Hi, Just joined, have had my ES300H since May 2021, now done 72000 miles, getting 55mpg in winter and nearly 60 in summer, what's not to love!! mix of motorway and town work, living in Leicester

Just heard back from Lexus in response to my email over the weekend. They are assuring me that things are moving towards a programme of remedial action and have advised that the police have seized a load of equipment used for the CAN BUS thefts in the London area. Also they have stated that the new RX/RZ is on a different platform with different software so should not be as vulnerable. How quickly this translates into positive action for us I cannot say. I will keep in contact with Lexus.

Hi Simon and finally welcome to the best Lexus forum there is. You took your time didn't you? lol. Good to know you're enjoying ownership of your ES. You're getting very good fuel mileage. Have a look in the dedicated section of this forum. There is an ES section. Introduce yourself there. We are all happy to help where we can.

Dropped all seat related plans to have some enjoyment over half term whilst the wife is off work and the weather favourable. Have made the executive decision to just repair/ repaint the seats for now. Car should be back with me next week, the weather is nice, so heated seat function is low down priority and I'll save it for a winter job. So the mystery shall remain for now. Have cleaned the seats and my dad is popping over tomorrow with spray gun to apply dye and newly acquired sealant. Will do my best to get some pics for the forum to assess 😉

Hello all, So this week I've had a bad time with Instagram writing off my account due to it being hacked. As a result I lost years of memories and updates to my ISF. I managed to salvage some images, so I thought I'd create a 'build thread' on here to enable me to have a place to bank my photos and updates. If you're a purist that doesn't like modifications, it's probably best you don't read on lol. So what did I purchase: - 2010 Lexus ISF - USB - Purchased with 54K on the clock - Hayward and Scott SS system - Alacantara steering wheel - Takeda intake. My plans for her when I initially purchased her, was to have a clean, standard ISF, that I could enjoy stock and not spend too much money on (whoops). I also wanted a car I could make fun memories with for me and my family, visiting shows, places and generally using the car more than my previous GS430, which was modified to a point where it was more for shows, than using to go everywhere. Since then, plans changed, as they so often do. I picked her up in Aberdeenshire from a lovely guy, which resulted in the best 9 hour drive home ever. Progressively becoming more and more adventurous with her abilities as the 9 hours went on.

I am happy to share that i have ordered a Premium edition in Sunlight Green with Black interiors. I had a good experience at the Cambridge dealership which helped me seal the deal. I have been given an estimated dated of end of September. There are some amazing discounts being offered and i got mine for around 33k with with 2k deposit contribution and managed to get alloy insurance added to the entire deal. I have not had a chance to see my colour on road. i took a 800 mile trip to the south and did not manage to see a single ES on the bank weekend!!! I hope all goes well. fingers crossed! 🤞

Day 2 not much milage today, still trying to sort out the technical setup - keeps asking me to accept terms and conditions ????? but after charge numbers are 41.3 / 39.2. So slightly up from yesterday

I find that Waze does all that anyway doesn't it? When I used to use a stand-alone TomTom many years ago I subscribed to the camera database supplied by https://www.pocketgpsworld.com/ I haven't looked recently but I think it used to be £20/year and if you reported a camera location that wasn't already on their database you got a free 12 month subscription. It works the same way as you've described Coyote in that it shows fixed, mobile, average speed and temporary cameras on both sides of the road and is constantly updated. I've neither used it nor needed it since I discovered Waze but it strikes me that it would be a very good alternative to Coyote for those who want it.

A somewhat pointless ‘survey’ from an organisation I’ve never heard of and without any context (who was asked, how were they asked, how many were asked, were they asked or did they volunteer etc.) The article was published in the Daily Mail…enough said! I’m just a bit surprised that they’re not claiming Meghan Markle drives a BMW and that’s why they’re so rude… ”Andy Moody, founder and managing director of GoShorty, said: ‘Sadly, our powers cannot make the UK's rudest drivers more considerate on the road, but we can help save you money with more efficient insurance options.’ ^^ Translation - “We are desperate for publicity and free advertising, so we made up a survey and paid the Daily Mail to publish it in order to try and grow our business.” Cynical? Moi? 😁

Coyote is a French-owned subscription speed-camera alert system compatible with the Lexus CY17 navigation system. A free three-year subscription was offered via the MyLexus e-store app in 2019 on new RC, ES, UX, LS and maybe other models in Italy, France, Spain and also, I believe, Benelux. Renewal was to have been €99 yearly, though I believe the charge actually went down. I didn’t renew on expiry of my own free subscription last November, not because I didn’t find the system useful but because I find Lexus’ own system largely adequate for my own needs. For those unfamiliar with the Coyote system it alerts users of fixed speed cameras and is constantly updated both by the company’s own channels and the community of users who update the data base for the presence of new cameras on one or both sides of the road simply by highlighting the Coyote logo on the car display. You can also alert fellow users about any mobile cameras you might spot but I neither received or issued any such alert in the entire three years of the subscription. The system also provides real-time warnings of accidents, queues, stationary vehicles, roadworks etc., within a 30km radius. Most of the Coyote’s proprietary features were supposedly going to be incorporated into Apple CarPlay but, as far as I know, no deal was ever reached.

Hi. Yes it was mrcarmax. Had it installed during COVID so around 2-3 years ago. Personally have not had any issue with it. Some sound is noticeable from the cage movement when going over speed bumps but not from the physical welded and bolted steel plate. I'm going to go back now that I have recent bought an additional rx450h and have the same done. I would recommend a mechanic look over the exhaust before hand as any work required is going to be impossible after its installation unless removed completely. Actually I think it has protected the exhaust from many elements. I use the car regularly. Also just had the scorpion X immobilizer installed in the 450h. Very pleased with results. This was from a separate merchant, trackershop found via Google.

Have you had any issues with your ES? That is a big mileage in 2 years!

If the car had HID from factory it also had headlamp washing and automatic leveling of light, so no reason why LED should not be acceptec when HID are.

If you ask me... it just looks wrong... but maybe that is just me. I do believe I got the wheels which came off this car originally!

Yes, my insurance has gone up from 400 to 480 this year in Pinner in London, my old cars insurance was 230 (fully comp) it was a qashqai. , the prices should get better as until you reach around 65 then it increases, is what I have heard. Try adding friends or family who have licenses and a clean record for a long time if they consent as a named second driver this helps, but make sure you don't put them as the main as then insurers will wiggle out of paying. Your occupation also help doctors for example pay nearly double as compared to an accountant when they have newer licenses. However, even though it may be tempting when a black box insurer offers you a low quote do not go with them especially with an ES300h, as they will say you accelerated to fast, sped up .... and cancel your insurance, then you will have to declare to your new insurer that your old one got cancelled, that sends insurance through the roof, i have a friend who that happened to with a BMW 3 series.

I asked them to meet what other dealers were offering on carwow and they offered easily.

i have downloaded that and can see the status on the app. i did not know that i would be able to track the vessel as well. that sound very interesting. i will definitely get that info.

The Chester car is decent miles, good spec, right colours - same as mine so definitely the right colour combo 😂, ML, HUD, pre-18 louder exhaust, 50k sticker, you’d get that for close to 45k I’m sure. Put an offer in and see how you get on.

I have not made a decision yet . I'm having a service later this month so I will be taking to the mechanic for his suggestion. John

I have a 2013 RX450h on 105K miles. The last 2 times I have booked it in for a service at the local main dealer they have asked if I want to pay extra for an engine and Injector flush. I struggle to see that this is necessary if it is not already included in the standard service. It's also something that was not offered before but not sure if it is recommended because of the age and mileage of my vehicle or just a new way to extract a bit more money from the customer! Does anyone have any views on this? Thanks

The car has been viewed and inspected by an insurance assessor. No doubt, it was taken to a repair centre, and a list of parts made to effect a satisfactory repair, by an experienced engineer. Then a report subsequently prepared given to the afore mentioned employee of the insurance company. Both of these guys will know their jobs inside out. They will have looked at the prices for the parts from lexus, and only lexus. They will then have made a decision based on the price of the parts and the Labour to return the car to pre-damaged condition. “Stolen recovered minimal damage” as you suggest here obviously is not the case. The interior damage to the trim is obviously extensive, there is a lot of trim missing and I would guess unfortunately the car probably needs a new dashboard. The glovebox looked like it has been wrenched out. Mounting lugs are probably broken and smashed. It hasn’t got minimal damage. The value of the car to the trade would have been in the region of £32-35k. So the repair to make the car right must have been in excess of £16-17k. It’s in the best interest of the insurance company to make an economic repair - in the end it costs them less than writing the car off. if this can’t be made, using the judgement and experience of the engineers who have actually seen and assessed the car, not just looked at a few photos - how is this an abuse of the category system?? The F cars are rare in the UK. salvage parts are few and far between. It’s not a 3 series or the like where any part, in any colour is readily available on eBay.

Rust, just keep on top of it at each and every service and MOT time ........... it's a car, they rust, it's metal, it rusts ....... and our cars are amazingly ancient for a " modern day " car ............. so just make sure when you buy one it's looking as rust free as it can be and get someone with professionalism to check it over from time to time .. it's metal and it's a car .. they rarely last forever ... not even a Lexus 🤔 Good hunting Malc

My disability makes riding a bicycle impossible, but I’d love a Renault Twizy (or similar) for local travel to the shops etc. The only thing stopping me - apart from cost as I’ve already got two cars - is wondering how other road users would ‘treat’ a Twizy. It’s more like a car than a bicycle, but I’d still bet some people would be impatient with the 35-40mpg realistic top speed…

Similar spec would need to be 330e Sport, with all the extras to make it the same is £53K your actually looking at Audi A3 or A class saloon at £40K with similar spec

These engines are designed for, and regularly achieve, 200-300k miles and more without any additives, flushes or suchlike. Just another way of relieving you of your hard-earned cash.

