Hello Everyone

I know Im going to get some backlash from asking this but....

Should I exchange my IS200 for a Type R?

As much as I love my IS200 it just doesnt have the kick I want, I would love to give it a turbo or get the is300 but I just dont have that type of money. And the type R would more or less be a straight swop for a much quicker car (in price), but will I miss the comfort, luxury and rear wheel drive 2 much and then theres the down side of boy racers wanting to race me all the time in the type r.

So over all does everyone think its a good idea or bad one to swop. Im really am at a knife edge on this one.

all commenets welcome im willing to take some stick

it depends what you want... the IS and Civic are very different cars...

The Civic has an excellent chassis, and is the best scrabble wheel drive car i have driven - and apart from the torque steer (which is very bad) its a fanastic drive, but no where near as comfortable as the IS...

the Hatchback will be more practical, but as you say, except to get every Tom, Chav and Muppet to try and race you...

I know what you mean mate. I was considering selling the IS to get a Skyline GTR, just wanted something faster. But opted to keep the IS (for the time being).

If you cant bare to get rid of the IS then why not put an s/c in it?

You still wouldn't be as quick as a Type R mate, although I've had some fun when the car was working right, but then on the way to Scotland one killed me, but the car was running about the same as stock then :(

You're looking at around 3k fitted I believe for the SC to be fitted.

Accelleration is officially 2.2 seconds faster I believe, from something like 9.5 to 7.3 - the official PDF can be downloaded here:

but also remember acceleration isn't everything there is no accounting for taste, the maestro turbo did 0-60 in 6.7s about the same as a type-r, would you get one? or with the civic, do you really want a car that has a gearstick on the dash. look for an altezza rs200 0-60 in 7.2, slightly slower but so much classier.

I associate Civic Type R's with knackers!!

Civic's don't stink do they

All depends what you want mate, if you want speed and you're not bothered about luxury, go for the Civic, if you want a bit of luxury, keep the IS, mine has a few mods now and to be honest luxury is out the window with the coilovers, different ride again to a standard car!!

actually, as silly as it looks - it is the most natural place for it to be... seriously take one for a spin and you'll be surprised...

I'd go for a scoob then lol

I've had all 3 (Took delivery of a brand new civic today)

Seriously tho' you obviously chose the IS for a reason. I Loved the look of them when they first come out but always thought the speed was lacking, so dismissed them. I then found out about the Altezza and as much as it was quick - to keep it on boil was the driving experience, as on many occasions I was left embarrassed as I was caught unaware. The civic is easier to drive quick, a scoob easier still! I would wait for the new civic if I were looking for a civic. Any reason why the civic type R? as it is a big change really as the IS is more of an exec car as opposed to a hot hatch. I think an altezza would be a nice alternative or even a supercharged IS.

Curious.....

Type R is mental, a friend has one and it is fairly quick, and fun to drive, but once the novelty wears off, you are left with a small hatchback.

Also bear this in mind.... Have a guess what everyone thinks, as you wheelspin away at a million revs?

Surely you don't want people calling you that?

We've had a couple of supecharged IS's in our place over the years and to be honest, they aren't very impressive - maybe nearly as quick as the IS300, but without the torque, and torque is what you want.

The IS 6 cyl block is just not a good basis for tuning, sure it has a strong bottom end, but the whole breathing of the cylinder head is too restricted and doesn't lend itself to tuning, well not without considerable expense.

The RS motor in the Altezza is a real beauty - they used that motor in the privately entered touring car a few years back as it proved much easier to tune than the 6, it is lighter and has a much better head and valve trian.

Still, pulling all those revs just to go quick will always make you look like an idiot, just no way around it.

Here's one to upset the apple cart.... if you look hard enough, and avoid the auto trader, it's amazing how much 911 you can get for your money these days.... :mat:

Depends on what you want to spend, but £10 - £15k gets a really nice, well looked after '85-'89 911 Carerra with loads of performance, it will harldey depreciate at all if you look after it, it is a true classic car, has loads or street cred, and thanks to clubs and specialists, doesn't cost too much to run.

Look in the back of 911 world magazine, or Classic & Sports car etc, etc.

Avoid the auto trader that is full of 26 owner, 113k miles (yeah, whaterver) modified scrap metal.

Don't get me wrong, it's just that 'little euro fuzz box' cars that only go quick at a million revs are just so, well, chav... Sorry if I offend anyone. It's just that driven quickly, they just give the wrong message in my humble opinion.

If it was me, and fuel wasn't so expensive, I'd be in a 60's muscle car for sure.

But it isn't me, and fuel is too expensive, so I'll stick to roller blades. :whistling:
