  1. I'm afraid that I can't answer your question as I've never seen an ATF that's 'apple juice' colour - I've only ever seen red so I don't know if that's indicative of a problem or not. However, topping it up yourself has got to be the best and quite possibly the cheapest thing to try first. If you drive that 10 miles as it is and something is wrong, you could do a lot of damage. On the other hand, towing charges and/or getting the garage to come and pick it up would be an expensive way of finding out that nothing's wrong and it just needed topping up. Surely you've got a small funnel lurking around somewhere, or could buy one locally?

  3. Does not look shabby at all. Actually, I have always thought that this colour suits the "old" IS best

  4. Finally got the exhaust on - wife's on nights and kids are out so had time to do this. Took me from 10am to 6pm to get it on after fettling a few pipes. Well impressed at how its turned out - relatively easy to do it if you take your time and get the parts altogether first.. Still need to do a few jobs (I ran out of welding wire !!) so I still have one centre hanger to go on. Exhaust tips to go on, I have found some which take each pipe to 3" and the spoiler is due from the states at the end of next week. The sound is a low burble at low revs and when the engine is cold - when at speed its very quiet. I have got rid of the drone at motorway speeds which I am well impressed with. Below is the pic with the exhaust done (so far) will post another pic when its complete.

  5. Ooh! Lovin' that colour! Never seen it before. Shame I've bought mine for long term or I'd look out for one that colour. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk

  6. My 400h has now done 175000 miles from new and coming up 10 years old. Apart from regular service and tyres nothing major went wrong...well, 5 years ago the hybrid ECU packed up ( fixed under warranty ) and the small start up battery changed at 80000 miles.

  8. Dipstick awkward to get at as surrounded by LPG paraphernalia, and I have hands like a grizzly bear. However,I've managed to top it up,it took about two egg cupfulls. Strangely enough when I checked the level when engine cold the fluid was up to the hot level. Took it for a spin, she started off nicely ,but when warmed up she went back to slug mode. Don't want to risk overfilling and still awaiting return call from gearbox people. Throttle position sensor?.

  10. There was half a chance our next car would have been a RX to complement the IS, but it's fully electric or nothing for us from now on. Our Tesla is due to arrive in early 2017, the original plan was to keep the IS till 2020ish, but I have a sneaky suspicion once my wife gets use to the Tesla she will call the shots on that every time (her complaints on the Leaf main extend to range/lack of gadgets which the Tesla deals with on both fronts with ease).....The IS isn't a bad car but I couldn't drive it day in day out, the throttle lag and engine noise ruins the car for me, especially if the other car we have access to is a full EV..... Sadly I don't think the Tesla Model 3 will be available in the UK till 2019/2020 at the earliest, but I've always wanted to have a Jag on the drive way, we originally wanted a XF before ending up in the IS. With one kid here and potentially more on the way two larger cars might make sense too, I do like the build quality of our IS, but Lexus/Toyota's inability/reluctance to embrace EVs means our time with the brand will be rather short lived, so lets see what Jaguar can do with their EV attempt :) http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/all-electric-jaguar-suv-spotted-testing-again

  11. The LS430 is an amazing car and when you buy one some things are omitted from your normal driving life such as: Ever hearing the engine running in normal driving Ever having the need to switch on your wipers Ever having the need to switch on your lights Ever having the need to look for the key hole or inserting the key in the ignition and looking at other modern cars and thinking wish I had one of them - at least for me anyways. Now back to the question - my ls430 does have a key hole next to the drivers door handle - hope this helps

  12. Nice one Paul, and like the sneaky pic too 😉 I find the IS one the easiest cars to clean might be because of the waterless wash stuff ☺️ Not sure here it is again

  16. .............. looks to me like an old 1992 Ls400 with a bit of front bumper damage and old knackered house carpet cut for the front foot wells ! But the upholstery looks quite pristine ( the front anyway ) Too low a mileage to have ever been usefully used, worn out tyres as per DVLA MOT records which at 16k miles just doesn't ring quite true even though the tyres would have needed replacing from age alone and side wall perishing but not otherwise worn maybe....... 195.15 size tyres if I remember from my Mk1 Ls400 days. Steering column bearings worn too ??? wot's all that about in a 16k mileage car ! Sits ridiculously too high .................... and 24 year old worn mechanical stuff generally that's been totally underused ( maybe ) Not quite right methinks unless one knows the history of the car. Maybe I'm being unreasonably sceptical in my dotage Malc

  19. Here I am disagreeing! I guess it depends on where you live - if you use a lot of dark country roads you need good main beams. I use mine a lot. I have HID dips (aftermarket kit) but I use Osram Nightbreaker Unlimited Plus main beam bulbs. Doesn't matter where you get them from - they are available from loads of sellers on eBay - eg for £19.90 for a pair. from http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Osram-NightBreaker-Unlimited-HB3-Headlight-Bulbs-Duo-Case-110-Plus-Light-/252014362902?hash=item3aad3a0116:g:WuMAAOSwwbdWH59e I've had them in for a couple of years - no probs, although I don't do a huge mileage.

  20. Are you near a toyota or lexus dealer? Their bulbs would be similar price and last upwords of 5 years i imagine. There is lots on ebay, i dont rate halfords bulbs at all. Its personal prefrence really. Are you after the hid look ? I have Hid kit in normal driving 5000k. Standard main beam bulbs 3000k hid yellow fogs . Cree bulbs for side lights. Leds inside. I would not change my main beam bulbs from original, and to honest cant remember using it. Hids are that good if you get the new kits. Somebody may come along, and not agree with me at all. Thats fine buy what works for you and your budget. What model is yours? These are the ballasts i use. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252040003270?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649

  21. Very tempting indeed, although I think that my next car will be an NX rather than another RX as I no longer need the extra space.

  22. Euro 4 compliance wasn't started until 2005 so a 2000 LS400 cannot be included, the government website suggests contacting the vehicle manufacturer to see if it does meet the later requirements. The engine is very clean mine even at 22 years old still passes an MOT based on an LS430 test with stricter emissions every year with ease and that's without manufacturer fiddled figures! It's just another stealth tax at the end of the day to make up for the shortfall in council tax revenue.

  23. Hi Jason, The GS at the moment is with Richard Hybrid Battery Solutions, waiting to be sorted hopefully by end of this week :) In the meantime 2 weeks ago I had replaced the bearings in the gearbox pump as a precaution as I did not want to have the battery fixed and pottentially damage it by a faulty pump. Cheers Vasilis.

  24. Lexus are known for their reliability. A colleague of mine recently clocked 275,000 miles in his 16 year old GS300. Costs to date have been limited to regular maintenance at his local dealer. No major fault to report and everything is working fine. Admittedly it is not a RX or indeed a hybrid, but it reflects well on the Lexus brand. I would, however, get the car from a dealer to benefit from the warranty, and consider investing in an extended warranty as you suggest. I would also consider a service plan which will guarantee fixed monthly costs and a (approx.) 10% discount AND joining this forum to secure a further 15% discount on parts and labour... all this assuming that you will be getting your car serviced at your local dealer. Dealers may not normally have high mileage cars on their forecourts, but may be willing to source one for you.. Have you checked the Lexus website? - There are currently 2 high milers in pretty good condition at the Southampton dealership. One is slightly above your budget, but I am sure you could talk them down...