Hi Nigel, This probably is to late to help you and may not applicable but when you talked about replacing your aerial I was sure I saw somewhere where you can change the aerial mast quite easily. The subject has come up again on the CLUB Lexus forum and there is a Technical Bulletin on how to do this which I have attached. However it does require you to be able to power out the mast and then just power the new one in but unless you could coach yours out it probably won't work for you but I thought I would mention it anyway. This is interesting. I note that on the box it did state that the LED bulbs were 'for off road use only'. My RX has passed its MoT regularly ever since I upgraded to the HID conversion and recently since I changed this to the LEDs. Evidently there is some flexibility in the way testers interpret this.

Just be careful or it'll fail the MOT. If a headlamp unit was designed to have a halogen bulb in it but you put something else in there, it's a 'Major' defect and an instant fail. Similarly, if the unit is designed to have a HID (Xenon) bulb in it and you put something else in there, it's a Major defect and instant fail. Whatever the light source (bulb) it must match the unit it's meant to be in. From the MOT Inspection Manual:

....and finally, last weekend involved a drive out to Silverstone for a Coffee Run event. Having a few weeks away from driving the car really made me appreciate what she is and what she can do. Even nearly 2 years on and driving her is still an occasion and fun. I've toyed with replacing her, but to move to an RCF seemed like a waste of money for very little changes considering where the ISF is now and other than the run of the mill and common German equivalents, I find myself in the happy place of not wanting to replace her. This year will see PPE headers and an RR tune, plus a full service and some more weight saving modifications, plus a trip to the south of France and plenty of shows. Thank you for catching up and viewing my post.

The final post of 2022 was a random one for me. A Japanese car show, on December 4th, 15 minutes from my house! It was dry, there were no salty roads and I decided to take the ISF out for one last spin of 2022. Some lovely cars were present and somehow, the ISF walked away with a Best of Show award. Not something I expected or ever planned on. The ISF (and her siblings) has to be one of the most unknown and underrated cars, even amongst Jap circles! It was pleasant knowing that someone knew what it was and voted on it, which wrapped up my year nicely!

After Devon was the addition of the carbon SARD wing, a bolt on wing that does not require drilling of any kind, which helped me decide if I wanted to keep it, without destroying the bootlid. All my modifications are designed so that I can retrospectively return the car to stock.

Then came Japfest, a trip to The Motorist for a ExclusiveJDM's Season Opener and a trip to Devon.

One of the biggest modifications that cost the least than took place. A dechrome of the car, which made an incredible difference, which surprised me when I collected her. I then took the machine polisher to her and ceramic coated the car for show season and a busy summer.

I have always had an addiction with carbon fibre, it's always been something that looks so perfect with modified Jap cars (to me!). Which brings me to the next big modification of last year, carbon bonnet and wings. Now although a questionable modification for weight loss on the front end, since the OEM bonnet is aluminium and OEM wings are not that much lighter than their carbon counterparts. These modifications did remove some weight over the heavy front end, but sadly the images I took of the weights has been lost. It was a marginal amount though and not life changing. I also had to make the ballsy move to cut into a freshly new carbon bonnet for the latches, as I didn't fancy losing it at higher speeds.

A week later the car went for another trip to Wales with more smiles and once I returned home, more carbon was waiting for me. Then the more expensive modifications started to take place with new coilovers added, to replace the tired OEM set up that started clunking during the return home from Wales.

Then came the Maxton Design lip kit, purchased predominantly because of the cost of importing any other kit from abroad (ISF parts are hard to come by, modified parts even harder). I also managed the first road trip in the car to the 'outlaws' in lovely Wales where I was able to push the car and enjoy the twisty roads in the early hours of a beautiful Sunday morning.

Then came the obligatory shots of her in my possession and the awkward first modifications of Vland lights, but also the start of my carbon addiction.

Couldn't agree more AJ and the amount of stealth taxes being introduced into our system is legion. As you say it won't be long before the majority of new cars hit the 40K mark and if new prices are on the up then so as sure as night follows day so will used. Add to that the ongoing chip shortage and other raw material costs stoking price increases and regretfully for buyers there's only one way prices are going to head. Frankly, until demand is stifled, this scenario could play out longer than most would wish. You know what I paid for my LC and even now I'm still sitting on a trade in profit! I never thought I would see the day when cars were/are an appreciating asset but here we are.
