  1. I've had Pagid fitted. Really top pads. The young lad in the garage who fitted them said the easiest he has ever done. Bolt out, swing up, pads in, bolt up. Job done. I got all four wheel pads at Euro Car Parts for about £55. Took 4-5 days as a special order. Order on-line for 30-35% discount. Free postage. Garage charged about £60 to fit. Lovely feel and grip after bedding in.
  2. Yours sounds pretty bad. However, I did an oil change, and started the car up in the air to check for leaks. All OK. Lowered the car and the suspension had dropped right down. Total panic as it was OK before, totally normal. Decided to drive it. At this stage it came up. After about a mile, totally normal. If you can drive it, maybe try doing so and see what happens. Mine 'sorted itself out' a year ago and has been perfect since. The driving cured it. Maybe when it moves, the computer says time to 'pump up'.
  3. These look good https://www.blackcircles.com/catalogue/goodyear/efficientgrip-performance/225/60/R16/W/102/f?tyre=33565971
  4. On mats I have also used old fashioned Swarfega. We had car mats that were covered in lots of brown/black diesel grease after a forced stop in a lorry car park. In the bath. Vacuum well. Swarfega on the grease, with a nail brush. Amazing how it lifts it out. Then 1001 carpet cleaner next. (from a £1 shop?), rubbed in well. Big wash in fresh water in the bath and a drain. On to the washing line in the direct sun. One day later, immaculate dry car mats smelling wonderful. Total cost.......about 75p.
  5. Not much to say really. £3,000 for a small repair shows how crazy the modern car world is.
  6. Because wheels should be functional and contain understated elegance. Just look at most SAABs.
  7. The plastic trays also upset me. Why make a simple oil change difficult? My old W124 Mercedes had an under tray with a little slot/ aperture carved out for the sump nut. So easy. The oil filter was on the 'top' of the engine. Total time for an oil change ......a leisurely 30 mins.
  8. Bought 4 wheels sets of Pagid for my 2002 LS430 and they are fantastic. Good feel, bite, and silent. £55.94p (now) with online discount. The young lad who fitted them at Formula One said they were the easiest fitting he has ever done on disc pads.
  9. A cheap option might be to put a bottle of fuel cleaner in the next tank-full. Might clean some gunge out.
  10. Mine does not work in and out. I'm hoping to crank it out a bit with a spanner so that I have more leg room.
  11. Is the earth the same on a 430, and where is it? My car is a bit insensitive to locking on stations. Suffolk is bad for reception, but a £1,800 radio should do better.
  12. A very good report. Is it possible to remove the steering column shroud and then see the in/out thread, and give it enough turns with a spanner to pull it out about 2 inches. That would solve everything for me.
  13. Did you notice a significant improvement after the new plugs were fitted? In the old days when plugs were replaced each year, one often noticed a bit of a pick up after a plug change. As a bit old school I often worry about 60k+ mile plug changes, although I know that they are much better these days.
  14. Bought Pagid pads front and backs for my 430 from EuroCarParts for £57 the lot. After about 2-300 miles 'bedding in' they feel great. Lots for progression and bit. Perfect.
  15. Are Avons good. They are used on Rolls Royces but seem in recent years to be a mid-range brand. Do you last? There is no doubt that the new classification has forced competition in the industry to up its game. It is interesting to see how some older, very good tyres, like Goodyear NCTs are now rated as noisy and not fuel efficient. Information and testing really do work to improve products.
  16. What is nice, is they have not slipped. At Mercedes in the mid-90s the CEO (who had been in America) decided the cars were 'too well made', and stripped out a billion worth of cost from them. Mercedes then started to rust, electrical problems etc etc, and went from 2-3 in the JD power survey to 2-3 from the bottom. It took till 2006 until the value and engineering were put back, but much of the damage was done.
  17. I've been very impressed by the Duracell 5 year batteries from Europarts. Order at the weekend on-line to get the discount, and free delivery too.
  18. It is probably amazing but that mauve and black interior really should be illegal, and that grill just scares young children and old men.
  19. Given Lexus labour charges at £170ish per hour, it would be really useful if this site could set up a category of 'good garages members have used and recommend', maybe by geographical area.
  20. My last oil was Asda's and the spec was absolutely top notch. Probably made by Comma oil.
  21. It is often hard to walk away, but not as hard as having made the purchase and then sitting at home feeling a bit iffy about the whole thing. If your stomach said walk, it is a 99.7% chance that walking is the best thing. When you see the correct car, your stomach will say 'I think I am lucky to get this one'.
