  1. Collected my son-in-law from a vasectomy op this morning. I think we may have a new Pothole detector! All we need is to get all the Councillors and Highways Officers to have the snip then drive them around the area. Start with the lowest paid and by the time the turn of the 'Leader' comes around the roads will be like glass!

  2. Spectacular piece of coincidence. The misfire was down to coil plug being adrift on coil 3. I am saying three - left bank 3 in facing the windscreen. Car was serviced about two months ago. So no ECU worries. 🙂 Interestingly now the radio is working the error for the AVC/LAN bus has gone. So without research I can only guess it has something to do with the Mark Levinson system bus. It has a Pionner headunit installed that I fitted about 2 years ago, but that uses a Lexus data converter so the Levinson system works as it should including the steering wheel buttons. Had a A/C DTC, that was logged as Historic but didnt show last scan. Also had two DTC for the oleft and right Solar sensors. Hardly surprising with the car in agarage 8 months of the year. Just taken it for the final test drive before handover and the Solar Sensor DTC has gone and taken the AC fault with it, so happy days. Will let owner use it for a week then plug in again and see if anything has occured. More info on the fault finding later. Thank you to everyone.

  3. The car is now running. It does however have a misfire and one AVC/LAN bus is down. All systems are up, except the radio. I will do a more comprehensive report soon. Apart from the new battery and the 140A fuse, there were nine other fuses and arc damage to one the ECU plugs. One pin to be precises must have been hit with a fair bit of current. When I took the ECU out I could smell it. I am going to scope the coil triggers to see if the misfire is a FET issue or loom/coil coincidence. I do not believe the monster reverse surge would have gone through the ECU to a coil without killing the ECU forst. On inspection it looks fine inside. Anyway I have been documenting my finds so I will publish soon.

  4. So after having sorted a new insurer for RX450h because LV and others are now saying they won’t insure them because of the amount be stolen the SC insurance has not been straightforward either. I reinsured the SC with the RAC through Moneysupermarket giving a value of £17,000 (optimistic I know) on their site. On checking this with the RAC they will only pay out the market value for the car which is £1-2000 private and £3-4000 forecourt. That is no good for me so l have had to cancel that policy losing £25 even though it is within the 14 day cooling off period and doesn’t start for a couple of weeks. I have now gone for an agreed value policy through Adrian Flux for basically £200 more so can now relax that hopefully if the worst happens I am not going to lose £1000’s.

  7. Think the spec Neil put up was what each car has as wheel nuts. The Lexus will be M12 x 1.5 wheel nut thread regardless of wheel fitment. Tricky bit is finding a M12 x 1.5 that fits down the Maserati slim will nut holes. The 21mm head original nut won’t fit, so maybe a 19 or 17mm head nut might be required .

  8. Would love to make the meeting, but I have not really been making plans past a few days as my health has been so up and down since virtually the start of the year. Means being a bit more spontaneous than I usually am. So, may be closer to the time all being well I could make it. On a complete aside this might bring a smile to faces.   10. When the comparison sites first appeared, I found myself hunting through all those small print pdf files to establish what, exactly, I'd be covered for. What I found was that the cover being offered on the comparison site was less comprehensive that the insurer's own direct website. Basically, to look competitive and appear in the top results, something had to give. Most people don't read the small print so they got away with it. I have no idea whether they operate in the same (underhand) way now but I have better things to do with my time than read all the small print so I no longer use the comparison sites. Maybe I'm losing out; maybe the companies behave more ethically these days; but then again, maybe pigs really do fly!

  13. Work on the house has progressed massively, stairs and kitchen is in. New master bed room suite looks amazing, and we might even have completion date soon :). We also ended up wasting some money on something totally unnecessary but so much fun for the garden :)

  14. Wrapping the dash and window switch panels has been done many times over the years, it’s all down to personal preference. For me I like the "classic" dark wood look, yet others like a more modern carbon fibre look.

  16. First time I have driven the SC and XK on back to back days. If I had to sum up the comparison with just one word to describe each car they would be; SC Silky XK Brutish I like both for the clear difference in driving experience.

