does look like it's got a crack along the left front edge)
  7. Once, when I took my car to one of those hand car wash places, one of my sensors stopped working after being subjected to enthusiastic power washing. I only noticed it at the time because they were walking around the car drying it and one of the sensors didn't beep. They gave it a quick blast with an air line and it has been fine ever since.
  8. Hi Norm Welcome to the loc If you look in the IS220D/IS250 section there is a stickied post by @is200 Newbie which is the most comprehensive guide you could wish for. There's also lots of other posts and topics worth reading through in that section so you will be totally clued up before parting with your cash.
  9. Passed my test April 1974. Had a couple of minor scrapes and bumps in the next few years but little since despite being a field based IT engineer doing around 30,000 miles a year. Been driving on private insurance since 2010 and I have 8 years NCD and I now do about 10,000 miles per year. Shocked into getting alternate quotes after a renewal for over £600 landed. Now insured at just under £400 but I still think this is too much.
  10. I think he said £700 in an earlier post I think a mention of the supplier would be useful to others in the same boat.
  11. I suspect you will need to live with the mirror or look to a breakers for a replacement as I wouldn't think a non-dimming version is available. Navigation disks are expensive from lexus but can sometimes be found on ebay for £80 or so. I think the newer disks just have more up to date road information and that the look'n'feel of the nav system is unchanged (including the inability to use full UK postcodes), but if you've owned two IS's before you'll know all about that. My IS is a bit creaky at times (in the mornings especially) which I suspect is worn suspension bushes. Will probably need sorting at some point.
  12. I think I might have an issue with my rear brakes. Just got back from a half-hour drive, noticeable heat from rear wheels, alloys were cool but you could feel warm air around the wheels while the fronts were cool. The rear discs were hot to the touch.
  13. Sorry, too easy to slip into the 'jargon' 'Patch cable' is just a term for a network cable with a plug at both ends. 'Crosstalk' is interference between adjacent cables which are carrying the 1's and 0's and the physical design of an ethernet cable is specifically arranged to combat this, otherwise the speed of the data transmission will reduce. I agree with John, use the standard round cable if you can and go for cat 6 for future proofing.
  14. Cat 5e is rated for up to Gigabit speeds which is currently as fast as most domestic setups will be capable of. Cat 6 will go up to 10Gigabit so it's potentially future proofing. Not sure that flat ethernet cable will meet the standards for crosstalk especially at cat 6 specs but Maplin sell a 10m flat white cat 6 patch cable for less than a fiver. You should be able to snip one end off to feed it through the wall and then re-terminate it afterwards
  15. Lexus brochures are available in PDF format online and will detail the various model variants and options. http://www.lexus.co.uk/owners/your-lexus/#PastLexusBrochures The SE is the base model, followed by the SE-I and then the top model is either the SE-L or F-Sport where the main difference is the Leather (SE-L) or Alcantara seats, and bodywork styling and sports suspension on the F-Sport. The SE-L and F-Sport are Auto, the SE and SE-I can be auto or manual. Multimedia pack with SAT-NAV/Reverse camera with/without up-rated Mark Levinson stereo is an option on all models. There was also an Advance model which I think was an SE-I with the Multimedia Pack as standard but I'm not sure about the specifics. Buying from a Lexus dealer and taking out the Lexus used warranty deal is well worth considering for peace of mind. You need to have the car serviced by Lexus as this is a condition of the warranty. I don't know if the IS200D has the same sorts of issues as the IS220D but if you're a high mileage driver they are a cheaper option. Personally I think the IS250 is a fantastic car and you will probably be very happy should you choose to buy one. Good luck with your search.
  16. I'm currently looking into insurance renewal, I thought this survey might be of interest. I'm currently with the number 1 and while I agree that they're an excellent company to deal with, my renewal quote is more than twice the price of the cheapest quote I've had using the comparison sites. http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-news/driver-power/92312/best-car-insurance-companies-2016 I want to have some confidence that I would get good service should I need to claim, but not at any price.
  17. Looks like I'm going to have to shop around for insurance, just had my renewal quote for my IS250 and they want £630!, this is with 9yr NCD and 10,000 SDB annual mileage.
  18. Can't offer any expert advice I'm afraid and a quick search on here and the US forums hasn't turned up much at all, suggesting that it's not a common issue. The only suggestions I can make are to see if an OBD reader throws up any error codes or maybe to think about doing a AT fluid change. The car looks to be in very good nick so I hope you manage to get it sorted out.
  19. Cheap runabout for wife and kids, keep the IS for Daddy :)
  20. Back on topic then (fish tanks? pah! :) Seriously though, I hope you find a way to keep the IS-F especially after all the hard work you've put in. Congrats on the Baby front although your life will never be the same again.
  21. I believe this is what you need http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Clear-Lacquer-Car-Paint-U-Pol-Clear-1-Aerosol-450ml-/281188107275
  22. I think a dashcam is a good idea, and I have one installed myself. A cheaper model without GPS but it seems to do the job. I think some insurance companies offer a discount if you have a recognised brand installed and the NextBase fits the bill. However, based upon a recent experience I had with Halfords replacing my car battery where they were amatuerish at best, they wouldn't be my 1st choice. I am sure that a professional installer will charge more than £30 but you get what you pay for as the saying goes.
  23. It would be unless a UV protectant clear coat is applied. I've had mine done recently and currently they look OK - I wasn't impressed with the guy who did them. But he did apply a UV clear coat so I'm hoping they stay clear for a couple of years.
