  1. Hello everyone. Became an LBX driver at the end of March. Fortunate enough to have a Dealer prepared to sell a showroom car which exactly met spec and colour we were looking for and therefore avoided the 3 month wait of a factory order. Early days yet and haven’t driven many miles but so far delighted with the car.

  2. Whilst I align with your sentiments regarding MG I don't agree that Hyundai/Kia are "AWFUL". Ten years ago that may have been the case but the range of cars that they produce today are at the cutting edge in terms of design and recognised as such by the car buying public who are seeking above all, reliability and value for money. I have driven various Kia models from the Picanto to the EV6 and have been impressed by the quality. Indeed I came close to purchasing a EV6 to replace my Lexus NX300h two years ago but range issues eventually overtook my enthusiasm for what I considered to be a superb car that was almost on par with Lexus in terms of build quality.

  3. I Purchased this lovely car a few weeks ago. LC500h, only 18,000 miles. Rose Red leather interior, HUD and ML HiFi. Very pleased so far. I am looking into Android Auto solutions. Has anyone fitted an MMI interface box? Paul

  9. Collected my son-in-law from a vasectomy op this morning. I think we may have a new Pothole detector! All we need is to get all the Councillors and Highways Officers to have the snip then drive them around the area. Start with the lowest paid and by the time the turn of the 'Leader' comes around the roads will be like glass!

  10. Spectacular piece of coincidence. The misfire was down to coil plug being adrift on coil 3. I am saying three - left bank 3 in facing the windscreen. Car was serviced about two months ago. So no ECU worries. 🙂 Interestingly now the radio is working the error for the AVC/LAN bus has gone. So without research I can only guess it has something to do with the Mark Levinson system bus. It has a Pionner headunit installed that I fitted about 2 years ago, but that uses a Lexus data converter so the Levinson system works as it should including the steering wheel buttons. Had a A/C DTC, that was logged as Historic but didnt show last scan. Also had two DTC for the oleft and right Solar sensors. Hardly surprising with the car in agarage 8 months of the year. Just taken it for the final test drive before handover and the Solar Sensor DTC has gone and taken the AC fault with it, so happy days. Will let owner use it for a week then plug in again and see if anything has occured. More info on the fault finding later. Thank you to everyone.

  11. The car is now running. It does however have a misfire and one AVC/LAN bus is down. All systems are up, except the radio. I will do a more comprehensive report soon. Apart from the new battery and the 140A fuse, there were nine other fuses and arc damage to one the ECU plugs. One pin to be precises must have been hit with a fair bit of current. When I took the ECU out I could smell it. I am going to scope the coil triggers to see if the misfire is a FET issue or loom/coil coincidence. I do not believe the monster reverse surge would have gone through the ECU to a coil without killing the ECU forst. On inspection it looks fine inside. Anyway I have been documenting my finds so I will publish soon.

  13. We passed a tipping point a few years ago - the majority of the UK population now get more from the government in public expenditure and tax credits / benefits than they put in. A smaller and smaller top slice of the population are paying for nearly everything. The top 10% of earners pay more than 50% of all income tax. The top 1% pay 28%. And 40p? Top rate of tax is 45p plus 2p national insurance - meaning 47% of every £1 earned disappears. And if you’re lucky / unlucky enough to earn between £100k and £125k, your marginal tax rate is *60%*. It’s a small miracle anyone still works hard and pays taxes. I am however very grateful for anyone who buys a new car - as without those purchases, there’d never be any used cars for everyone else to benefit from…

  14. Speaking solely for myself, I'm 28 and have just been given a fairly high spec new 'Vauxhall Grandland' crossover thing as a courtesy car. This only reaffirms to me that unless it's a proper, stable, large 4x4 like car - I don't want it. I drove a relatives old Vauxhall Zafira and later, Peugeot 2008 (before they got ultra stylish) and this is every bit the same car underneath, a big, empty space, van with more stylishly rounded edges, and it handles that way too. I have no interested in these 'crossovers', they are just modernised people carriers to me. Perhaps Lexus and some of the more premium / more expensive brands drive better? (Scored out more expensive, because this Vauxhall monstrosity cost the same as a Lexus UX!) Toyota going for the 'crossover styling' makes sense to me even with the Aygo 'X' and the Yaris 'Cross' / Lexus LBX. The closer they can keep it to a hatchback / lower and better handling, the happier I'll be. Cars can be 'normal cars' and still easy to get into, look at city cars with tall profiles like the Fiat Panda etc, those are very easy to get into and favoured by older people. Equally (more so in mainland Europe) young people don't see the stigma of them being old people cars as much, they're used / appreciated as flexible young family cars too on a shoestring budget. All of this SUV styling and 'crossover' stuff other than for the Motability scheme buyers who probably genuinely do appreciate the space and the ride height, I think is more the mainstream car makers forcing it on us all, because there's simply no other way to hide the batteries in the EV powertrain configurations elegantly. Now that the CT is gone and not being replaced, the LBX is probably the next model for me to graduate to down the line. If it's closer to a hatchback than a crossover / MPV, I'm happy with that. I hope it sells. Although I know a couple of people I know who drove and loved various regular Yaris models over the last 20 years test drove the Yaris Cross, only to go for a Corolla in the end up as it drove noticeably better / more refined. I wonder if the Lexus refinement solves that (albeit, at a cost)

  15. Collected my Honda E:Ny1 yesterday, nice drive home and still some battery left. Sad to leave the nx at the Honda dealer but that’s life. To rank my previous cars I would say the LS400 was best, LS430 next, then NX followed by GS300, IS300 then IS200. The most exciting was the Lexus Club events in the mid 1990’s. The Honda is superb, dealership not so good so far. Paperwork took a little time to match the deal we had agreed! Told me I could match the MyHonda+ app with my car at home, then find it needs a Honda mechanic with access to Telematics the first time. Then find the flat tyre compressor is missing from the boot. To be fair they have dealt with these issue very quickly. Likes over the nx. Really huge infomation screen. Touch screen instead of that crazy Lexus touch pad. Wireless Apple CarPlay, Apple Maps full screen top, Apple Music in the middle and dedicated air conditioning below. Genius. NO ENGINE NOISE during acceleration, just a quiet whoosh. Lights come on with fast wipers automatically. Doors close as quietly at the nx. Look and feel quality 99% of the nx. No visits to petrol pumps. Free servicing. Yearly safety inspections. Transmission checks at 100,000 miles, battery and control checks at 150,000 miles. Dislikes. Not a Lexus, I’ll miss the coffee at Lexus Milton Keynes. I know I’ll miss the attention to detail during servicing. Lexus Sheffield and Milton Keynes were exceptional. The around 200 mile range of the Honda won’t be an issue with our current needs. The RZ ev was too big and just too expensive. The UX ev too small and too expensive. Leaving mainly because our driving distances have reduced but the risk of theft has been a factor. If it doesn’t work out I’ll be back.

  16. The gov't will not intervene because they don't give a toss about us. It is gradually dawning on me that I should leave the country ( after 20 yrs in France one gets a better perspective on different gov'ts ). I just read today that Labour intend to tax us even more now that they are confident in winning they don't need to hide the bad news anymore. The only choice is to get out and live in a country that will not fleece ordinary working people - Maybe Portugal? Must do some research before we leave.

  17. I have owned Lexus cars since around 2013 Sara, with cars dating from 2007 onwards. You'll always get some person who says things like "they were better built in my day, blah blah..." and whilst certain aspects were more solidly built, on the whole reliability has improved up to a point. It's hard to say when that point was reached but ever tightening euro rules and a world decline in car sales over lock down meant that a rejuvenated car market is trying hard to woo people with changes (and some evolution) in technology whilst coping with ever tightening emissions regulations. Personally, the most solid Lexus overall I've had is my current RX3 but the most luxurious and beautifully finished inside was a 2007 model. The Regs for emissions have made engine systems more complex and some would argue, less long lived, due to greater demands placed on smaller engine units. There's some truth in this. There are other manufacturers, who are basically selling cars using disposable engines designed to last around 60K miles. Speak to any mechanic and they'll tell you the same. The hypocrisy in this against "green" targets is astonishing. Manufacturers know that ever tightening rules means there's no long term viability in designing such tried and tested and long lived motors of the 90's and 2000's; I've seen older LS400 and LS430's with over half a million miles on them and doubt modern Lexus cars could achieve similar but generally, they're still pretty good compared with the competition. The latest RX is a nice car and the engine is pretty tried and tested albeit higher stressed (being turbocharged) than the outgoing 3.5 V6 which was to my mind one of the finest engines that the Toyota group ever produced. Lexus changed their target market from the mid to late 2000's trying to capture more of the younger market and lagged in up to date technology for entertainment systems until relatively recently (perhaps up until 4th generation models). The cars made since then seem to use more plastics everywhere and externally especially. Valve covers these days are even plastic! But with that, electronics generally have been quite reliable with fewer little niggles than those made in the mid 2000's. I had a few issues with my GS3000, mainly electrical but some shocking design faults with suspension and exhaust systems resulting in limited life expectancy for those items. Engines have been solid though and dependable. Many new luxury vehicles use plastics everywhere including under the bonnet and I wonder how reliable these will be longer term. Plastic cooling pipes used by many in the cooling system for example, is not a great recipe for longevity. The interior of RX5 models is quite luxurious but a lot of it is due to the little finishing touches and styling. I would argue that my 2007 GS was probably better made on the interior and just as luxurious but without some of the modern touches. The early RX models were also pretty solid internally and were more utilitarian in design, so stand up well as the years role on. Don't worry about what other people think. If you like the car, and can afford it, buy it and enjoy it. Life's too short. Peace of mind comes from Lexus after sales customer service which remains excellent compared with just about any other car maker.