  20. ….good day / evening to you all, again ! 🙄 Malcolm, thank you for your 5th message to me - so where are the other 1095 LS 400’s ?………getting nervous, are we - hence your message? latest score now: Malcolm 3.100 contribution’s - Anthony 7 !! every forum I have read the member’s alway’s ask for more photo’s on a topic - often with little result! ☹️ ok, so here are some more pic’s covering the centre flight deck display on my Lexus LS 400……Concorde? - get ‘outta here…..( it was 100% analogue - no digital display’s ! ). ….factoid - 1987: one of the very first touch sensitive colour display screen’s that control Navigation, Time, 6 CD, FM / LW, Cassette and HVAC ( heating, ventilation and air conditioning ) ! note the ‘dual’ key that, when, selected really does deliver different temperature’s to front / rear driver and passenger side’s ! the ‘front screen’ key is not a Ford type glass element, just blown air……23.5 year’s later - every comms display stlll work’s ! (😲)….just like a Mercedes-Benz W140 / 220, BMW 7 Series, Audi A8 and Jaguar XJ 🤭 ! ! Anthony……stay with me - there will be more to follow….🥱🫣😃

  22. Something to be said for the KISS approach? Seems like overkill, to have to have £300 worth (‘worth’?) of gizmos just to tell you tyres -which are meant to stay inflated,need attention. Surely easier to check manually every so often?

I thought it was agreed straightaway when I purchased the policy however I now find I still need to upload photos of the car for confirmation and I won’t get the car back until tomorrow as it is having it’s airbag done. So provisionally the value is £17000 with an excess of £700. I realistically think the car is worth £15000 but it’s always down to what someone will pay. It’s one previous owner and now done 10,000 miles. I bought it 2 1/2 years ago at 7,600 miles for £12600 which at the time people thought it was at least £3000 under priced and I had a valuation of up to £19000. I’ve spent another probably £6000 on it but know that doesn’t really add much value. if ever it was written off or something else I don’t really expect to get it’s true value but the market value is a joke.

The cat sat next to the dog and lifted its right paw. extended his big claws as if to say " Come near me and you will get this". The dog went round the other side of the table.   27. Fair points. However, even now the Lexus dealers seem to struggle with diagnosing issues with the LC (due to its rarity). Imagine if a dealer has to do 10 hrs diagnosis whilst you’re paying the bill outside of warranty. Let’s take the gearbox as an example. It’s used in just the LC. Compare that to a ZF box.. if you have an issue with a ZF box, the chances are the issue will be very common and there’ll be lots of indies that can work on it. The LC gearbox on the other hand…….. The LC500 is my third Lexus. I’d put it’s build quality last. I think the rarity of the LC500 may make it an expensive long termer.

  28. After following the above instructions, big shout out to @SPC, it works! I also found that you don't actually need to do any modifications to the DSU, only the ECM. It just means for who ever tries to attempt this, it's one less step. The setup I have working is with a Radar and DSU that are both Japan spec, even though my car is EU spec. I am also using a newer DSU than the one which is spec'd for the car. I am using Part No. 88150-52053 instead of 88150-52052 (which I never could find anywhere). This confirms that, you can use a Radar and DSU which is a different spec from the rest of your car, the important thing is to keep the DSU and Radar the same region. This should be helpful for anyone who is trying to get parts but can't find them in their same region. I have found some of these parts are much cheaper in the US. I will keep testing it and report back if there are any issues or DTC's that come up, but so far it's been clean. I am also fairly certain that I need to get the radar re-calibrated/re-aimed, even though it seems to be working without it for now. I am also planning to do a full write up for whoever want's to attempt this in the future.

  31. Until you can get the new security canbus and software sorted, it is cheaper to buy a crooklock for the steering wheel than lose your car. I use mine every time I park anywhere outside my home garage. Annoying to have to keep fitting, and yes thieves can get through some of the locks - just takes them more time, and they are likely to look for easier pickings elsewhere.

Called up Adrian Flux as someone I was involved in an accident with gave me a false insurance company... searched the DB for £10 , found that he was actually insured with yourselves, and it was a total nightmare to find the contact info, then the person on the phone was awfully rude to me.   35. The last 7 weeks have been a complete nightmare. Forensics we're finally done and I was allowed to collect my belongings from the pound, but wasn't allowed to see the car. Only thing they took was my dashcam. The car was moved on Monday just gone (22 April) to the repair place, and I was finally able to see my car. There is no damage, and wires have been pulled in the boot and carpets in front under the dash. She drives too which surprised me. So now I wait for a few scratches to be repaired, wiring put back, then I'll get my car back probably in about 2 weeks or so. Insurance sent my documents and keys back, reinstated insurance and I've re-taxed the car.

