  1. I think that to access the menu for vehicle customisation on later gen 3 Cars you have to be stationary with the car in park. Menu missing I don't understand. Have you got the handbook. If not you can probably download it from the Lexus website.
  2. I have owned all 3 of the cars mentioned IS300h f sport 2014, 2015 GS300h Luxury (pre face-lift) and generation 3 and 4 RX450h. Gen 3 RX450h is a great car (and better looking in my opinion than my current version). IS300h is a great car, but if you are currently in a 400h it won't feel so spacious. Of the saloons the GS was my favourite. True there is no fold down rear seat, but if you want a load lugger then buy a RX450h. The GS in my opinion feels much more substantially built, quieter and in the real world just as quick as the is. Also I got great fuel economy with the GS, it has a much bigger sat nav screen and is a lovely drive. I only changed to the RX because we had a new granddaughter and it is much easier to deal with isofix child seats and pushchairs with the extra height and space. I had to drive from Gloucester into London and back in the GS. I did a tank to tank test and the car did an impressive 54 mpg. Certainly worth a test drive and probably as cheap to buy as an is of the same vintage. Good hunting
  3. Personally I would decline the add ons especially paint and upholstery products. There are some excellent DIY products available. I generally favour chemical guys products. Their fabric protector is great for carpets for a few pounds. Externally I use their blacklight nano sealant (it's fine on all colours including white). They now do a white version I believe.

  5. If the car is an Advantage then check the Diamond Cut wheels for corrosion around the centre caps and insist on refurbishment if there is any sign (Lexus UK paid for mine as a goodwill gesture). Make sure you physically check the car bodywork carefully before accepting delivery. Also check the interior trim especially rear doors for rips and scuffs. My last 2015 Advance looked great online and I was assured it was all good. Upon collection it looked fine (thanks to filling polishes). Close inspection following a wash required the car to go back and spend nearly 3 weeks in the bodyshop. This included a complete repaint of the tailgate due to a rust bubble near the corner of the number plate. This on an Approved Used Lexus. 😢
  6. I don't think there is a way to deal with this. Having had a 2014 IS300h, a 2015 GS300h, a 2015 RX450h and currently a 2017 RX450h I am constantly annoyed by the same issue. Mind you at the moment you could cut a paper map out of a magazine and stick it with blu tack over the screen 🤣🤣🤣
  7. In the olden days when I could work on cars I never bothered. In more recent times I was buying used cars every 9 or 14months after 25to 30,000 miles and then trading them. This meant I always had a car either under new car warranty or approved used car warranty that came with the vehicle when I bought it. Financially this worked for me as I avoided big services and rarely bought tyres or brakes. Since having more expensive Lexus I prefer the peace of mind of the warranty. On my last car I paid monthly when the dealer warranty expired. Never claimed and was pleasantly surprised when I had a refund of over £400 when sold.
  8. I recently (before) lockdown had a cheque to put in the bank. When I got the nice man explained I could have deposited it by phone banking. Since then I have. The banking app gets you to photograph both sides of the cheque and then it is deposited electronically. Just keep hold of the paper cheque until it has cleared.
  9. Having owned both a Black IS and a white GS I am rather prejudiced as to the colour of the paintwork. Certainly with the black metallic it needs a lot of care to avoid swirls in the paintwork and cleaning can be a bit of a chore. If considering one of these two cars definitely check the condition of the bodywork and interiors as per my previous post regarding the standards of preparation.

I would certainly be looking to get a car with a Lexus warranty, but you might be able to put that on the non Lexus supplied car. If pearlescent white make sure the bodywork is tip top as the colour is expensive to repair properly.

  13. Are the tyres Dunlop by any chance? Wheel bearing rumble is a known issue when they get worn- speaking from experience 😢
  14. The anthracite will look amazing with the silver. My gen 3 diamond cut alloys were changed as part of a goodwill gesture by Lexus to a dark chrome finish similar to F sport.
  15. But a water pump failure is over a grand and my car has recently had one (whilst on the dealers forecourt prior to my purchase). The 2nd low mileage Lexus out of 4 owned in 4 years to require one.
  16. My car was a 2014. The later one I had on loan was a 2018. The difference in economy was marginal so don't let the year cloud your judgement. Getting the right car is more important than the age. My 2015 GS300h was a pre-facelift car but only a Lexus buff would know. I paid 21,000 for it in 2017 and it was immaculate with only 11,000 miles and luxury spec. Do view the Lexus YouTube video on driving a hybrid if economy is your thing. Driving a hybrid requires a different technique to a conventional petrol car.

  18. These are a very reliable car. My first advice would be to check that the car has been properly prepared for sale. Lexus dealers in my experience can be a little lax on proper preparation compared to others. Try and buy a car that has been sold and serviced by the same dealer and ask for a redacted printout of work on the car. The online records are helpful but from experience don't show everything. Lexus warranty is great. Try and get an extra year thrown in if you can. I have owned a IS300h and they are a good car. £20000 should get you a fine example. Do have a long test drive in the car you want to buy as seating comfort varies between vehicles. If you are considering an f sport this is important as the seats are quite firm (mine was an f sport). Later versions I have driven appear to be better on fuel economy. I am sure if you buy the right car you will be pleased. Good hunting 👍
  19. I had all 4 wheels refurbished on my 2015 RX450h as a goodwill gesture by Lexus due to corrosion around the wheel centres. I have had one wheel on my 2017 RX450h replaced under warranty for the same reason.
  20. Hard water I think. I always wipe the doors off after the hand wash guys have cleaned it as I get spots all over the doors. Both my RX's have always had a line down rear screen after washing.
  21. Had a beer delivery from Gloucester Brewery today. It was brought by a guy with an immaculate black CT200h. We chatted and I was amazed to learn it had 178,000 miles on the clock. Full Lexus history at Cheltenham and apparently running like clockwork.
  22. There is definitely a special jump point in the main fuse box on a 4th generation RX450h.This is on the nearside of the engine bay.
  23. Good move. My 2017 car had a water pump replacement under warranty (dealer gave me the paperwork). That job on a gen 4 RX450h is over a thousand pounds most of which is labour. Toyota water pumps are notorious for failing /leaking so I think you have made a wise decision.