  18. Just taken possession of an immaculate 3 litre Camry, 1998, so my thoughts of coming back to another LS 400 are void- hope I’m not tempting fare here. 69K miles, amazing paint ceramic coating -apparently - plus (messi rated?) Lano sealed underneath. All I have to do is get reacquainted with the size again! It purrs, said deliverer! I’ll still be popping up on here, I’m sure. Steve2000 has a link to a YouTube vid (as I’m too Luddite to know how to post it now.)

  19. My September 2022 model is now up to 77km but this time last year it was around 70km, rising to 72km (peak of 73km) toward the end of summer. Car currently has 22,500km on the odometer. Seems it takes time for everything to get fully settled.

  22. Personally I think the missing flashlight is having a massive impact on prospective purchasers. I am therefore offering my spare one to you for the nominal cost of the postage. It does appear to be a little intermittent in operation requiring a few careful turns of the base to illuminate but does then remain on until switched back off. If you could send me a PM with your address details I will get it in the post to you suitably packaged. Unlike the majority of items sold this will have batteries included unfortunately these are not the originals 😀

  23. Alex, 4 hours of cheap elecricity charges my car to about 80%. I don't do long journeys every day any more, so that suits me fine as 2 nights of charging takes me up to 100% even with daily trips to the local shops. Interestingly, I did a longer journey today and now the weather has warmed up I achieved 48.2 miles on EV alone, up from 39 or 40 miles in the cooler weather.

  24. Finally got the coilovers on a couple of days ago. That meant I was able to put my new wheels on. I got them last week, so I spent my Saturday painting the black parts of the wheels as the factory finish is half and half. Shiny spokes with black spokes. I wasn't a fan of that. Black wheels lose all the design details and I just don't like it personally. They're factory forged wheels off the new MK5 Supra. I had to use PCD adapters as Supra, as well as probably all German cars these days are 5x112. So the specs I managed to squeeze on are: 19x9 ET7 and 19x10 ET15. Still need to roll the arches to stop it from rubbing and then I'll be able to lower the front a bit more. Only got one decent pic at the moment, but more will follow.

  25. So after having sorted a new insurer for RX450h because LV and others are now saying they won’t insure them because of the amount be stolen the SC insurance has not been straightforward either. I reinsured the SC with the RAC through Moneysupermarket giving a value of £17,000 (optimistic I know) on their site. On checking this with the RAC they will only pay out the market value for the car which is £1-2000 private and £3-4000 forecourt. That is no good for me so l have had to cancel that policy losing £25 even though it is within the 14 day cooling off period and doesn’t start for a couple of weeks. I have now gone for an agreed value policy through Adrian Flux for basically £200 more so can now relax that hopefully if the worst happens I am not going to lose £1000’s.

  29. European ports are completely full with Chinese EVs. Hamburg, Zeebrugge, Antwerp, Rotterdam and so on. Previously cars were unloaded and then disappeared to the end customers mostly through dealers. The Chinese have a different approach they just use those ports as storage area. Some cars have been there for 1.5 yrs. Chinese manufacturers get paid per car by the Chinese government so keep producing my friends happy days and who cares if nobody buys them ?! Demand for 2nd hand ones is very low out of consumer fear. What are you buying? what is the state of the battery? High electricity prices make EVs as expensive as petrolcars? In most countries you pay roadtax based on weight and that is much higher with a battery? How about value will they continue depreciating like crazy? From the model you are interested in for sure there will be newer versions withmore range faster charging so why buy this one? In short there are too many uncertainties for private buyers. Like before the market is driven by companycars only.