Wheel alignment / tracking is often influenced by the state of the roads you’re driving on and that impact on your tyres, steering set-up whatever ……. and at the tiny mileage covered you might not even see undue tyre wear either …. Yet …. Might be the service guys are recommending as they’re just touting for business whatever It used to be that if there was nowt wrong then the checking wasn’t charged for …… you’d get a printout showing green and red indicators and green at the final printout when all adjusted …….. Often the rear adjustments are just a little unnecessary ( over the top ) as that won’t affect your steering …….. On this basis you might want to have it checked out at an independent tyre place that does tracking etc AND not charge if there’s nowt to be adjusted ! You’ll see by the printouts I’ve mentioned The air con re-charge …… seems OTT to my mind too 🤔 Good luck ! Malc

  37. That's the thing about wrapping. It is easily removed with a hot air gun and you would never have known it was there. I always wanted to preserve the originally of my car so every thing I have done is easily reversed except for the reversing sensors excuse the pun. I appreciate a lot of people want to keep their cars standard. and that's great. Personally I think it will only ever be a classic until when there are not that many left on the road. The truth is most of my older friends are into British classics and younger ones into fast BMW;s etc. The SC does nothing for them and they would never buy one. I love mine but confess if I hadn't bought an RX first the SC would never have been on my radar either. Thankfully I did and think it is a wonderful car that is way under looked and under rated like a lot of Lexus models like the IS and F versions.

  38. Each to their own I suppose, but imo the sc will be a true classic one day, appreciate what it is and and the unquestionable quality, I don't think anyone would recover the dash on a Bentley let's say, and to me the sc finish is not far off that standard, just my opinion of course 😉

  39. Yes will definitely do a guide or a video. Just waiting for the weather to be more conducive. Its just been so cold lately. I seem to have figured out how to do it in theory at least. When i actually go to do it, as is often the case, new hurdles show up. This engine just seems so DIY friendly that im tempted to keep it forever.

  40. Last Autumn we did Madrid and while there got a rail card to visit some great places nearby. I would highly recommend a visit. Avila, Segovia, Toledo, Escorial, Aranjuez. 70€ for a travel pass for the week covers all of it.

  43. Unless, of course it fails on a dark and rainy night in the middle of nowhere. I've been an LS owner (400 and 460) for 27 years now and the best piece of advice I can give is to get your machine serviced regularly and on time. They are magnificent machines but you have to play your part.

  44. Yeah i did a lot of research on this and sounds like its normal. The ECU deliberately decides to run the engine lean to generate more heat faster. This made no sense to me as i always thought more fuel=more energy and hence more heat. But apparently that is not the case. A lean mixture generates more heat because there is a more complete burning of fuel taking place vs a rich mixture where relatively speaking more fuel is wasted also in a rich mixture the unburnt fuel conducts some of the heat away. So i guess it makes sense that under certain situations where power demand is low e.g in traffic and when the engine wants to warm up fast that the ecu decides to run it lean. Strangely i was in the same situation today but it didn't do it and everything was smooth as always. Sometime in the next few weeks I'll still clean the throttle body, MAF sensor and replace the PCV valve just for good measure. Its also strange that cars these days dont come with replaceable fuel filters. Ive seen videos of people opening up the pump assembly to get at these "lifetime" filters and what comes out is nasty.

  45. I'm not attempting to start a row here and I generally agree with the comments in this thread but I'd argue that 2 Grandchildren and two adult spaces do make it a 'Family' car. We've become used to huge cars that we drag around mostly with just a driver on-board especially when going to and from work. I realise the boot isn't huge but 90% + of the time I use the UX it's more than adequate. I've sat in the back, with a Grandchild in one of these huge modern safety seats, and I had no issue with leg or head room and I'm just over 6 feet tall. I moved from an NX to the UX for the very reason that I couldn't justify having such a large but wonderful vehicle that was going to sit around most of the day. Even though there is a view on this site that the UX isn't a 'real' Lexus I think they are an excellent car with many benefits in this modern and expensive motoring age.

  46. I wouldnt worry at all I have exactly the same experience. More apparant when the Engine switches to EV mode. Mines on approx 55k cleaned the MAF sensor, new air filter, spark plugs, throttle body cleaned. Just to give you reassurance Iv seen a Camry Hybrid on 520,000 km in Dubai before now very reassuring. Lexus is more than capable of handling big miles if maintained that should put your mind at ease. The rust in the UK will likely rot it before the engine gives up.

  47. Hi John, No you can’t switch it off, it’s an inherent feature of a hybrid and how they work, the car will work out what it needs to do and when so you will find the ICE will stop and start at various times, not just when you stop at the traffic lights😀 hope that helps Kev

Fortunate enough to have a Dealer prepared to sell a showroom car which exactly met spec and colour we were looking for and therefore avoided the 3 month wait of a factory order. Early days yet and haven’t driven many miles but so far delighted with the car.

  49. That's my RX450h+ one month old now and 665 miles on the clock. First refuel today with just under quarter of a tank indicated. Ignoring electricity charging consumption was over 82mpg but with the cost of charging (at off peak rate) converted to what that equates to in petrol the overall result is in excess of 62mpg. As expected its down on what I was achieving from my previous NX450h+ (72mpg) but better than I had thought so very pleased.
