my choice today is Hotel California by the Eagles .... chilled song with lovely calming scenery in the video, makes you think of the long awaited Summer

Watched the "Sky Arts 2 hour programme last night of the Eagles at the Forum in 2018. What a group - fantastic after a fourteen year lapse in their history.

Stupendous.

I thought I saw Beniamino Gigli last week !!

Tut tut, name dropping, John?

Not being an Opera buff I'd not heard the name but having goo'd it he really was highly thought of.  Listened to his rendition of Nessun Dorma. Very good!

In my formative employment years Stu, whilst working for one of the Unilever Companies on Merseyside, I was mentored by an elderly gentleman who knew quite a lot about matters that seemed to interest only, him, Tommy. He was knowledgeable about the Best;Football Teams in the World, Sports Writers, such as Neville Cardus, Cars manufactured by British Motor Corporation and LJK Setright, you get the picture. He couldn`t decide who was the best Tenor, Caruso or Gigli  and he asked for my view. I was still wet behind the ears and probably thought that they were two full backs playing for Real Madrid ! Still Tommy went on to educate me about many things. Music, Humour and the art of not being afraid of "being Johnny out of step"

I often listen to both Caruso and Gigli in my GS and wonder why Tommy needed to decide who was best ?

They were both the best of their time. And they remain so, a real pleasure to listen to them.

Oh, and I still no nowt about Opera !

Fascinating John, who cannot but applaud "the pursuit of excellence"? Where did those aspirations go, into the swamp of mediocrity? As to those operatic titans, including Callas, imagine what they would sound like with today's modern recording technology?

A chum asked me to transcribe the bass part of this for him (it's not going to take too long!). Not my usual fare but good enough to be added to my YouTube favourites:
