  1. The hub on the IS350 is different. Unless you are going to replace the hub too the stock 17" wheels won't clear. The clearance is fine as far as the diameter goes but offset is an issue. 17 wheels with a more aggressive offset will clear. And I know all of this as I too found the brakes on the IS250 inadequate!
  2. It is normal for the engine to kick in when starting in cold weather. That car has probably been sitting there for a while.
  3. I use Shell V Power for the only purpose that it gets rid of this annoying rattle; at-least on my car.
  4. 78 Works in Japan is the original manufacturer of pretty much all after market tail lights for the 2nd Generation IS and the led blinkers are orange. The US versions are replicas of 78 and the blinkers (if led) are red.
  5. I think you are probably not even skidding enough for traction control to kick in. Have you noticed the light come on or experienced loss of power? Probably not! If it's really bothering you, put some weight in the boot and it will stop.
  6. Hello people, It's been 2.5 years since I greased all calipers using Pagid Ceratec. The brakes have started burning lately and I inspected the car today expecting the slider pins to be seized. I was pleased to see that the pins were free like they had been lubricated yesterday. The pistons in the calipers however seem very pitted and are probably not retracting properly. (I couldn't push the caliper back with my hands) I am probably going to need new calipers or the existing ones will need to be rebuilt. It will be more expensive then just replacing a slider pin but I was actually quite pleased that the pins had not seized. I'm not very active on here these days but just thought I'd come over and spread the word. Maybe the calipers are not a bad design after all!! And for the record at the rear, I have one 'new and improved' caliper and the other one is the older design. The older design was actually moving more freely on the slide pin in comparison to the newer design. LOL The dealers and most mechanics use copper based grease which I believe is too harsh on the rubber seals.
  7. The projectors aren't too bad (Koito makes the best projectors out there and models like the ls430 and rx300 have received a lot of praise for their output.) The problem is the side bulb entry design of the headlights that makes the output dim in comparison to other cars on the road. If the lights are adjusted properly and by that I mean readjusted from factory default, then you have plenty of width and distance which can be seen if you drive on unlit roads at night but it really lacks output and foreground lighting is poor too. It used to bother me at first and I wanted to boost up to 55w too but I've just learnt to live with it.
  8. Option 3 - The car is fastest in 'D' in normal mode as far as 0-60 is concerned. There is plenty of information on this on the US forum. For some reason, the car shifts up at a lower rpm in ECT mode. The pedals are laggy so there is no point in using them.
  9. Beauty is subjective so different people will have a different opinion about this. I for one find the aggressive styling on the new Lexus models a bit over the top. I agree that the NX is probably the worst looking of the lot. If I ever buy a car from this line up it will be the prefacelift 4GS which I think looks decent. I much prefer the exterior styling of the new Mercs but believe they have some catching up to do as far as interiors are concerned.
  10. I wonder how much longer this angry birds theme with the front of the cars will last. :eerrrmm:
  11. It probably is an oxygen sensor; the code will confirm. Happened on mine recently too.
  12. The IS has had this since 10 years. Poor Journalism..
  13. Because in the T's&C's you're required to notify your insurer of every such incident & if you don't then should you have another incident which you need to claim for & they become aware of the 1st your claim will be rejected as you have broken the contract Also in the event you need to litigate you'll need your insurers backing + no solicitor will act for you if you don't notify them Ok just to be clear, I was only saying not to go 'through' them as in let them handle it. They certainly have to be notified, I believe it is an offence to not do so. When I got hit, I rang up my insurance company first and told them what had happened. They offered me a corsa and offered to book the car in at their approved garage for immediate repair. I refused and went to Lexus who put me in touch with this company. They gave me a BMW 3 series as a courtesy car and my car was repaired at the dealer.
  14. I don't see why you have to go through your insurance company. The incident has witnesses, there will be a police report too so the law is pretty much on your side. I was in a similar situation once and went to my local Lexus dealer who put me in touch with a company called 'Accident Exchange'. They dealt with the matter very swiftly and gave me a reasonable courtesy car. Maybe try them or pop into your local dealer for advice?
  15. 2 different sizes depending on if they are solid or vented.
  16. There is no point in air drying this as the mechanism is easily accessible. You should open the key, remove the battery and use a hair dryer on it. Put it back together and then see if it works.
  17. If you have the climate control on 'Auto', the air con should work immediately. In winters it kicks in late when the engine is warmer.
  18. Those wheels are not OEM. Rubbing or not rubbing will depend on the wheel offset which the ad doesn't specify. 255 tyres at the front will definitely rub though. The IS250 can't take a tyre wider than 225 at the front without rubbing.
  19. I disconnected the intake tubing right after the air flow sensor and before the throttle body as show in this video. I had the car around 2.5 RPM when I did this initially but then dropped it to 1.5 as I got confident that the engine did not mind the little drink and the fact that I was spraying in very small quantities. I am not sure about lights on the dash as mine were on already due to a failed oxygen sensor. One thing to bear in mind is that the car dies on low rpm without the air flow sensor connected so every thing needs to be connected before easing off the accelerator. I have driven 50 miles since and no issues so far. I will probably do it again some other time. Rain interrupted so I didn't get a chance to do it for long.
  20. Mine is 84K. I also did water decarbonization yesterday. Something I've been reading into and wanted to do for a long time. Sprayed about half a liter of water into the engine via the air intake using a spray bottle. I did this before I did the oxygen sensors and the result was quite dramatic. Not only did the engine become a lot more quiet, the acceleration felt very smooth and linear. The oxygen sensors were a cherry on top. Overall, It has made a significant difference to the way the car sounds and drives.
  21. Thank you so much for both your guides. I replaced both sensors today. I've got gorilla hands so it took me quite a while to do this but the sense of achievement is great.
  22. It's common courtesy, even if something doesn't appeal to you there is no need to be unpleasant about it. I haven't read this thread in its entirety but there's too much negativity coming from some of you. Yes it is an open forum and you all are entitled to your own opinions but be nice people. Be nice. It's not what you say. It's the way you say it. It's all about euphemism. Anyhow, lets try and get back on topic. I am keen to see the finished product.
  23. Maybe they are not allowed access. Toyota/Lexus both use techstream for diagnostics so the equipment is the same. It could be that their software doesn't let them proceed if it detects that a Lexus Vehicle has been connected instead of a Toyota one. :iraqi-info-minister:
  24. Accountant here. If I was you I would take the company car route as you are not interested in keeping car for long: - You can claim 50% VAT on all the CH invoices. - You can also claim VAT on any service/repair costs. - You can claim VAT on business mileage (fuel scale charges) All above assuming you are not on the flat rate VAT scheme. The rental for the car will reduce your profit, hence less CT to pay. I think the BIK Value of the car should be around 5.5K. Ask your Accountant to make your salary nil if you are already on the payroll. Take dividends instead. In month 12 the accountant should give you the difference between your p11d BIK and your personal allowance (or upper NI threshold) as a salary. This will further reduce your CT liability as it will be a deduction for the company. Happy days!
  25. Hi agent_dess, Please post the link for the sensors. Thanks
