Knocked Off Bike Then Nearly Run Over By Police Car

Thank you for all the kind words in the (message from Tony thread) in particular Scarface who managed to decipher my garbled message on Wednesday.

What happened?

I was approaching a dual carriageway in the fog and ice Wednesday evening at about 20mph just off a bend in the road. After the bend i could see a Police car (blues and two's) traveling on the outside of the opposite carriageway, the car in front of me couldn't decide were to go, it moved left and right totally panicked so i stayed in the left lane............ Then the car in front pulled left hitting my front wheel slamming me to the ground.

Now sliding out of control i was in the path of the on-coming Police car, this swerved to the left and i hit the car feet first on the drivers door, rotated i hit my right side chest/ shoulder then bounced back into the left lane.....With immediate attention by the officer i knew i was not seriously hurt.

Since the Police car was involved in the RTA the road was closed and the Inspector was called to the scene, this was dealt with whilst i was in the ambulance... Fact is the Police car was not to blame, it was the panicked driver in front who i must add failed to stop so i am left with the repair bill.

That's it... I have some deep road rash wounds on my hip/ thigh/ knee, compressive impact injuries to my ankles, knees, shoulder, ribs and chest plate, so a little sore to say the least, but alive :D

Moral to this story is.......... Stay wise! A life changing event could be around the corner in a millisecond.

Tony.

Sorry to hear about your bike accident....you need to get that WIM Company Car PDQ :D .

I was in your area yesterday on business and was going to call in for the '1000' mile check on the 250...just as well the fog and traffic prevented a wasted trip ;)

Get well soon mate.....

hope you recover soon, make sure you take note of every pain you have as bike injurys have a habit of haunting you....

For example 90% of my symptoms were dissmissed by doctors at the hospital on the day, leading to them going untreated.... then 2 years of painful operations and ongoing recovery with over 8 dislocations due to the deformed shoulder socket.... and they are still finding new things!!

take care, rest up and chill out for a good while.... and do what i did, stay off the bikes and get in the lexus

... bikes this time of year are for looneys

I rode bikes for years in all sorts of weather from -10C, 2 feet of snow, ****** rain and sunshine, had no choice and I loved it, apart from the -10C, that was cold :crybaby:

However now I have the option, the bikes go to bed for most of the winter so kind of agree with you Noel, but I was not a looney

surely the poilice at the scene, saw what happened...yes no

The Police car i hit was not aware of the accident until she saw me sliding on the road toward the car and i was not paying attention to the make of car that hit me so it's got off scot free... My saving grace was my protective wear and the fast well trained response by the Police driver, although the Sargent did say the officer was quite shocked by the events and may be taken off-shift.

The bike fared better than me since it didn't hit another car, still done about £1500 damage though... I refused to go to hospital and leave the bike at the scene... The Police said if the brakes and lights still work then i was allowed to take the bike home, and they did :o So despite the broken panels, bent bars and so on they allowed me to ride the bike but escorted me home with the blue lights on.... People must have thought it was a low speed chase..

I take advice from the Don seriously and it was not wise on reflection not going to Hospital despite my injuries are only road rash and impact compression, who knows what may of happened internally? ..... Now black and blue down my right side all i can do is reflect on events and warn everyone who reads this thread to stay wise... Life is as cheap as chips and this simple example nearly killed me although i did nothing wrong! I truly hope the worst example for an accident in LOC this xmas is just me.

What a horror story! I am so pleased that you came out of it comparatively unscathed. I still think you would be wise to go to A&E for a checkup.

I rode bikes for many years and had a few near squeaks and still suffer from the aftermath of some of them.

I think drivers are more oblivious now than when I was on two wheels. Fewer and fewer of them have ever ridden a bike and the car-cocoon makes them more and more remote from the road.

Take care and have a good Christmas in spite of all.

Despite the £? cost to repair the bike this is my best xmas ever... I was >.< that close to getting killed... We only have one chance in life and i appreciate the extension i have now.....

The "one in a million statement" is very generous thank you but in truth we all are "one in a million".

After this incident my mind is set to get a car..... This bike lark hurts your arse... Question is though what car
