Lexus Link+ upgrade to MyToyota

Recommended Posts

Tried to start the above app (on iPhone) and it says  "New version available - An update to MyToyota is required to continue".  Clicking on the Update button takes you to MyToyota app in the app store.

Anybody else ?

What might be related was that I had to change my lexus website password yesterday to log the car back in (it had the cannot sync profile message of doom again).  So perhaps they rolled out a new version badly.

I can't believe they would want Lexus owners to use the Toyota app (even if the backend is the same) so assume its a glitch.

I received an update avaliable request this morning (android).  Accepted and all appeared to work fine after installation.  App started OK.  No idea what the update was for though!

Hi Paul,

A check please did the ‘upgrade’ request take you to the Lexus link + app or the Toyota app?  My attempt did the latter and the Toyota app won’t link to my NX.

thanks

Pete

You should have an update for the Lexus Link app in your App Store. Update using that version and everything should work. Looks like their app developers pushed the wrong button.

My upgrade message said you need to update "MyToyota" and when I clicked the link it went to the MyToyota app in the app store.  I did not download it.  Tried rebooting phone , but made no difference

Deleted the app and reinstalled/re setup and now looks OK again.

Yet another example of where Lexus really doesn't do digital OR treat customers with respect.  Completely disabling an App until an update is done is just not the right way to do things, not sending an email advising an update needed is not the way to do things and as others have posted, linking to the wrong App to load for an update and seemingly no one at planet Lexus actually checking the functionality is not the way to do things.

Lexus had a reputation as a premium brand, not now.

I think in the maps page. the current vehicle location is now shown.  I don't think that was the case before?

Yes the key thing for apple users, is not to click on the update button on the LexusLink + app, but to open up the App Store, and upgrade the app from there. How did this ever get past testing…..

This is exactly what I did too.

because they never tested it.  They don't do alpha testing to any depth relying on throwing junk out to customers and let us find the bugs for them.

Nothing new there. I was around when Microsoft were developing MSDOS and Windows from SmallTalk. Exactly the same in those early days before they discovered Betatesting. Our problem is that Lexus UK are doing their own mickeymouse development and not relying upon what has already been done and tested in the USA.

i cannot see any difference from previous version.

In Lexus defence, when they are writing software for the cars they are in control of ecosystem. When it comes to phone apps there are many different types of phone, operating system, versions, drivers etc. They can’t test every combination as they are not in control of all hardware and software needed to make it work.

(but to test one would be a start).
