  1. Well my plans got delayed by the traditional Christmas man flu lol. Yesterday I emptied the fluid out of the heater matrix (blowing it out by mouth) into a clear 2 litre bottle and as always it was clean, I then filled it with a full bottle of forte and left overnight. Today I did the same, blew the forte out by mouth into a clean bottle and it was clear 😞 I then reverse flushed it with clean water for 15 mins. So as a last resource before replacing the matrix I put some clean water in it and pulsed some compressed air (40-50 psi) backwards through it (yes I know I probably shouldn't) again into a clear bottle and guess what ! I found some small pieces of debris in the bottle ! I did this multiple times until I didn't get anymore then hooked everything back up and tested it. The cold side is now hot 🙂 and the hot side is REALLY hot so it looks like a matrix blockage was the cause but I suspect the debris isn't corrosion, my water pump failed several years ago and was replaced under warranty and i bet its debris from that 😞 Its not 100% yet so Im going to drive it a couple of days then do the same thing with the compressed air and finally a full flush and replace with new antifreeze. So, now £1100 bill and no dashboard removal so Im a happy chap. Thanks all and have a great New Year. Kev

  2. Well looks like the gs300 idea did not last very long, it's not that the 300 was a bad car It was infact one of the best cars I have owned being under 90k miles and solid It was just a little small for my family even my 86 year old mum grumbled to me "oh it is not as nice as your old car or as comfortable". I found a white 2005 celsior on ebay the guy selling it turned out to be a very nice man and very hospitable and should be joining this forum soon enough I hope. Thanks to Phil turning up today after a crazy traffic ridden drive on the M25 today nice to have met you, your advice was invaluable. The car has some interesting quirks come I expected some I did not (but that made me giggle). The lady talking to me as I started the car making some sort of service announcement maybe was nice although that may wear thin so I may ask her real nice to shhhh. The beeping while in reverse like a lorry HAS to go (if anyone knows how I will be in your debt) The cruise control was good but much to my surprise I thought I had broken it on my 1st drive however I soon found out that It only works up to 68mph and won't set any higher which might need a new control box maybe. Does anyone know what that little black thing is near the stereo in the red circle? I did find there was a remote start thingy with it which was a nice thing to find I have not been able to make it work yet as It came with no instructions although I have been able to find a picture of it using google It would be nice if that worked. One of the best things about this car is that it does not have the premium package so no air shocks and still rides lovely Tbh I was going to change the airshocks out I thought were on the car out to coil-overs the week I bought it so happy days. Again thanks Phil

  3. A bit drastic Kevin. A couple of Lemsips usually does it for me 😁

  4. It doesn't sound normal. Either tyres, poor air seal around door/window or something like a wheel bearing. Difficult to determine without hearing it but my old 400h was very quite at anything up to 60 mph.

  5. You need 4 matching tyres on these cars. Certain brands on the rear wear in a stepped pattern and that is when a rumble like a wheel bearing starts. I've had this with my RX450h and changing tyres instantly cured the issue.

  6. Hi guys, This was the question a couple of work colleagues asked me recently after I acquired a new IS300h (Plus Pack). It replaced my 2014 IS also in F Sport White. My answer was that I happen to like that colour! Here are a couple if pictures..... (sorry about my shadow! The opposite angle would have shown some crappy recycling bins!) Anyway 120 miles on the clock and I'm loving it! Enjoying the addition of the Safety Pack. Cheers. Happy New Year to all members.

  7. Don't get too hung up on the noise rating of tyres. It is based on a smooth road surface that you don't find in this country and is measured by the sound heard at the roadside 1m away - tyre manufactures can actually design their tyres to do well in this test by directing the sound away from the kerb and into the cabin - which means a better rated tyre can actually be noisier to the driver than a poorly rated tyre.

  8. Michelin Cross Climates. I drive 500 miles a week and they are fantastically quiet and very grippy. They are allegextfo last 11,000 miles more than the competition

  9. Thanks Herbie, that's really useful to know. I've just looked them up and found this review in Auto Express. Interestingly, they came first for lack of cabin noise and they are well priced compared to the Michelins. https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/accessories-tyres/92869/goodyear-vector-4seasons-gen-2

  10. When I had my RX300 I had Avon ZX7 all round and there was certainly no excessive noise from them - great tyres and highly recommended. On my current RX450h I've got Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen 2 all round and they are excellent. Very quiet, great grip and very highly recommended.

