  1. An alternative to the pouch is to disable the key: on the key fob, keep the LOCK button pressed, while pressing the UNLOCK button twice. Press any button to wake the key up. As a matter of interest, once the car has been started using the relay attack technique, can the car be actually driven, or will it come to a stop once it loses the signal from the key?

  2. After my RX failed the MOT on the strut top bearings, my local garage spoke to lexus and they do not sell just this part you have to buy the whole new strut !!!!! £750 each !! So after spending some time on Google I found an advert on eBay and eventually spoke to this guy who was able to replace just the bearings for me at a reasonable £60 each The business name is orchard engineering and the contact number is 07901712988 Just thought I'd pass on the good news to other RX owners 🙂

  4. Reputational damage? At the same time, and possibly more to the point, you have to be realistic: whatever security system or feature is implemented one week will be defeated by thieves the following week. After all, car thieves have access to the same technology as car manufacturers. Consequently, a car deemed safe today will not be safe next month. Is this really a new issue? Don't think so... The issue of car theft is not a new one. Is it worth losing sleep over? I won't (even though I wouldn't be best pleased if I was to wake up to find my car had disappeared overnight) Incidentally, this issue was mentioned on BBC South Today tonight. While I understand that the press has a duty to inform people it is a shame that they at the same time give potential thieves a nice list of the cars that are most at risk. This is not news... It's sensationalism. Along the same lines, the same program had a feature a couple of weeks ago where a journalist had a small device implementated under the skin of her hand. She could then scan the device to read personal data such as medical records etc. The whole team was all excited about it. Err... Have we not been chipping dogs, cats and cattle for years!?! 6. I'm pretty sure they all have air suspension. I have, certainly, never heard of a European 460 with coils. For what it's worth, I'm coming up to 95,000 miles on mine and have had no problems. Mind you, I don't very often drive on those bloody awful British roads. A few years ago, I was given a tip by the dealer which I follow...…….every month I go through all the suspension and gearbox selections, driving about 10 miles in each, just to exercise the various modes. At the same time I run the airco to full cold for 10 minutes to check out the compressor then full hot for the same length of time. The 'full hot' kills any fungal growth in the ducting.

  8. It's behind a paywall at The Times but here is an extract: Thatcham Research, the automotive safety group, found that six out of ten new cars with a keyless entry and start system had no security measures to prevent a “relay attack”. Those given a “poor” rating were the Ford Mondeo, Hyundai Nexo, Kia ProCeed, Lexus UX, Porsche Macan and Toyota Corolla hybrid.

  9. Do I get an award, or a slap for digging up this old thread? 🙂 Thought it could be useful to someone. I had a Brink detachable towbar fitted to my 98 GS300 about 12 years ago at David Murphy Towing in Belfast but sadly sold that with the car a few years back and the towbar is now out of production. Anyway I phoned them again today to price one for my 01 GS430 and they have quoted me £450 fixed or £550 detachable fitted, shipped from Belgium with a lifetime warranty. They can make a towbar for cars registered before 1st August 1998 however after that date they have to type approved. My old GS300 was fantastic for towing our 6 berth caravan over many years, though awful on petrol at about 15-17mpg. As Towing is something we don't do every day then this isn't too much of a problem. 🙂 Here is a thread from when I ordered the towbar for the GS300 Andrew

  13. 😳......I got the hump as mine was £350 this year, has slowly gone up year after year despite me stressing “I’ve hit no one, no one has hit me, no person injuries for or against me”.......insurance companies are a complete “zero loss and only profit companies”......if payouts are up so is EVERYONES premium to cover their losses to a tune of a profit!......absolute highway robbery AT ITS BEST 😡

  14. Yes Shahpor I totaly agree with you I have not seen another around here thats why i like it and its not that they are rubbish like some of the rare cars you see Like those big Citreons And Renaults that are rare Because they were no good constantly breaking down. My old GS450 i got the Extended warranty twice but never had to use it i shall be extending this when the complimentray runs out I went up to North yorkshire (Skipton ) for a ride out and it run superb I did notice a bit of Tyre Roar but they are New Dunlop Maxx but i will be inflating them with Nitrogen today last one run on that and it does make them run Quieter I cant be sure but i think the old one had slightly more poke than this but not too much was still very potent when pressing pedal and the fuel economy according to the readout was 41 the other use to do about 37 so all in all very pleased i have also got the update Map data but not installed it yet so thank you all for the advice that you gave was very much appreciated. Oh one other thing there is a Lexus Marked Holdall in the boot with Breakdown stuff in Hi vis Jacket warning triangle Alchol Test kit First aid kit is that standard or is it a EU kit for going over to continent but it as never been used THanks All Robert

  17. I personally don’t want the printed manuals. Firstly, they were probably printed months ago and could be slightly out date plus searching for information is harder than electronic. I have the digital copies of the Lexus manuals. Copied to iBooks on my iPad so the actual size is the same size as the printed version plus searching for stuff is easy and the added benefit of increasing or decreasing the text size, etc. Much better in my opinion

  18. So just realised its been a whike since i updated this! Not much done really life has took over and been flipped 180 so this had had to go on the back burner! Anyway ive managed to finish the fuel lines and also installed a sytec fuel pressure gauge on the FPR Also managed to make the oil feed for the turbo aswell, used -4 braided ptfe hose andfittings all from viper performance. managed to neatly run it around the engine and down to the mishimoto sandwich plate. All the fluids are in and next up is the battery relocation. Once that is done i can sort out the vac lines and turn the engine over to get the oil round. Few more things i need to do before i can fire it up on the base cal. Also if any of you guys are on instagram, give me a follow on there, i post things on there pretty much as soon as they are done 👍 lexus_turbo_2jz

  20. Well i finaly decided and went down to see the Gs and to be honest was very pleased with it the only dark area that i found was the discs they were a bit rusty and one of the rears had a slight groove in it so we had a detailed discussion on this and we ended up looking at the specs of the discs and they were in the tolerances so i had a good run round in it and tried the brakes harshly and gently and they performed flawlessly so decided to have the car. Yes Adam you were quite right they was ok to deal with very courteous and said slightest problem let us know and we wouldnt expect you to come the 200ml we will arrange with your local lexus to appraise fault and liase with us One thing i noticed on my old SE L i had music options galore 6 Disc player HDD USB BT but this one as 1 disc USB and BT but the other one was overkill i suppose i didnt let that put me off The Mouse thingy was a bit awkward but just after 3 days ive got used to it The journey home was faultless and it was bucketing down with rain and as the tyres were Dunlop Maxx i was a little apprehensive but they were perfect but they are new One minor problem i found was that the Pass mirror did not drop on reverse but a quick phone call got the answer my local lexus told me to put it in reverse then drop mirror with control then back to park and then try again and voilla it worked I will get a few pics when i get myself sorted I would like to Thank you all for the excellent advice given its much appreciated Shahpor Nick Chris Mike Many thanks Robert

  21. I would second that. I've had an occasional stone chipping get caught up somewhere and it can make all sorts of squealing noises that only go away under braking. I have found that a short, sharp, violent blast of reversing can be a suitable cure, having checked the mirrors first of course!
