An old topic brought to life as ive been doing my homework recently .If you look through you're owners manual, 5w-30 is the best for the car. Ive gone for Castrol GTX.

:driving:

I am buying at the moment for my next service, and Castrol GTX is a lot cheaper then Mobil 1, about £10 squid cheaper.

So what do you reckon 5W30 or 10W40??

it is recommended 5W30 in my manual and my dealer use Castrol GTX 5W30 :)

Yep, and as my handbook suggests it, thats what i've gone for. If you're lucky you can get a free sports hat with the 4.5 L bottles!!

Mines in for a service tonight......... :crybaby:

Fingers crossed all is good! :D

:whistling: Hello everyone, i would just like to point out the following on which Oil to use.

1. The manual states 5W 30 is good for temps up to -29 & approx 10 oC.

2. 10W 40 is not stated in the manual, however the temp ranges would be between 10W 30 & 15W 40.

Therefore for the oil 10W 40 the temp range would be roughly between -12 & 38oC.

In the summer use 10W 40

In the winter use 5W 30.

YOU ARE ALL RIGHT, ITS PREFERENCE!

My Uncle who's a mechanic goes by this rule. I also have a Vauxhall Cavaliar 2.0 CDI that has done 300,000 miles on the same engine, only internal part changed was the camshaft. Car has lasted due to the regular oil changes every 6,000 miles.

I'm also doing the same for my Lexus. Leave it to my Uncle, cost is only the parts.