  11. I was thinking about this post as I was out in mine earlier. I find shutting the sunroof cover/blind makes a huge difference (in Lexus noise terms) to the amount of noise in the cabin. I don’t have the panoramic roof, just a standard sunroof, but do try to do high speed trips with the blind shut as it’s a little more peaceful. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  12. Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I tried lowering the windows a little and using the sunroof (thank you Welland) but there is no change in the noise. Different road surfaces alter the intensity of the noise but even on a really smooth surface, there is still a constant whooshing. This afternoon I used masking tape all round the driver's door to see if it would improve the seal but it didn't make any difference at all. I think it must simply be the noise from the tyres and perhaps it is the fact that I have different brands on the front and back as Olliesgrandad says that is causing the problem. The Bridgestones are rated E/E/71 dbs and the Falkens are C/A/70 dbs. I may have to bite the bullet and buy a set of four matching tyres but what do you suggest from your experience? I can't find any tyres that are quieter than 67 dbs (Goodyear Efficient Grip). A couple of Michelins are 69 dbs (Cross Climate and Primacy 3). Your views would be very welcome.

  13. Excellent news Kev, well done persevering and I'm glad you now have a functional matrix again. Your success will spur me on to flush mine and use the fluid I bought earlier this year.

  16. Announce the date for the Nurburgring tour and ticket sales should fund an eight man pit crew + fuel tanker. No pressure but you may need to get this finished by the end of March 2019 for a trouble-free passage to Germany.

  17. Pretty sure its under specced, I found specs online that indicate 70-80Ah and the RAC's own website don't list the battery they fitted as compatible with the car! Rang them earlier and have raised a complaint, now have to wait 3-5 days for a response.

  18. Just to add, I may notice it more as I have to wear hearing aids. Which tend to amplify some frequencies more than others.

  19. 😂😂 i never thought of that. Will have to do 5 lap stints 😂 no it should be ok..... i hope. Trip to the nurburgring will be fun🙈

  20. Will the standard tank hold enough fuel to keep this baby on the circuit for more than 20 laps or should you consider a bigger fuel tank?

  21. Rhub, Is the sound the same on all road surfaces? Does it vary with your speed? Have you tried lowering and raising all your windows, and the sunroof a little? Does it make any difference?

  22. I used to know an old gentleman who replaced his Rolls Royce every two years with a new one of the same interior and exterior colours. Because he had private plates, no one ever realised. He liked driving a new car, but felt a bit guilty about doing so and did not want to upset relatives and neighbours... Sent from my LG-H930 using Tapatalk

  23. I noticed the noise on my IS300h. I changed to "low noise" tyres, but it didn't make a great deal of difference.

  24. Tyres play a massive part in road noise. Have a look on any tyre website to see what their sound rating is.

  25. Apart from it being nobody's business but your own that you chose the same colour for your new car because you like it, I find it admirable that you didn't change just for the sake of it as many people do. It's also a good thing that people know you have a new car. I once changed a BMW325i for a new 328ix in the same silver colour, and, since these were the days when it was fashionable to order a car without identifying the model on the back, almost nobody noticed for several months. Rather perversely, I must admit, I would chuckle to myself whenever someone commented, as often happened, on how I kept the car looking so new. When they finally found out, I was accused of all sorts of things, especially about how I had been taking the p**s, but hopefully without having damaged too many long-term relationships.

  26. We were discussing it a few weeks ago. Here are a couple of references for more on the subject.

  28. My issue isn't anything to do with variable resistance steering. Many of my previous vehicles have had that, I know how such a system should feel. My issue is an intermittent issue, that only seems to occur once I've driven for quite a distance at high speed. There is a TSB - I have a copy, I've attached it, and it is for both the IS250 and IS300h. I swear some dealers don't do any work and just fob off their customers. My steering assembly has just been replaced, under warranty and obviously approved by Toyota GB so the TSB is valid. It will probably be a week or two before I make a journey that would normally cause an issue so don't know for sure if the issue has been resolved. CP-0044L-0314_IR.pdf
