  1. Has this site been taken over by the US forum:-) There is no such thing as 'math' in English; it's maths. Math is American English. And there is no such thing as British English; that's English. Here endeth the language lesson! Apologies Adam if you are from the other side of the pond!! Now in respect of the actual question although I drive an RX I agree with all of the other comments. I've never driven a large engined petrol car but I've driven a hybrid for almost 30 months and a 3.5ltr hybrid is an absolutely amazing experience, smooth, powerful, quiet and, all things taken into account, amazingly economical. They are affected by the cold weather; a combination of more electricity sapping accessories being used and the batteries being less efficient in the cold can result in my mpg dropping to mid to high 20s; down from mid to high 30s in the summer. Regardless of that once you've driven a hybrid you'll be hooked!

  4. Stu The mention of the magnets put me in mind of a trick I did on my Jiffy classic mini engine sump ,bearing in mind the sump contains the oil that lubricates both engine and gearbox. I took apart a magnatron from a defunct microwave oven and this as two very powerful magnets on the gun I just let one go onto the base of the sump and there was no way it was coming off . It was powerful enough to magnetize the whole area around it attracting anything metallic that was within the engine,it worked a treat because when we stripped the engine during a rebuild the bottom of the sump had metal filings from the geardrives all over it and the metal sump had become magnetized were the magnet had been located.

  6. My car is booked in for a service today with Lexus Birmingham. A lady from the service centre rang me up the day before to do the usual courtesy call sort of stuff. Just before the call ended she said, just to ensure your comfort with the loan car do you have a preference as to which radio station you wanted it tuned to? I laughed out loud which probably wasn't the response she was looking for. I assured her that I had no preference. So, the question I am asking, is it just me or is that taking customer service a bit too far? I was thinking of ringing her back and saying actually, I'm 5"8' but you guys always set the seat in a position for a 6"9' basketball player. Can you do anything about that? By the way, I mentioned this to a Mercedes owner and an Audi owner. They were well impressed. Any thoughts?

  7. RX400h had it's MOT and 125,000 mile service done earlier in the week, all it needed to pass was front brake pads, handbrake adjusting and 3 bulbs renewing, no advisories either so well chuffed! Service consisted of oil & filter, air filter and pollen filter. Already for the Winter but I'm hoping I don't need it as a "Snow Weapon" lol

  9. There's people paying money to lower and stance their cars, and Lexus owners are getting it done for free by dislocating the control arm.

  11. If the air struts were to fail, would replace like for like or adjustable coilovers? (Might I add there are kits for fully adjustable air ride, that's what I'm currently building. A company makes air springs that are a direct placement for bc coilovers springs, just am using my own management system) Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk

  14. Every time someone asks me about the economical convenience of driving a Hybrid I answer that's it is not the right question: yes, probably you will spare some money, for a lot of reasons (some of them have been written above), but if the only purpose is sparing money, get a LPG or CNG car or even a diesel: hybrid drive is exceptional for many other reasons that are not only simple saving money, I am at my 3rd hybrid Lexus and I can't imagine to come back to a traditional vehicle, and at the moment pure electric has still the problem of fast recharge. The explanation of why hybrid is different is well painted in this old Toyota commercial:

  15. I really do suspect that part. Easy test for me to do... Try out the other steering wheel mounted controls... If they don't work, I'm guessing it's probably the clock spring... Of course, if they do, it doesn't rule them out. I'm guessing it's the interface for all steering wheel mounted switches? I've only had the car a short while, so I'm still getting to grips with it.

  16. Hi Vlad and Dave, Thank you very much for your help and replies which has made me think do i really need top price tyres for what my car is used for, was quoted £123.99 from Kwikfit per tyre for Bridestone Potanza which i have at present, im sure that price can be bettered via internet etc. I rang a local garage to me and he recommended Black Circles .com which he said is hard to better for price and i have opted for Kumho Ecsta P571 £137.98 for 2 tyres fitted valves etc, seen plenty of reviews all good so hope i made right choice. Thanks again, Jeff.

  18. ATF arrived, looks genuine, made by Fanfaro (stamped on the side) in Germany who I have not heard of, but otherwise it's all Toyota livery as per the picture in the ebay link. Last transmission oil change was 2010 at approx 85K. Now 157k...so needed doing (although transmission is still totally smooth) Today, instead of draining from the sump pan, I used an oil extractor suction pump with the tube down the ATF dipstick. The pump removed almost 2.5 litres of fluid, more than is suggested you can achieve on the tutorial at http://www.lexls.com for the MK3... maybe it's that 5th gear on the Mk4 😄. Colour of the ATF was a bit brown, but I inspected it closely, no particles. In went just over 2 litres of the new fluid. Took it for a good run and all was well, checked level and it was within the bottom of the hot range. I will repeat after a few days driving and I'll get some more fluid. The suction pump made life easy, I measured the length of pump hose against the dipstick to make sure it went in far enough, but not too far to disturb the magnets.

  19. Probably average 2 miles a day. Furthest in one glide was about 3.5 miles on Arran, downhill all the way from the northern end round to the east.

  20. Yep, set of four I got on sale for £670. They were on sale think normal price £749 Most people will refer to adjustable coilovers as simply coilovers. However coilovers are already on most cars (as it's just a coil spring over the strut) they just aren't adjustable. So yes your right in saying the only difference is the adjustability (and that many people refer to them as simply coilovers) You can request whatever spring rates you like and can set them up to the standard ride height if you wish, just ensure that there is enough thread in the bottom of the shock absorber strut (the amount I believe is included in the instructions) The 30 way adjusting is brilliant. I have it set 10 from the softest and to say I'm running my Mk4 low on 19" wheels and runflats, it's much comfier than you'd expect! I can only imagine on the original wheels and stock ride height with the dampness set to very soft you'd retain that original Lexus feel [emoji41] Hope this helps!