  36. Just looked back to my first 450h+ shown above (should read 9/5/2023) which at this time last year will have been 14 months old with approx 10k on clock. In May 2022 there was another thread we were noting range on - I'll see if I can find any posts from then as my new car has some 'learning' to do !! UPDATE: I've found the other thread, titled: NX 450h+ electric and petrol range, but it seems like I was more interested in working out the mpg than a day to day electric range then!!

  38. Is that what they charge at public charge stations? A big difference from the 9p per Kwh I'm paying for 'Octopus Go' each night. At my indicated 2.4 mile/Kwh I calculate that 33 miles is costing £1.24. At £1.49/litre for petrol, 33 miles of pure ICE only is costing £6.77, which is 5.5 times more. Even the Octopus daytime rate of 26.778 p/Kwh, it is 1.8 times cheaper than petrol.

The cat sat next to the dog and lifted its right paw. extended his big claws as if to say " Come near me and you will get this". The dog went round the other side of the table. It was so funny to see.

  44. Sounds fair... Except I have an SE-L so there's not a lot I can do about that. 🤣 That's the thing with old barges, once you have got yours up to snuff it's generally ill-advised to trade for another as you'll be inheriting an unknown quantity. I'll probably just end up doing what I can within the confines of the spare wheel well. I replaced the access hatch for the rear a/C filter as one of the clips had broken and it made me ponder if I could use it for other stuff. Whilst it's not useful for everyone, I've found the SE-L is a great family roadtrip machine though, I love sitting in the back with my daughter whilst Mrs D chauffeurs. The coolbox is decent enough for keeping cold beverages at hand too. A/C powered coolboxes are never as good as a proper fridge but I'd say this one is better than the ones I've had in the front of various cars, presumably because of the rear a/c unit. Only problem is fitting all the luggage in around your legs, sort of tempers the luxury vibe somewhat 😋

  45. I thought i'd start a thread based around the CANbus fix through Lexus. Personally, i'm very disappointed in Lexus. I know they are not the only manufacture to be troubled by this, however, over the years, I have avoided getting an RX due to CAT thefts, and this is something else which is just tainting the brand. I fully acknowledge that they cannot contact every owner as DVSA do not consider it to be a safety issue, however, they could easily have sent a letter to anyone who has had their vehicle serviced in the last few years with them. Annoyingly, this fix is going to be chargeable. If anyone has had it, could they state how much it has cost them? My nearest dealership is an hour away, which means that if this fix is completed, it will take most of the day to complete. My concern is, however, that this is still going to have an impact on these cars. Once this fix is put in place, how will an opportunist know it's not worth their time without dismantling your bumper as a fix has been completed? Maybe a window sticker is needed 😉

  48. Congratulations. I'm sure you wont regret it. With regards to insurance, don't disregard trying Lexus Motor Insurance. Despite some owners on here being quoted quite astronomical figures by them, I personally have found them to be quite competitive (both on my previous 2018 NX and my current 2022 model). They offer repairs by Lexus approved body-shops using genuine Lexus parts. Also don't forget that the true value of an insurance company, regardless of cost or other factors, only comes to light when you need to make a claim.

  49. Well all, for better or worse I've almost completed the Rear Screen. I have no room for any Chrome but the beading of butyl is yt to be added and the boot end has to adhere to the platic rail. Before obvious critisism of the work in my defence I've laid awake for almost two months of incessant rain and dry and its been difficult to make progress. Couple this with the fact that I have advanced prostate Cancer, Lymphodeama , DVT and Bilateral Nephrostomys to my kidneys and you will understand wht I'v had to go through becuase of spiteful youths. Its wonky I know. The frivoulous fringe at the bottom is because I cut the material too short but couldnt start all over againand was too lazy to cut it off. Gives it a feminine feel! . I put the wrong side outer and not the rain proof side which meant I had to melt some silicone with white spirit and brush it all over to ensure rain runs off. I have yet to also stick it down to the plastic rail that crosses the boot. I've today glued it to the Cork and need wait 24 hours before finishing. The only Cabrio LS400 in existence?
