It is, isn't it? I used to think that our other car was quiet but now, er - no. When I give people a lift, one of the first things they notice is how quiet the car is. Suppose it's testament to good design and lots of sound deadening 'stuff'!

I was traveling along the other day when I heard an irritating clicking sound. You know what its like, sounds that never bothered you in other cars are loud annoying intrusions in a Lex.

After a 5 minute investigation I realised it was my watch ticking!!!!!!

Got to love the 400

Meh, it was the same case in my BMW !

I do sometimes think that there is alot of "jacking each other off over Lexis" that goes on in these types of forums

Try and deny it :shifty:

However I do admit, my LS430 is eerily quiet on the motorway.

that would be far to much noise for my Lexis :geek:

What puzzled me when I took mine out for a blast recently was that at around 80mph its only doing around 2500 rpm but when you engage the overdrive on 4th the revs increase to nearly just over 2500rpm which seems odd.

Mine is not super quiet as its running on run flat tyres at present which are a tad noisy, but I too can hear the CD changer switch between discs, I have mine set on random play. Compared with my old Mk1 GS i do miss the 12 disc changer though.

I haven't tried this yet, but would be interested to know, whether the CD system plays those compilation type mp3 discs that you can burn off the computer?

I have a '99 with pioneer audio and it DOES NOT play MP3 cds, thankfully I've managed to tap into the stock amp wiring and DIY a iPod/iPhone connection. Have a switch wired in to switch between cd changer and Iphone. Uses the main plug rather than the headphone jack too, so sound quality is at its best

hi

it wont play MP3s but it will play burned audio discs - or if you want to play music from your MP3 player or phone then the cheapest option is to buy a cassette adaptor which comes with a headphone jack - music quality is very good and it also works a handsfree kit if you get a call

Casette adaptors are cheap but audio quality is only ever as good as a tape (not great, certainly wont get the best out of our stock sound systems) and look untidy. Something like a parrot handsfree will work well for listening to ipod or mp3 player, but an expensive option!

DIY ipod hookup cost me circa £30 and 3 hours of my time with some soldering :)

Hi i got the cassette adapter for a number of reasons,

1 cost around £259 with the lexus harness, i can spend that on my other hobbies.

2 the look, don't want to spoil the clean lines of the inside with a square add on thing, seen one in a GS and it don't look good

3 hands free is of no use to me, as i don't pick up calls while i am driving

4 it's nickable, you have to take it out when you leave the car,

5 got blue tooth in the volvo i had and it kept dropping the signal,

went to Argos £14.99 great reviews plug and play, hooked up to the mark levenson great sound on shuffle job done

you guys are convincing me and I started looking at the LS460s in the market

After owning the IS250 for three years, i was thinking about changing it to the GS450... but neither of them is as quiet as you guys describe... cd changing and clock ticking.. i never got an opportunity to drive a LS or never even been in one.. are the LS460s just as quiet.. particularly on the worst bit of motorway in UK ... M25 between junction 12 and Junction 8 ... my current IS has makes a lot of road noise on that stretch and took the new GS450h for a 24 hour test drive and that was just as bad ...

any comments from the LS460 owners????

Hiya

For info, the Ls430 don't play mp3 cd's either, it will play computer burned discs either copies of albums you have or your very own compilations.

The tape cassette adapter is sweet for me, got all my albums on my ipod touch connected via the cassette, so i don't even get to hear the whir of the cd changing :innocent:

The storage bin between the seats is way big enough for the ipod and adapter so the clean lines are kept clean.

Even the wife likes it, that means she's up to sumthin in my book, or broke sumthin i've not found yet
