Cheap ? IS-F

I do actually know how they work in principle and for me is all good, except of expensive post code and 3 accident which were not my fault. Sadly, in UK (and I say that because it is not the case in most of other countries) it does not matter who's fault it was the insurance will go up for both parties regardless. Even if you do not make claim.

Besides car... may or may not still be on "warrantable" . Lexus is known for accepting warranty on the cars over 10 years old, as long as they are FLSH and under 140k miles. 

ISF buyers are quite rightly picky and want everything to work and the car to be in excellent condition, you are still paying a lot of money after all even for an older car. Most aftermarket solutions are a lot more than £300 and require the head unit to still be working to run of the aux.

The tyres and brakes are new on my car, I cant speak for the white one but I think that's the basis for the comparison. I don't personally think its likely you can negotiate someone down on price based on consumables on a car that's already around £2k below book, but who knows. I am surprised this car has not gone already tbh.

My F costs me £900 a year to tax and insure based on 10k miles, it would be cheaper still if I lowered the annual mileage, although admittedly not a massive amount it is a factor. However to put this into perspective the wifes CRV costs £700 for the same. I'll pay £200 more to drive an F.

It would be great if road tax was based on usage but its based on emissions, so if you want a 5.0 V8 you have to expect to pay more. My man maths is to look at it more as only £200 more than most run of the mill performance cars, then its only £15 a month more 🙃

It probably has gone, I would be surprised if is not. 

I would not expect tyres to be new, but I would not expect them to require immediate replacement either. If latter, then it would be reasonable to point that out. Clearly owner does not thin that replacement is needed, else I would expect that to be listed. Especially if he already listed broken screen, then I would assume he would list all other issues as well.

When I say android replacement I mean completely new head unit and throw obsolete Lexus tech in to the bin. Something like this:

I agree, that having anything broken on the car is not ideal when selling as that automatically attracts negative attention and drives down the interest. Hence I assume owner is in the rush to sell, so that he can be bothered fixing the screen and probably putting the price-up to £14.5k

Actually, the other theory is that he as mentioned wants to move to bigger car, so possibly he rock-bottom PX value on IS-F and even selling it for £12k is better than PX'ing it for £8k. He probably has some car he wants to pick-up and don't want deal to go away, hence quick sale. Obviously, complete speculation.

Will this work on the ISF? The years match mine, but I didn't know if the F had a different set up to a standard IS. I'm still in the early days of getting to know this model and the potential changes.

IS-F has the same set-up as standard IS, but I would advise contacting the seller and asking. I know that usually it is not an issue for cars without sat-nav at all, but IS-F all had not only sat-navs, but as well all had ML. I am sure there is model which works with ML, but you would need to ask sellers to confirm which one it is.

Interestingly, since moving away from the usual diesel VAG euroboxes I've normally done ok when selling my cars on. I've found that the niche cars in very good condition that I've had (Subaru / high displacement models) tend to suffer from less depreciation as there is an enthusiast market out there who tend to be willing to pay good prices for decent examples. Same here, i'll stick in £50 and go out for a long blast in the hills the next day instead of a night out, cars aren't just A to B for me. I had a Golf R estate before the ISF and interestingly the ISF is cheaper to run. Servicing has been cheaper so far (Oil and filter service Golf R was £120 at my local specialist, ISF was £105 with genuine Lexus oil/filter from LPD and labour at my local specialist) and so have the discs and pads (Golf R was approx £500 for clubsport s discs and ferodo pads, ISF £229 with brembo discs and EBC pads). Tax being over double obviously evens it out but even fuel useage isnt much different for my use, typically 26-27mpg over a tank in the golf v's 22-23mpg in the ISF.

In the same time period i've had the ISF the golf had also destroyed its rear diff and kept leaking rain water in too 😂

Yeh mine is about half of that so it is what it is, i couldnt pay what you pay, i dont think i've ever paid that much, not even when i was 17/18! The ISF isnt really any more than a 'normal' car on insurance for me and as above, its cheaper to run than my VW Golf R was and that isnt taking into account depreciation either. Insurance also made me fit a steering lock any time i wasnt driving the golf, that got annoying fast!

Same here... My 48k mileage 2012 ISF (8k limit pa) is only marginally more expensive to insure than my 188k mileage 2004 LS430 (12k limit pa).I got both for combined cost of £750 pa, literally less than £50 difference between the two separately.

That’s fantastic price the best price I got was Lexus insurance I’m paying £990 with full clean 20yrs protected ncbonus,age 48. Can I ask which company you are with????.thanks

We are paying £950 from Direct Line for both our GSF (6k PA) & RX 450h (10k PA) including Business miles for the wife and myself.  We both have clean licences, 9+ years protected NCB and are 39 years old. 
Both cars are parked on the driveway in Bristol. 
No one could get close to Direct Line. In fact Lexus insurance was around this price just for the F! 
Interestingly, the GSF was significantly cheaper to insure than our previous IS250 and also our RX, until this year.

With Adrian flux. I have 10 yrs NCB on each, Direct line were next cheapest at around £780, but they wanted a tracker too, which I didn't have time to get before the policy went live.

I can't help but think its where you live that has a massive bearing on Insurance. I'm a little older than you with the same NCB and I was quoted £217 for a 17 plate RCF I nearly purchased recently. Winding voluntary excess to zero its £277. Cheaper than my 6 pot bimmer.  I believe (or at least I know) I'm in a low risk area.

I guess one thing to consider is that we still in lockdown, so technically it would be illegal to take test drives etc. 

This being private seller and considering what kind of the car it is I would imagine a lot of people would not take a risk buying it without seeing it, test driving it or taking it for inspections. So my guess maybe potential buyers are just queuing-up and waiting for lockdown to finish.

The market for such a vehicle, as we know, is rather limited. Maybe the cheap price in itself is putting people off! 

The other perceived disadvantage is most likely that it is being sold just before the magic 100k mark. There are still those who think that it's the time where it all starts going wrong!

At that price they never stay for long. Cars priced at 17k+ tends stay for longer as at that time the seller is looking for person who actually appreciates their particular car. For £12k it is good value generally when you consider it is 4.4s to 60 and 400hp+ car.

Another thing is warranty, as car is now 12 years old it may be difficult to get it warranted. In either case that would apply to any 2008 IS-F and ~100k miles is about right for the year. So whichever way we look it is still well priced car.

You can warranty a car for pretty much as long as you want (I'm sure there is a limit) but you must have taken it out before the car is 10 years old.
